In a world filled with great social war, we have been surrounded by a vast amount of negative influ-ence: religion vs. religion, race vs, race, rich, vs. poor, popular vs. non-popular, as well as many more negative aspects of life. Labels have been a powerful hindrance to unity. In a nation that is falling apart, we need people of the future who will come together and work for a common good; it begins with US. With the help of friends and school and community leaders, a core groups of students are developing the E.M.B.A.R.K. (Enlightening Many to Bring About Respect and Kindness) Movement which is

being implemented in Pelham High School and Telfair County High School. Several plans are being made for services, events, and opportunities to bring the communities together, but E.M.B.A.R.K. also largely promotes service in even the smallest of ways. During lunch at PHS, students have accepted the challenge to sit with new people, invite lonely outsiders into groups, and create greater diversity as opposed to segregation and clique formations. E.M.B.A.R.K. encourages unity, student involve-ment, genuine support, kindness, respect and love for everyone. Students who are more involved have more support from peers and are happier and more motivated as well as increasingly and significantly more successful in academic achievements. Engaging in the motives of E.M.B.A.R.K., along with in-creasing the quality of communities can greatly impact our educational experience as well as students state-wide. We need support; we need involvement; we need help; we need each other.—L.Watts

Introducing… New PHS Teacher Mrs. McKenzie

Pelham City High School is buzzing with new teachers this year. One of these new teachers is Mrs. McKenzie who teaches Early Childcare Education. She attended college at Valdosta State, Albany State, and Grand Canyon University. She has a B.S. in Politi-cal Science, Elementary Certification, and a Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction. Mrs. McKenzie says, “I think I’m adjusting well to PHS. I love the feeling of being a part of a family.” She is focusing on the future of her students by providing an out-standing education that will help them with their future career. She says, “I love the fact that my students will leave my pathway with experience that will help them in their future career goals.” Mrs. McKenzie

is dedicated to ensuring an outstanding education for her students but is also dedicated to her family at home. She has been mar-ried to her husband, Bryan, for 18 years this November. She has two children, Kaitlyn and Bryna. Kaitlyn is 15 and is a sopho-more at PHS, and Bryna is 8 and is in the third grade at PES. Keep up the outstanding work, Mrs. McKenzie; we are excited to have you at PHS.

FBLA, FCCLA, and FFA teamed together and had a fun-filled membership drive after school last Wednesday. The students enjoyed cooling off after school, and the weather was perfect for the event. Club sponsors, Mrs. McKenzie, Miss Wynn, Mrs. Moore, and Mr. Sealy, were pleased with the first ever F2O event and look forward to more activities during the school year.
