The project titled To Study the Preference for Enterprise ProductData Management Software in select Industrial Area.forPelf Infotech

Pvt. Ltd. Pune. Major Focus of project was to find out the preferences forEPDM software in select industrial area.

The project report is prepared by conducting a survey through a structuredquestionnaire through visiting companies within the periphery of Pune and Ihave to study their preferences towards EPDM software.

The survey was conducted with sample size of 143 and the data collected wasprimary data on which the analysis was made accordingly with the hope thatit would make a value addition about the Pelf Infotech Pvt. Ltd. And towardsmy knowledge as a student of MBA.

The information is collected with the help of questionnaire which areprepared by me on the basis of possibility that it would cover the importantdetails about the response of the companies. The survey was done throughquestionnaire and the facts and findings which came out after completing thestudy revealed that the views differ from question to question and person to

person but the fact after summing up the data was that most of the companiesdont use Product data Management Software for their Product Data

management which should be taken into consideration by Pelf Infotech Pvt.

Starting around the mid-1970s, as computer aided design systemsbegan to provide more capability than just an ability to reproduce

manual drafting with electronic drafting, the cost benefit for companiesto switch to CAD became apparent. The benefit of CAD systems overmanual drafting are the capabilities one often takes for granted fromcomputer systems today; automated generation of Bill of Material, autolayout in integrated circuits, interference checking, and many others.Eventually CAD provided the designer with the ability to performengineering calculations. During this transition, calculations were still

performed either by hand or by those individuals that could runcomputer programs. CAD was a revolutionary change in the engineeringindustry, where draftsmen, designers and engineering roles begin tomerge. It did not eliminate departments, as much as it mergeddepartments and empowered draftsman, designers and engineers. CADis just another example of the pervasive effect computers werebeginning to have on industry.

Current computer-aided design software packages range from2D vector-based drafting systems to 3D solid and surface modelers.Modern CAD packages can also frequently allow rotations in threedimensions, allowing viewing of a designed object from any desiredangle, even from the inside looking out. Some CAD software is capableof dynamic mathematical modeling, in which case it may be marketed asCADD.

CAD is used in the design of tools and machinery and in thedrafting and design of all types of buildings, from small residential types(houses) to the largest commercial and industrial structures (hospitalsand factories).

CAD is mainly used for detailed engineering of 3D models and/or2D drawings of physical components, but it is also used throughout the

engineering process from conceptual design and layout of products,through strength and dynamic analysis of assemblies to definition ofmanufacturing methods of components. It can also be used to designobjects. Furthermore many CAD applications now offer advancedrendering and animation capabilities so engineers can better visualizetheir product designs.4D BIM is a type of virtual constructionengineering simulation incorporating time or schedule related

information for project management.CAD has become an especially important technology within the

scope of computer-aided technologies, with benefits such as lowerproduct development costs and a greatly shortened design cycle. CADenables designers to layout and develops work on screen, print it out andsave it for future editing, saving time on their drawings.

MEANING OF RESEARCH

Research has been defined by various authors in different ways. It alwaysbegins with a question or a problem. Its purpose is to find answers toquestions through the application systematic and scientific methods. Thus,research is the systematic approach towards purposeful investigation. Thisneeds formulating a hypothesis, collection of data on relevant variables,analyzing and interpreting the results and reaching conclusion either in theform of solution or certain generalizations.

RESEARCH DESIGN

A research project conducted scientifically has a specific framework ofresearch from the problems identification to the presentation of the researchreport. This research framework is known as the research design. The studyundertaken is Descriptive in nature, as the objectives were clearly mentionedwhen the study was conducted. Once the research problem is formulated and the research design isdetermined, the next task is data collection. Data can be classified into twocategoriesPrimary and Secondary.

PRIMARY DATA

Primary data is one which is collected by the investigator himself for thepurpose of a specific inquiry or study. A repetitive refining of points a qualitative & effective questionnaire wasevolved which included both closed & open ended questions. The researchwas carried out through surey method with the help of a questionnaire

Convenience Sampling

It is a sampling method in which units are selected based on easyaccess/availability. Convenient sampling is a type of non-probabilitysampling which involves the sample being drawn from that part of the

population which is close to hand. For the successful accomplishment of thisresearch convenience sampling has been selected.

The study was done in various regions in Pune. The regions covered wereRanjangaon, Sanaswadi, Wagholi, Shirur, Hadapsar, Ambegaon, Nahre,Pirangut, Katraj, Bhosri, and PCMC area.

This research is descriptive research done in and around Pune.

Primary data:o The primary data is the data collected for the first time and thus

happened to be of original character. Primary data include theinformation collected from the people through discussion. Thedata used for study is acquired and collected by havinginteraction with the people in Ranjangaon, Sanaswadi, Narhe,Pirangut, Bhosari, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Shivane and Hadapsarareas in Pune city.

Secondary data:

o The secondary data on the other hand are those which havealready been collected by someone else and which have already

been passed through the statistical processes. The information wegot from the websites of the Pelf InfoTech Pvt. Ltd.

Research Design:

o A research project conducted scientifically has a specificframework of research from the problem identification to the

presentation of the research report. This framework ofconducting research is known as research design.

o A research design is simply the framework or plan for a study

that is used as a guide in collecting & analyzing the data it is ablue print that is followed in completing study.

Sampling:

o Sampling is essential technique of behavioral research; theresearch work cant be undertaken without use of sampling. The

study of all people in Pune city is not possible & it is alsoimpracticable. The practical limitationcost, time & otherfactors which are usually operative in the situation, stand in theway of studying the people in Pune city.

Method:o A questionnaire is a method of obtaining specific information

about a defined problem so that the data, after analyzing &interpretation, results in a better appreciation of the problem. Aquestionnaire form which has to be completed by respondent, forthis project report I collect the answers of the questions throughsurvey method.

FINDINGS

1. I visited 200+ companies and found that about 74% of the Usedesigning software.

2. By observations it seems that from above 74% of companies thatProduct data management software is not used by many of thecompanies around Pune. There is only 38% companies useEPDM.

3. About 58% of the companies dontuse any Software for Datamanagement. They are managing their product data on local server orthe same device on which they are designing product.

4. Its also seen that 4% companies are not aware about the Enterprise

Product Data Management Software.

LIMITATIONS

Time ConstraintThere was time constraint to this project. The project was to becompleted within 2 months.

Area Limitations

The study was limited to Pune District or around the Pune city.Hence the findings may differ from other parts of India where Ihave not visited.

Limited sources of data collection

Sources of data for collection of secondary data were limited. Thestudy is based on the primary data collected during research.

Unavailability of official data

Due to Companies norms and regulation some of the official dataabout the current software they using and number of employees

working in design team couldnt be made available. The figuresgiven are approximate figures.

Non-Respondent error

It is almost impossible to obtain data from each and everyrespondent covered in sample. There are always some respondentswho refuse to give information.

Busy respondentsMany times respondents were so busy that they didnt reply. Therewere biased replies also. As I was not given any identity proof bycompany some of the respondents didnt entertain me as they asked

to show identity proof.
