Peer Edit DayRequirements as a Peer Editor:

*You need to read through the following questions and answer YES or NO about the person’s paper you are editing.

*NOTE: ANY TIME YOU WRITE “NO,” you MUST comment in their paper.To get full credit for editing you must also write comments on the paper itself.

*Check your paper and make sure you have accurately complied with all requirements.

*TWO EDITORS will see each paper (portions of it—not the whole), as each will have a task to complete. See the separation of duties within the handout.

*Once you complete the tasks, sign next to “Editor ½ Duties.”

YOUR DUTIES AS AN EDITOR (of TWO papers)

 

As Peer Editor #1, (white sheet) your duties are to edit/analyze/revise (see the handout for further details):

1) Conventions (be thorough—comb through the essay for grammatical, as well as formatting errors)

2) Introduction Paragraph

3) Thesis Statement

4) Literary Analysis Paragraph #1—1st Lit. Element &Theme

As Peer Editor #2, (colored sheet) your duties are to edit/analyze/revise (see the handout for further details):

1) Author Biographical Paragraph

2) Plot Summary Paragraph

3) Literary Analysis Paragraph #2—2nd Lit. Element & Theme

4) Conclusion

5) Works Cited

NOTE: When you complete these, you will also fill in the reflection at the back of your Peer Edit Handout. It must be completed to get credit.

WHEN YOU FINISH, LET’S ORGANIZE!

 

*You must return the Peer Edit sheets to the correct partner. They will have TWO and should staple them to the front of their draft.

*Take a minute and let’s organize your colored folder, removing the lesser handouts (DO NOT throw away!!) to make way for the key ones.

Your folder should contain the following items (In chronological order):

1) Stamp Sheet (which I will add to as you edit)

2) Your Short Story with highlighted quotes

3) Your 2 Literary Criticism Database sources **with MLA citation included**

4) Your 1-2 Author Biographical Source(s)

5) Your Outline (this can be an initial draft with bullet points)

6) Your Peer Edited ROUGH DRAFT w/ 2 Editing Sheets

7) Room at the end for your FINAL COPY and WORKS CITED page

8) A www.turnitin.com Receipt

REMINDER: On FRIDAY, you will complete a brief SELF EDIT, so you must bring your ROUGH DRAFT back to class with you.

Open up a new document

MARGINS:• Begin by clicking “File” and then “Page Set Up”• This will lead you to a box with margins---should be 1” on

the left/right side, then (to make the spacing easier) top and bottom should be 0.5”

HEADER: • Begin by clicking “View” then “Header/Footer”• A dashed box will appear…click in the toolbar to RIGHT

justify it (look for the little box with lines on the right margin)

• Type in your last name and hit the space bar• Click the first button with the page and a # sign (this will

add to each page)

DON’T FORGET---DOUBLE SPACE and Times New Roman 12pt. Font; check your MLA Heading for correct formatting, as well
