6. Correspondence Letter to CEOs re: Progressing a Trails Network in the Peel Region A reply had been received from the Shire of Serpentine and Jarrahdale. The Shire confirmed it

currently supported the SJ Trails Incorporated group and would continue to provide a maintenance budget for the upkeep of trails within the Shire. However, no Shire budget had been allocated towards new trails in 2015/16 due to limited resources. Vanessa confirmed this was the case.

Although applications could be made for grants, the process itself would involve employing extra

staff, and the necessary financial resources attached to the process were not available.

Email from Trails WA An email from Linda Daniels, Executive Officer of Trails WA was tabled in which it was noted that, subsequent to discussions with the Chairman, Peter White, she would be willing to attend the July PTG meeting. This would be confirmed nearer to the date. 7. Strategic Plan updates 7.1 Trails Maps and Brochures Barry Small suggested that the walk from Balmoral POW Camp to Sullivans Rock should be re-

instated. This would have to be put to the Shire of Serpentine and Jarrahdale. It was agreed that Vanessa Slater and Preston Suijendorp would liaise on a draft letter to be sent to the Shire.

In addition, this letter would include a suggestion that the Peel Trail Group be involved in

supporting any future funding applications Action : Vanessa Slater and Preston Suijendorp

Moved: Barry Small Seconded : Preston Suijendorp 7.2 Strategic Plan Actions for 2015 The following points were raised: PTG Website and Trails Apps

It was suggested that a website manager be appointed.

To date, Ebony O’Brien at the DSR had been dealing with the website set-up

It was agreed it was important the website be kept up to date, and Tahnee Forbes volunteered to work on the website, with the IT person at Shire of Boddington, and come up with a proposal and recommendation on what needed to be done, but would have to obtain permission from her CEO first. If this was not possible, Cary Green suggested employing an outside consultant. Action: Tahnee Forbes

It was further suggested that PTG minutes/agendas/master plans etc. should be on the website rather than sending out these documents via email.

Lottery West and Community Chests could be approached for funding.

Create links and make the website a point of reference.

Trails should be linked to Top Trail’s webpage

Aims & Objectives of PTG

The purpose and direction of PTG was raised

It was noted that the aims and objectives of PTG are set out in the Future Direction Strategic Plan 2012-2017 and the 2015 Strategic Action Plan already distributed. These plans will be emailed with the Minutes for the benefit of the newer representatives.

Action: Marguerite Griffiths

It was noted that a marketing concept plan was part of PTG’s strategic plan and included actions for the website.

At the suggestion of Barry Small, it was agreed that this discussion and the points raised would have to be first discussed and agreed to by the Chair, and should therefore be raised at the July meeting for further discussion and agreement.

8. Other General Business

Shire of Waroona Tori said her Shire was waiting for quotes for constructing a viewing platform at Lake Preston Trail. MAPTO Kent reported that his office was currently putting together a walkable Art Trail for Mandurah which would cover the foreshore and CBD of Mandurah Canoe Trails Friends of Mandurah and Pinjarra Barry reported as follows:

A meeting was scheduled with DSR regarding a Dolphin Kayak Trail Guide

A grant has been received from Royalties for Regions for wheelchair access to Samphire Cove Nature Reserve

His organisation was going into partnership with Harvey River Restoration

Peel Paddling Carnival program being developed

Shire of Serpentine/Jarrahdale Vanessa reported as follows :

Whitby Falls Trail opening middle of May

Improvements had been made to bike trails – the Mundijong to Bishops Road trail had been extended by 1 km.

Vanessa reported on discussions on the role of DPaW regarding the closure/maintenance of trails; a letter had been sent to the Minister regarding these concerns. It was felt that the Mountain Bike Clubs’ requirements were being given preference over the Horse Riders’ needs. It should be noted that the environmental damage from mountain bikes was far worse than that of horse riders.

Dept of Sports and Recreation Cary suggested that

Jodie Doherty be asked to look into following up with establishing the Shire of Murray side of the Pinjarra to Mandurah dual use cycle path. (A Trail Development Plan was commissioned by the PTG in 1999)

PTG put in a submission to the WA Planning Commission’s Framework for Perth & Peel @ 3.5million in 2050 regarding PTG’s link in establishing/promoting trails. He believed it was important to ensure funding and promotion of trails.

Cary agreed to highlight relevant areas in the Planning Framework and provide some dot points for a submission to present at the next meeting.

Action: Cary Green
