PEARSON NEWS / PEARSON-NUUS HOËRSKOOL PEARSON HIGH SCHOOL ISSUE/UITGAWE: 16 2015 END-OF-YEAR / EINDE-VAN-JAAR On 24 November we said goodbye to Ms Wendy Rossouw and Mrs Jenny Hay at a special farewell function in the Deary Hall. On arrival at school, Ms Wendy Rossouw and Mrs Hay were met by a guard of honour consisting of the staff and prefects. Both ladies have decided to go on early retirement. We celebrated the fact that together they gave 60 years of loyal service to Pearson—Ms Rossouw starting in 1977 and Mrs Hay taking up the position of secretary from 1 April 1994. Tributes were paid to Mrs Hay by Mrs Bev Erickson, Vice-President of the Past Pearsonite Association, and Mrs Roux as a staff member. Tributes to Ms Rossouw were paid by Emma Finestone on behalf of the learners and Mr Les Bubb on behalf of the staff. Both were handed long service certificates to mark the occasion. A photo of Mrs Hay will be placed in the P.A. office foyer and her name and years of service displayed on a special board. A name board, which bears the name ‘Wendy Rossouw Foyer/ Wendy Rossouw Voorportaal’ in honour of Ms Rossouw’s service, has been hung in the foyer between the two quads. We wish them everything of the best for the future. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The proposed 2016 increase in fees was passed unanimously by the parents at the annual Budget Approval Meeting which was held on Thursday, 5 November. Parents would, by now, have received the Resolution to remain a fee-paying school, the Fee Structure and the Choice of Payment form that had to be returned to the school. Ek glo julle sal bly wees oor julle uitslae wanneer julle julle rapporte ontvang . I want to encourage especially those of you who did not fare so well, to tackle your work next year with earnest and renewed diligence. I wish you all a very blessed and happy Festive Season and a pleas- ant time of relaxing with your families. May the true message of Christmas – Peace on Earth – reign in our hearts.

The Pearson Cracker Jills, consisting primarily of our 2015 u/14A players, have exceeded expectations in the tough Senior Ladies’ B Section. They completed their nine Pool matches with 5 victories and are now into the Play-offs where they will contest with four other Ladies’ Teams for Positions 6-10. Players who have stood out for the Jills are: Cameron Bromfield, Tara de Koker and Nicole Chrysanthou. We believe they have a more than even chance of heading the lower B Section play-offs.

It has been an excellent run for the Pearson Cracker Jacks consisting primarily of our 2015 u/18A team joined by possible shadow players of the future. They also completed their eight Pool matches in the even tougher Senior Ladies’ A Section, emerging as victors 6 times. They will now play off against four other Ladies’ teams for medals and our chance of achieving this goal is extremely good. Carlyle Bromfield, Abby van Rensburg, Kristen Basson and Nastasha Nell have produced consist-ently top performances for the Jacks. Highlights to date include Carlyle Bromfield earning her 150th cap in our run-away victory against Framesby and both Mekayla Potgieter and Abby van Rensburg joining the prestigious 100 caps Club.

D6 COMMUNICATOR D6-KOMMUNIKATOR

We communicate with parents regarding information on all events, academic arrangements and correspondence, sport arrangements, results and congratulations, etc. on a daily basis on the D6 Communicator.

We would really like all our parents to be up to speed with the technological advances in communication and encourage all parents to make an effort to install the D6 Communicator in 2016.

J A A R B L A D Ek wil graag mej.

IMPORTANT REQUESTS: —> Every learner must buy a homework diary for 2016 and make daily use of it.

—> The general opinion is that some learners stay at home to easily when they are not really ill. With the new education system, it is difficult for them to then catch up on work that has been missed.

ART & DESIGN EXHIBITION - 29 to 31 October 2015

Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life - Pablo Picasso

The annual Art and Design Exhibition was held at Pearson High School

on Thursday, 30th October 2015. The exhibition showcased the works from

grade 10-12 learners that had been produced throughout the year. The dis-

plays varied from self-portraits to abstract art.

A noticeable aspect of the art on display was the ability of the learners

to communicate the highest values of life through means of a visual lan-

guage.

Because of how the exhibition was installed, the meaning behind each dis-

play was made clear and it provided visitors with the op-

portunity to analyse each piece according to the theme

that it had been placed under.

Overall, the evening was a resounding success. The work

produced by the learners was of an exceptional quality.

Our artists definitely made their school proud.

REMEMBRANCE DAY / HERDENKINGSDAG - 6 November 2015

‘Lest we forget’

This year our Remembrance Day Ceremony was held on 6 November on the Strydom Field.

It was a poignant ceremony attended by representatives from the Military, Sapper’s Associaton and relatives of ex-Pearsonites.
