Investiture Ceremony & Magazine Release:- th The special assembly of 13 July, 2016 at Unity College was conducted to adorn the newly elected council of students with badges and sashes. Principal Mr. Francis Castelino administered the oath of office to the incumbents. Then, they were handed over the flags and coveted badges. The Principal wished them success in all their endeavors. He exhorted them to be self-disciplined and to work as a team. On the same occasion, the College Magazine 2015-16 was released by the Principal. He congratulated the Editorial Board and the students for their rich contribuon. Frank Anthony Memorial All India Inter School Debate (2016) at Unity:- th The portals of Unity College buzzed with excitement and acvity on 15 July as they played host to a number of schools from different parts of the state for the Annual Frank Anthony Memorial Debate 2016 (Category-II) The esteemed judges for the occasion were Rev Fr. Vincent Nazareth, Ex-Principal St. Francis College, Ms. Jennifer Borges, Ex-Teacher St. Joseph Cathedral Senior Secondary School and Ms. Saira Khan, Ex-Principal King George Inter College. The Vice Principal Mr. Anoop Raj formally welcomed the judges and declared the meet open. Once the debate was over, Rev. Fr. Vincent was called upon to address the gathering. The great Irish playwright George Bernard Shaw once said: Progress is impossible without change, and those who cannot change their minds cannot change anything and rightly said, for the world we know today, with its technological wonders and vast pool of knowledge, could not have reached such a high state of development had it not for the people who dared to think different. There has been evolution from the time of early civilization. Man has moved from one level to another, from hunting and gathering food to farming and now reached the electronic age. There has always been resistance towards change. Acceptance of change brings fear, makes us uncomfortable. Those who tried to bring change have suffered throughout history. People like Copernicus and Galileo- great scientists, thinkers, social workers who helped to shape the modern world have suffered discrimination and opposition in their life time. A fine example of our time is Mother Teresa, now St. Teresa of Kolkata who had to give up the luxuries of life and work selflessly to bring change in the lives of the poor, the weakest and the abandoned people. The courage and exceptional talent of these people drove them to overcome all odds in their lives. It is never easy to be different to offer an alternate reality closer to the truth. But it is a task that must be fulfilled for the benefit and progress of mankind. Frank Anthony Memorial All India Inter School Debate (2016) at Unity:-

thThe portals of Unity College buzzed with excitement and ac�vity on 15 July as they played host to a number of schools from different parts of the state for the Annual Frank Anthony Memorial Debate 2016 (Category-II)

The esteemed judges for the occasion were Rev Fr. Vincent Nazareth, Ex-Principal St. Francis College, Ms. Jennifer Borges, Ex-Teacher St. Joseph Cathedral Senior Secondary School and Ms. Saira Khan, Ex-Principal King George Inter College. The Vice Principal Mr. Anoop Raj formally welcomed the judges and declared the meet open. Once the debate was over, Rev. Fr. Vincent was called upon to address the gathering. Eid Milan:-th

Unity College organized its Annual Eid-Milan Party on 19 July, 2016. The

guests in the party belonged to different communi�es. The Chief Guest on the

occasion was Sardar Gurmeet Singh, Ex-Superintendent of Medical College.

President Dr. S. Kalbe Sadiq acknowledged the philanthropic ac�vi�es of the

Chief Guest. He further urged everyone to follow true religion which is not to

live for oneself but to live for others. Addressing the gathering,

Sardar Gurmeet Singh gave some moral lessons to everyone present there.

He remarked that Allah always showers his blessings on those who follow the

right path.

The guests and the staff members enjoyed the sumptuous food and especially the Eid-Dessert 'Sewaiyeen'.

rd thThe Parents' Orienta�on for the Pre-Primary classes was held on 23 and 25 July, and for the Primary sec�on on

th26 July, 2016, with an objec�ve to ensure a good beginning and a posi�ve atmosphere for learning as well as co-opera�on among the trio – Teacher-Parent-Student.

At the onset of the session, Headmistress Ms. Kainaat Mansoor welcomed the parents of the �ny-tots. Then, she stressed on regular a�endance, dropping and picking the wards on �me, healthy lunch packs, �mely leave applica�ons, regular study and English speaking, as well as monitoring their friends, tui�ons and T.V. programmes. She also told them about good paren�ng.

Work-shop on Web-designing and Competitive Programming:-

A three-day Workshop on Web Designing and Compe��ve Programming for Class X to XII was held at Unity College th th

from 8 to 10 July, 2016. The workshop was conducted by Taqui Haider, Shahzer Husain and Mohd. Taha of Unity

College, 2014 batch, to enable college students to learn basic skills that would enhance their skill set. It not only

enriched their basic knowledge theore�cally but also helped them learn by performing ac�vi�es prac�cally.

Subsequently, the par�cipants made a simple website having all the basic components.

thOn 25 July, 2016, a Tree Planta�on Programme was organized at Unity

College to sensi�ze the students towards environment conserva�on. As we

are observing 2016 as , the Science Club took ini�a�ve to Year of Environment

plant saplings in the college campus.

The students of Botany and Biotech contributed to arrange a number of

ornamental and medicinal plants. The theme 'Clean Unity Green Unity'

pervaded as the students wearing tree badges gathered in the ground to

plant saplings. They have adopted the plants and will tend them too.

Principal Mr. Francis Castelino appreciated the ini�a�ves taken by the Science Club to spread greenery around and

save the deteriora�ng environment.

The maiden venture in Lucknow, Unity VEDA College of Media and Anima�on thinaugurated the Virtual Learning Centre for the city students on 5 August 2016.

It is launched by India's leading anima�on and media college P.A. Inamdar College of Visual Effects, Design and Art, Pune in partnership with Unity ITI, Lucknow. With this virtual facility, students of Lucknow for the first �me will be able to pursue these media and anima�on courses in the city only.

Welcoming the esteemed guests, College Secretary Mr. Najmul Hasan Rizvi complimented the dynamic leadership of Mr. P. A. Inamdar, President of PAI College of Pune, who has taken immense ini�a�ves to provide voca�onal

training to the students and arm them to carve a niche for themselves.

Mr. Rishi Aacharya, Principal of P.A. Inamdar College, informed that this novel venture will bridge the gap for Excellent Trainers. The interna�onally-cer�fied trainers of Pune will impart on-line lessons to the students si�ng in their Lucknow Class Rooms.

The courses available here are 3 year degree course in Media and Anima�on and also diploma in Graphic Designing, st

Web Designing and 3D Anima�on. The classes have already started from 1 August, 2016. All the courses are offered under 100% job assistance facility.

Inter House Debate Competition:-

Unity College became the arena of war of words as the four Houses gave a th

nail-bi�ng compe��on to each other on 29 July, 2016. The debate was held in two categories- Junior and Senior. The Juniors expressed their views enthusias�cally on the proposi�on 'Smartphones are making the youngsters of today smart', while the Seniors spoke in an eloquent manner on the topic 'Man is born free but is everywhere bound in chains'.The judges for the occasion were College Principal Mr. Francis Castelino, teacher Mr. Mehdi Naqvi and English Instructor at UITC Mr. Vivek Munshi. They appreciated the standard of the debate. Mr. Vivek Munshi advised the students to be good listeners besides being good speakers. At the Junior level, the best speakers (For) and (Against) were bagged by Ali Jibran and Andaleeb Rizvi, followed by Kaunain Zaidi clinching the Runners up. At the senior level, the best speakers (For) and (Against) were won by Iqra Asif and Fa�ma Naqvi, followed by Timsal Zehra receiving the Runners up. And the most coveted Champion Shield was bagged by Tagore House.

thThe Pre-Primary sec�on was buzzing with a lot of ac�vi�es to mark the Green Day on 29 July. The en�re sec�on joined hands to conserve the environment. The Lower Nursery and Upper Nursery Classes made paper trees whereas the Prep classes planted some saplings in the sec�on.

thTimes NIE, 'The Student's First Choice' organized a leadership seminar for class XI students on 6 August, 2016. Mr. Devesh Agarwal, the resource person commenced the seminar with clippings from 'Lagaan' and 'Chak de India'. He then highlighted the characteris�cs of a good leader and also pinpointed that a leader thinks differently. In this way he mo�vated the students to achieve personal leadership.

Principal Mr. Francis Castelino welcomed Jus�ce Haider Raza, who was the Chief Guest and a host of other dignitaries. The highlights of the programme were Tilawat-e-Quran to begin with, songs in praise of the Imam, speeches, showcasing his exemplary life and a ques�on-answer session with the audience.

All par�cipants were awarded prizes & cer�ficates by the school, whereas Jus�ce Haider Raza & Mr. Mehmood ul Hasan of Golden Tea Center gave away cash prizes too.HOD, Urdu Department (Lucknow University) Dr. Abbas Raza Nayyar appreciated the eloquence of the students and exhorted them to express their views fearlessly. Maulana Murad Raza emphasized on compassion for all. President Dr. S. Kalbe Sadiq expressed the vote of thanks to one and all. He urged everyone to support the downtrodden to gain knowledge and also a career.

Unity students were privileged to be a part of 3-day Art Exhibi�on programme organized by Vidya Gyan Leadership Academy in collabora�on with ICS Interna�onal and Lucknow expressions at Lalit Kala Academy.The objec�ve was to encourage art in the young students. Three ISC students Asra Laiq, Anhuma Islam and Safeena

thFarooq exhibited their pain�ngs in this forum on 11 August. The next day about a dozen students, visited the Lalit Kala Academy with the Art teachers to see the Exhibi�on. On the last day students were awarded with cer�ficates and trophies.

Patrio�c fervour exuded in the portals of Unity College when the Tiranga was hoisted at 8:00 a.m. sharp followed by the cap�va�ng lines of the Na�onal Anthem.The occasion was graced by the presence of Mohd Afsar from I.L.O., who was invited as the Chief Guest. He gave a visionary message of love and peace, to begin from one's family. He urged the students to make the best use of knowledge and technical skills and conserve the environment.The programme was marked by a couple of brilliant speeches, two ac�ons songs with the message to shun violence and terrorism. There was also a cap�va�ng skit

on the theme of intolerance with the strong message that it should be shunned. Unity College II shi� also added glamour to this programme by their skit and ac�on song based on the patrio�c fervor.The func�on culminated with the address given by College Secretary Mr. Najmul Hasan Rizvi and Principal Mr. Francis Castelino.

thThe �ny tots of Pre-Primary wing celebrated Independence Day on 16 August with patrio�c zeal. The events included ac�vi�es like making of kites in Na�onal colours, singing patrio�c songs and a fancy dress in the a�re of renowned freedom fighters.

The Biology Department of Unity College organized an educa�onal tour to Na�onal Botanical Research Ins�tute for classes XI and XII (Biology teacher & students) on 26 August, 2016.

The trip proved to very informa�ve and educa�ve as the students learnt about different aspects of the botanical world. The students visited the Conservatory. The Jurassic World, Cactus House, Bonsai House and the different laboratories of the Research ins�tute. The demonstra�on of �ssue culture provided the students with beneficial informa�on. The picturesque beauty and diversity of the plants at the place enthralled everyone. The valuable guidance of the escor�ng teachers and the laboratory workers made the trip more cherishing.

Career Counselling at Unity:

In order to cater to the crucial needs of students, Unity College invited ICS to conduct their comprehensive counselling session for class XII students which

nd thextended from 22 to 26 August.The first two sessions saw seminars for Science, Commerce and Humani�es. Next a wri�en test evaluated the skills, interest, personality, ap�tude and Career interests of each student. Finally, on the basis of each report, the counsellors Ms. Kanak Kak and Ms. Shahin Ansari undertook individual counselling of the students and suggested career op�ons for them.College Counsellor Ms. Nisar Fa�ma co-ordinated the en�re session successfully and Principal Mr. Francis Castelino thanked Dr. Amrita Das and her team for their valuable guidance to the students.

th29 August was the d-day at the Pre-Primary wing of Unity College when the �ny tots entered the college dressed up in different a�res and get ups for a Fancy Dress Compe��on.One by one they proudly or shyly ramped the stage, transpor�ng the viewers to the land of fairies and bu�erflies. All kinds of innova�ve ideas could be seen- clouds, trees, stars, toothpaste, tooth brush etc.The show stealers were- Mahatma Gandhi, a laptop and a trash box. The winners received prizes from the Principal Mr. Francis Castelino and Headmistress Mrs. Kainaat Manoor and the Art teachers who were the judges.The Headmistress Mrs. Kainaat Mansoor appreciated the awesome show put up by the �ny tots.

A number of co-curricular and extra-curricular ac�vi�es were organized in July and August in the Middle School by various teachers under the able guidance of Ms. Nisar Fa�ma, the Secondary Sec�on Incharge.

They included a tree planta�on drive, exhibi�on of science models wri�ng of manuscripts by Class VI-C students, a Hindi skit based on 'Save the Environment by VI-B, Science teaching done by demonstra�on in the Class as well as lab to make learning interes�ng and effec�ve.

A health related programme was also organized for girls by Proctor and Gamble for class VI girl Students.

stOn 1 September, 2016, the Headmistress, Ms. Kainaat Mansoor conducted a mo�va�onal session for the parents of

the weak students of classes Lower Nursery to V with an objec�ve to enhance their performance in the forthcoming

Half Yearly Examina�on and even later. The parents were advised to be informed of their wards' performance in class

and to keep a regular check on their daily work at home. The session boosted a wish to make their wards do their best

and also gave the parents an insight into their performance.

Urdu Literary Fiesta

An eye-feas�ng literary tribute was offered to Urdu laureates specially the Non- Muslim wri�ng in Urdu at the Annual Cultural Fiesta of Urdu Literary Club

rdof Unity College on 3 September, 2016 with an aim to preserve the rich heritage of the language and its prolific literature.

The auspicious func�on was graced by the benign presence of Chief Guest Dr. Roop Rekha Verma, Ex-Vice Chancellor of Lucknow University and founder of NGO 'Sanjhi Duniya'. The judges for the event were Mr. Asrar Husain, Ex. Deputy Director Informa�on and Mr. Karrar Asghar Zaidi, Administrator UITC. It was also a�ended by College President Dr. S. Kalbe Sadiq, Secretary Mr. Najmul Hasan Rizvi, Joint Secretary Dr. M. Talha and other Managing Commi�ee members. Dr. M. Talha warmly welcomed the guests. He mo�vated the students to visit libraries and read Urdu Literature.

The event featured a variety of literary programmes encompassing an ac�on song, drama and a compe��on en�tled 'Nazmi Muqabla'. The first was an ac�on song by Shailendra Kumar, presented by Primary students. Then unearthed the talent of drama�cs in the famous play 'Shatranj Ke Khiladli' by Munshi Prem Chand. The most cap�va�ng and engrossing was, the 'Nazmi Muqabla' among the four Houses. The par�cipants presented the poetry of great poets Shri Ved Narayan Chakbast, Ram Prasad Bismil and Shri Durga Sahai.

Dr. Roop Rekha Verma addressed the students and extolled them for the fabulous show. She advised them to imbibe the virtues of love, broad mindedness and tolerance. The curtain drew on the beau�ful a�ernoon with the thanks giving note by the College President Dr. S. Kalbe Sadiq.

Teachers' Day is a day when we remember our teachers and their unparallel

contribu�on in our success. Unity College had a special assembly

organized by the Student Council to pay a warm tribute to the teachers on

5th September, 2016. Students proposed thanks giving notes and also sang

beau�ful numbers dedicated to their teachers. There were tongue twisters to

evoke pricks of laughter. The domes�c staff also offered melodious songs

dedicated to teachers.Later in the fes�vely-decorated Central Hall a cultural programme was held. The

auspicious gathering comprised College Secretary Mr. Najmul Hasan Rizvi,

Joint Secretary Dr. M. Talha, Principal Mr. Francis Castelino and the whole fraternity. Mr. Najmul Hasan Rizvi greeted

the teachers on the special day. He then presented a short video clip showcasing the traits of an ideal teacher. He said

the spirit of the day should be maintained amidst all fes�ve celebra�ons.

Extra Marks Counselling Session

Ms. Vani Govel and Ms. Parmeshwari from Extra Marks conducted a th

comprehensive Career planning session on 9 September, 2016 which was a�ended by the students of Class XI of Unity College and Unity College II shi�. It was co-ordinated by College Counsellor Ms. Nisar Fa�ma.

The counsellors unfolded some future problems and their clever solu�ons. They asserted that it is the right �me for the students to plan their career, besides abreas�ng them with new career op�ons. The main emphasis was on the choice of career and how to overcome the barriers in pursuing it. At last, the students' queries were answered with possible solu�ons. The session was enriching as well as inspira�onal.

The Primary & Pre-Primary Sec�on of Unity College organized a Poem-Recita�on Compe��on On 8th and 16th Sept., respec�vely. The theme being Environment, the poems encompassed the crucial issues like Save water, Save earth, Save air, Recycling etc. The a�rac�ve props enhanced the presenta�ons. Their overall performance enthralled the audience. The students were judged on the basis of memoriza�on, ar�cula�on, pronuncia�on and expression. The winners were classes L.N.-B, U.N-B, Prep-A, I-C, II-B, III-B, IV-C and

V-B. Also present on the occasion were Principal Mr. Francis Castelino and Headmistress Ms. Kainaat Mansoor. The compe��on came to an end with the vote of thanks by the Headmistress.

Unity celebrates Id-e-Ghadeer

Unity College along with Unity College II shi� celebrated Id-e-Ghadeer with full fervour and fidelity to Imam Ali (A.S.)

and his teachings. A short solemn programme was organized by the Department of Theology to sensi�ze the students

towards compassion and service to the orphans and the poor. It was in compliance to the Imam's ardent love for

children, especially the orphans. He used to caress and embrace them so lovingly that a few of his followers wished if

they were orphans too, they would get Imam's a�en�on. Hence, the students exchanged gi�s and embraced each

other with warm gree�ngs. They recited Qaseedas in praise of Imam Ali (A.S.)

The func�on commenced with a lovely tribute to the educators. It was followed

by a skit based on Kapil Sharma's comedy show that evoked laughter and

enthralled all. Some games were also arranged that made the a�ernoon more

lovely and entertaining. Then the teachers were honoured with gi�s as a token of love and gra�tude.

Along with them, the office and domes�c staff were honoured too.

Like every year this year too Teacher's Day was celebrated in Unity College II shi�. Mr. Najmul Hasan the College Secretary, Mr. Kalbe Sibtain Noori and College Principal Ms. Shabana Ahmed were also present to grace the occasion.The programme started with a short, comedy skit presented by Class XII students, followed by musical chair race for male teachers. A Power-Point Presenta�on edited by Najmul Hasan Sir was also showed to the teachers, dissemina�ng the message that a teacher should be honest, hard working, mo�vated and some one who is passionate about work and caring for the students. The programme proceeded with a series of cultural progamme by the students.The programme came to an end when College Manager Mr. Kalbe Sibtain Noori congratulated the teachers. Principal Ms. Shabana Ahmed proposed the vote of thanks saying that students spend most of the �me with teachers, so teacher should act as facilitators. Gi�s were also given to every staff member, followed by refreshments.

Unity College II-shi� organized a workshop on Personality Development

th thon 19 August & 20 August 2016, for the Senior and Higher Secondary students. They acquainted themselves with the basic skills of communica�on. The resource person Syed Afsar told students that it is confidence that ma�ers to communicate well. Students

observed each and every thing keenly - how to wish, how to respond or how to interact with people on different occasions. He also guided children how to behave in new and perhaps uncomfortable situa�ons. Communica�on skills are of prime importance for a job or college interview. Work Shop for Personality Development

A�er comple�ng a one-month training programme successfully “Medha Team” organized a Cer�fica�on Ceremony for the students who had par�cipated in the training.To encourage the students, College Secretary Mr. Najmul Hasan, Principal Ms. Shabana Ahmed, 'Medha' head Mr. Vyomkesh and his team were present there. The programme started with a group discussion on 'The i m p o r t a n c e o f I n t e r n e t ' w h i c h w a s appreciated by all. Students also presented a skit on the importance of speaking and expressed their views on 'Trial and Error Theory'.Mr. Najmul Hasan Rizvi mo�vated the students, saying that cer�fica�on is only a ceremony, skills and hard work are more important. Reluctance to deliver, reluctance to ask hinder development. He further said we have to achieve perfec�on and u�lize the opportuni�es to the maximum. Development of personality is also important. Sir Vyomkesh said that we get energy from the youth, the college students.Ms. Shabana Ahmed proposed the vote of thanks.

The theme of the Wall Magazine Compe��on was 'Seasons'. All the teachers and students worked very hard and the output was noteworthy. The judges had a tough �me grading the exhibits They were overwhelmed by the hand work and dedica�on put in the work.As per the judgment of the panel of judges the first winner was Radha Krishnan House followed by Mother Teresa and Asif-uddaula House at the second place. Mohd. Ali Shah House got the fourth place.

T h r e e m e r i t o r i o u s students of Unity College shi�, Farheen Kazmi, Nazia Khan and Afreen received Rs. 30,000/- each under the U.P. Government Kanya Dhan Scheme.
