"Lead on O King Eternal"
Lead on O King Eternal
The day of march has come
Henceforth in fields of conquest
Your tents shall be our home
Through days of preparation
Your grace has made us strong
And now O King eternal
We lift our battle song
Lead on O King Eternal
Till sin's fierce war shall cease
And holiness shall whisper
The sweet Amen of peace
For not with swords loud clashing
Nor roll of stirring drums
With deeds of love and mercy
The heavenly kingdom comes
Lead on O King Eternal
We follow not with fears
For gladness breaks like morning
Where'er Your face appears
Your cross is lifted o'er us
We journey in its light
The crown awaits the conquest
Lead on O God of might

“We Bow Down”
You are Lord of creation and Lord of my life,
Lord of the land and the sea;
You were Lord of the heavens
Before there was time,
And Lord of all lords You will be.
We bow down And we worship You, Lord,
We bow down And we worship You, Lord;
We bow down And we worship You, Lord,
Lord of all lords You will be.
You are King of creation And King of my life,
King of the land and the sea;
You were King of the heavens
Before there was time,
And King of all kings You will be.
We bow down And we crown You the King,
We bow down And we crown You the King;
We bow down And we crown You the King,
King of all kings You will be.

The Lessons Proper 20C
First Lesson Jeremiah 8:18-9:1(NIV)
This complex passage takes place on the very edge of
destruction for Judah and Jerusalem. The text begins and
ends with the Prophet’s outpouring of grief for his people.
Framed inside are expressions of surprise and dismay by
the people themselves. And at the very center, in
parenthesis, is God’s own incredulous response.
Reader: A Reading from the Prophet Jeremiah.
18 You who are my Comforter in sorrow, my heart
is faint within me. 19 Listen to the cry of my people
from a land far away: “Is the Lord not in Zion? Is her
King no longer there?” “Why have they aroused my
anger with their images, with their worthless foreign
idols?” 20 “The harvest is past, the summer has
ended, and we are not saved.” 21 Since my people are
crushed, I am crushed; I mourn, and horror grips me. 22 Is there no balm in Gilead? Is there no physician
there? Why then is there no healing for the wound
of my people? 9 Oh, that my head were a spring of
water and my eyes a fountain of tears! I would weep
day and night for the slain of my people.
Reader: The Word of the Lord.
People: Thanks be to God.
Psalm 79: 1-9 BCP, 701
Deus, venerunt
1 O God, the heathen have come into your
inheritance; they have profaned your holy temple;*
they have made Jerusalem a heap of rubble.
2 They have given the bodies of your servants as food
for the birds of the air, *
and the flesh of your faithful ones to the beasts
of the field.
3 They have shed their blood like water on every side
of Jerusalem, *
and there was no one to bury them.
4 We have become a reproach to our neighbors, *
an object of scorn and derision to those around us.
5 How long will you be angry, O LORD? *
will your fury blaze like fire for ever?
6 Pour out your wrath upon the heathen who have
not known you *
and upon the kingdoms that have not called upon
your Name.
7 For they have devoured Jacob *
and made his dwelling a ruin.
8 Remember not our past sins;
let your compassion be swift to meet us; *
for we have been brought very low.
9 Help us, O God our Savior, for the glory of your
Name; *
deliver us and forgive us our sins, for your Name’s
sake.
Hymnal, S-37
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the
Holy Spirit; as it was in the beginning, is now,
and will be forever. Amen.
Second Lesson 1 Timothy 2:1-7 (NIV)
If the young Church was going to grow, it needed peaceful
and orderly conditions to spread the Word. Paul tells
these early Christians to pray for all in civil authority.
We still do that today.
Reader: A Reading from Paul’s first Letter To Timothy.
1 I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers,
intercession and thanksgiving be made for all
people— 2 for kings and all those in authority, that
we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness
and holiness. 3 This is good, and pleases God our
Savior, 4 who wants all people to be saved and to
come to a knowledge of the truth. 5 For there is one
God and one mediator between God and mankind,
the man Christ Jesus, 6 who gave himself as a ransom
for all people. This has now been witnessed to at the
proper time. 7 And for this purpose I was appointed
a herald and an apostle—I am telling the truth, I am
not lying—and a true and faithful teacher of the
Gentiles.
Reader: The Word of the Lord.
People: Thanks be to God.
*Sequence Hymn Hymnal, 440
"Blessed Jesus At Thy Word" Blessèd Jesus, at thy word
we are gathered all to hear thee;
let our hearts and souls be stirred
now to seek and love and fear thee;
by thy teachings pure and holy,
drawn from earth to love thee solely.
All our knowledge, sense, and sight
lie in deepest darkness shrouded,
till thy Spirit breaks our night
with the beams of truth unclouded;
thou alone to God canst win us;
thou must work all good within us.
3
Gracious Lord, thyself impart!
Light of Light, from God proceeding,
open thou our ears and heart,
help us by thy Spirit’s pleading.
Hear the cry thy Church upraises;
hear, and bless our prayers and praises.
*The Gospel Reading Luke 16: 1-13 (NIV)
The rich man’s steward was a shrewd operator, but that’s
almost incidental. He had a quick wit and an instinctive
understanding of the “real world.” He made his choice and
so must we: Will we be faithful to God or to Mammon?
Deacon: The Holy Gospel of Our Lord Jesus
Christ according to Luke.
People: Glory to you, Lord Christ.
1 Jesus told his disciples: “There was a rich man
whose manager was accused of wasting his
possessions. 2 So he called him in and asked him,
‘What is this I hear about you? Give an account of
your management, because you cannot be manager
any longer.’ 3 “The manager said to himself, ‘What
shall I do now? My master is taking away my job. I’m
not strong enough to dig, and I’m ashamed to beg— 4 I know what I’ll do so that, when I lose my job
here, people will welcome me into their houses.’ 5 “So he called in each one of his master’s debtors.
He asked the first, ‘How much do you owe my
master?’ 6 “‘Nine hundred gallons of olive oil,’ he
replied. “The manager told him, ‘Take your bill, sit
down quickly, and make it four hundred and fifty.’ 7 “Then he asked the second, ‘And how much do
you owe?’ “‘A thousand bushels of wheat,’ he
replied. “He told him, ‘Take your bill and make it
eight hundred.’ 8 “The master commended the
dishonest manager because he had acted shrewdly.
For the people of this world are more shrewd in
dealing with their own kind than are the people of
the light. 9 I tell you, use worldly wealth to gain
friends for yourselves, so that when it is gone, you
will be welcomed into eternal dwellings. 10 “Whoever can be trusted with very little can also
be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest
with very little will also be dishonest with much. 11 So if you have not been trustworthy in handling
worldly wealth, who will trust you with true riches? 12 And if you have not been trustworthy with
someone else’s property, who will give you
property of your own? 13 “No one can serve two
masters. Either you will hate the one and love the
other, or you will be devoted to the one and
despise the other. You cannot serve both God and
money.”
Deacon: The Gospel of the Lord.
People: Praise to you, Lord Christ.

“A Call To Intercede”
*The Nicene Creed
We believe in one God,
the Father, the Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all that is, seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son
of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God
from God, Light from Light, true God from true
God, begotten, not made, of one being with the
Father. Through him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation he came down from
heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he
became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and
was made man.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius
Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On
the third day he rose again in accordance with
the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is
seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver
of life, who proceeds from the Father and the
Son. With the Father and the Son he is
worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through
the Prophets.
We believe in one holy *catholic and apostolic
Church.
We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the
life of the world to come. Amen. *Universal

Celebrant:
It is right, and a good and joyful thing, always and
everywhere to give thanks to you, Father Almighty,
Creator of heaven and earth. For you are the
source of light and life, you made us in your image,
and called us to new life in Jesus Christ our Lord.
Therefore we praise you, joining our voices

proclaim the glory of your Name:

You may remain standing, kneel or sit.
Celebrant:
Holy and gracious Father: In your infinite love
you made us for yourself; and, when we had fallen
into sin and become subject to evil and death, you,
in your mercy, sent Jesus Christ, your only and
eternal Son, to share our human nature, to live and
die as one of us, to reconcile us to you, the God
and Father of all.
He stretched out his arms upon the cross, and
offered himself in obedience to your will, a perfect
sacrifice for the whole world.
At the following words concerning the bread and cup, the
Celebrant is to hold it, or lay a hand upon it; and any other
vessel containing wine to be consecrated.
On the night he was handed over to suffering and
death, our Lord Jesus Christ took bread; and when
he had given thanks to you, he broke it, and gave it
to his disciples, and said, “Take, eat: This is my Body,
which is given for you. Do this for the remembrance
of me.”
After supper he took the cup of wine; and when
he had given thanks, he gave it to them, and said,
“Drink this, all of you: This is my Blood of the new
Covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the
forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this
for the remembrance of me.”
Therefore we proclaim the mystery of faith:
Celebrant and People
Christ has died.
Christ is risen.
Christ will come again.
Celebrant:
We celebrate the memorial of our redemption,
O Father, in this sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving.
Recalling his death, resurrection, and ascension, we
offer you these gifts.
Sanctify them by your Holy Spirit to be for your
people the Body and Blood of your Son, the holy
food and drink of new and unending life in him.
Sanctify us also that we may faithfully receive this
holy Sacrament, and serve you in unity, constancy,
and peace; and at the last day bring us with all your
saints into the joy of your eternal kingdom.
All this we ask through your Son Jesus Christ. By
him, and with him, and in him, in the unity of the
Holy Spirit all honor and glory is yours, Almighty
Father, now and for ever. AMEN.
And now, as our Savior Christ has taught us, we
are bold to say,
The Lord’s Prayer BCP, 364
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy Name,
thy kingdom come, thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
and the power, and the glory,
for ever and ever. Amen.

"How Lovely Is Thy Dwelling Place"
How lovely is thy dwelling-place,
O Lord of hosts, to me!
My thirsty soul desires and longs
within thy courts to be;
my very heart and flesh cry out,
O living God, for thee. 6
7
Beside thine altars, gracious Lord,
the swallows find a nest;
how happy they who dwell with thee
and praise thee without rest,
and happy they whose hearts are set
upon the pilgrim’s quest.
They who go through the desert vale
will find it filled with springs,
and they shall climb from height to height
till Zion’s temple rings
with praise to thee, in glory throned,
Lord God, great King of kings.
One day within thy courts excels
a thousand spent away;
how happy they who keep thy laws
nor from thy precepts stray,
for thou shalt surely bless all those
who live they words they pray.

The Blessing
The Lord God Almighty, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit,
the holy and undivided Trinity, guard you, save you,
and bring you to that heavenly city, where he lives,
and reigns for ever and ever. Amen.
*Recessional Hymnal, 522
“Glorious Things Of Thee Are Spoken”
Glorious things of thee are spoken,
Zion, city of our God;
he whose word cannot be broken
formed thee for his own abode;
on the Rock of Ages founded,
what can shake thy sure repose?
With salvation’s walls surrounded,
thou may’st smile at all thy foes. See! the streams of living waters,
springing from eternal love,
well supply thy sons and daughters
and all fear of want remove.
Who can faint, when such a river
ever will their thirst assuage?
Grace which, like the Lord, the giver
never fails from age to age. Round each habitation hovering,
see the cloud and fire appear
for a glory and a covering,
showing that the Lord is near.
Thus deriving from their banner,
light by night, and shade by day,
safe they feed upon the manna
which he gives them when they pray. Blest inhabitants of Zion,
washed in the Redeemer’s blood!
Jesus, whom their souls rely on,
makes them kings and priests to God.
’Tis his love his people raise
over self to reign as kings:
and as priests, his solemn praises
each for a thank-offering brings.

Holy Cross Church will host a CRYOUT16 event in the Parish hall on 9/23/16. Dinner will be at 6:00 pm and set up
will start at 6:30 and the simulcast is from 7-10. This nationwide prayer meeting will originate from Indianapolis where 6,500
women will be gathered for the True Woman ’16 conference. Bob Bakke will lead with Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth. Our focus will not
be on big-name speakers, but simply on crying out to the Lord. However, a number of Christian leaders and intercessors, such as
Kay Arthur, Joni Tada, Janet Parshall, Stephen Kendrick and others will be
participating from around the country. You
will not be bored! The time will pass very quickly! No one will be
pressured to pray aloud. The evening will be interactive and will include a lot of variety.
You can expect meaningful segments of: singing to the Lord, reading Scripture, listening to short
messages about the spiritual condition and needs of our land, being led in prayer by different leaders and
speakers, praying in small groups about specific concerns. All this will be done, together! Six thousand women in Indianapolis, joining
hundreds of thousands of women, in thousands of other locations, bowing before the Throne of heaven, crying out for the God of the
universe to intervene, praying for His kingdom to come, in our world, in our day!

Please remember when scheduled to serve in any function if there is a conflict and you will not be
available, it is your responsibility to find a replacement and let the office know so that corrections can

Hot Jobs to Fill: Dear Holy Cross Family, we need you! Here are a few ways you can help out:
Matthew 25:40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers
and sisters of mine, you did for me.’
Kids In Christ Nursery: We can always use volunteers here, if you feel led to play with the little
ones for the length of the service once in a while, (you don’t have to commit to every week) please contact Mirtha Acevedo: 863-221-4946
Kids In Christ Chapel: Teachers are needed, the curriculum is already done and activities planned, you just need to show up
with a smile and supervise. Call Sally Covey 863-956-6024
Lay Eucharistic Ministers: We need more people who are willing to be trained to take Communion from church on Sunday to
the home of someone who can’t be in church. You will be trained and you will determine how often you are available. If you are interested or have questions please see either Deacon Betty or Father Richard.
