THE POWER OF THE POSSIBLE
CADWorx® mining the data What are the options Can we automate
AGENDA
10 steps to convert AutoCAD® drawings to “intelligent” AutoCAD® P&ID drawings
CADWorx® conversion Connecting to CADWorx® Database Can this process be Automated??
Q & A
Set up your New Project as if you are going to redraw the entire P&ID collection
Step #1
Create a “NEW” drawing using the tools in P&ID This sets up all your
Standards you created in your Project.
Step #2
Insert the drawing to be converted as a block, Explode Change all items on drawing to Layer “0” with color as
“bylayer”
Step #3
Tip: Laytrans or Laymrg
Step #4 Convert all Equipment items
to P&ID smart items – or insert standard items from the palette on top of each existing piece of equipment
OR
Insert standard items from the palette on top of each existing piece of equipment
Remove replaced items
Step #5
Trace process lines over existing lines, one at a time, removing underlying lines as you go
Place lines over the top of all inline assets
Step #6 Tag the process
lines at this point it will make inline assets easier
Step #7 Inline Assets (if process line is there
converting an assets does break the line)
Step #8 Instrumentation
Better to replace than convert.
Blocks lose attributes when converted
Step #9
Freeze all layers except Layer 0, be sure all items have been duplicated, or replaced
Miscellaneous annotation text to layer TEXT
Set up all Project / Drawing properties
Step #10
Off Page Connectors Validation
CADWORX (or other smart P&ID’s)
Database access Converting equipment Converting inline assets
CADWORX (or other smart P&ID’s)
Select type of Equipment Select DB File CONVERT
Convert reads the objects ID_Count
Executes a “Convert to P&ID Object”
Copies all tagging information from DB to new P&ID item
(mapping required)
