PCI-DIO Cards 6 - 8 PCI-7296/7248/7224 Opto-22 Compatible 96/48/24-CH DIO Cards ports; PA, PB, and PC. PC is sub-divided into 2 nibble-wide (4-bit) ports. Each digital channel has an individual pin on the OPTO-22 connec- tor. All 96/48/24 digital I/O channels can sink 24mA for high driving capacity applications. Programmable Timer/Counter PCI-7296/48/24 each have a programmable timer counter for generating periodic interrupts to the host processor. The timer/counter chip is 82C54, which includes three 16-bit counters. One counter is used as an event counter for counting events coming from one input chan- nel. The another two timers are cascaded together making a 32-bit timer which can con- trol the rate of interrupt generation. The header connectors are fully compatible with industry Opto-22 standard. Therefore, PCI-7296/48/24 can fully utilize the Opto-22 external devices used in the ISA age. The PCI plug and play feature makes these boards easier to install than any other ISA bus cards. It is time to get into the PCI age for new industrial applications. PCI Bus Plug and Play The PCI-7296/48/24 uses a PCI controller ASIC to interface with the PCI bus. The ASIC fully implements the PCI local bus specification Rev 2.1. All bus relative configurations, such as base memory address and interrupt assign- ment, are automatically controlled by hardware and PCI BIOS. It does not need user interac- tion and pre-study for PC configurations. This reduces the burden of searching for conflict- free configurations. Hence, it saves more time than using the ISA bus cards. Parallel Digital I/O On-board circuits emulate the industry stan- dard 8255 programmable peripheral interface (PPI) chips. The PCI-7296/48/24 provides 4/2/1 PPI chips. Each PPI offers three 8 bit Dual Internal System The PCI-7296/48/24 can accept dual interrupt sources. One source is from I/O port or the event counter, the another source is from I/O port or the timer chip. The dual interrupt config- uration is very flexible for any industrial applica- tion. For users who do not want use any inter- rupt, a software utility is used to disable the interrupt so that the PCI plug & play BIOS will not assign any interrupt vector for this card.
