Paschim Banga Society for Skill Development (PBSSD) under the Department of Technical Education, Training & Skill Development (TET&SD), Government of West Bengal organized a CXO meet along with the Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) on Friday, 29th June 2018 in the Chamber premises.

The Technical Education, Training & Skill Development (TET&SD)

Department is the nodal department for all the skill development interventions of the Government of West Bengal and facilitates the interventions made under the ambit of PBSSD.

PBSSD has been tasked for the implementation of Deen Dayal Upadhyaya – Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY), a flagship scheme of Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India for the State of West Bengal. DDU-GKY is a Placement Linked Skill Development scheme which focuses on skilling rural youth aged between 15-35 years and place them in the job markets. PBSSD aims to train 73,514 candidates over 3 years under DDU-GKY.

In addition to DDU-GKY, the TET &SD department through its Directorates and Councils aims to impart the skill training to around 6 lakhs youths in the state under various institutional and non-institutional mode.

Recognizing the importance of placement in the ongoing DDU-GKY scheme and in order to maximize the employability of the trained candidates, PBSSD in association with the BCCI organized the CXO meet which gave a platform where the Industry stalwarts, who

understand the Industry demand and the Training providers, who understand the supply challenges and skill availability, came together to discuss ways and means of ensuring that the skilling initiatives made by Government of West Bengal becomes successful.

The meet had the presence of the Hon’ble Minister- In-Charge, Shri Purnendu Basu, Department of Technical Education, Training & Skill Development (TET&SD), Government of West Bengal and Smt. Roshni Sen, IAS, Principal Secretary, Department of Technical Education, Training and Skill Development, Government of West Bengal who had set the context for the meet and welcomed all the delegates across various sectors.

A panel discussion on “ Industry Demand and Challenges faced in providing placement opportunities” was organized and was participated by Mr. Ambarish Dasgupta, Past President, BCCI, Mr. Debkumar Basu , Chairperson – Manufacturing & MSME Committee,

The meet was well attended by more than 80 CXO’s, HR Heads, Regional Heads and senior representatives from the corporates across 15 different focused sectors. The event was covered by various leading media houses of the State.

With the increasing no. of the trainees passing out from various skilling interventions the need of the hour would be to focus on the placement of the passed out candidates. As an outcome of the discussions held during the CXO meet, PBSSD, in association with BCCI would establish multiple placement cells at the state and the district levels.

Efforts would be taken to bridge the gap in demand & supply and to leverage the need based placements by establishing necessary links with industry.
