INTRODUCTIONPBR TECHNOLOGY S.r.l. operates on national and international markets as a general contractor and sub-contractor for the construction of natural gas, oil, and water pipelines for the most important Italian and overseas petrochemical industries (Snam Rete Gas SpA, ABB Soimi, Agip, Edison, Italgas, Enagas, Gaz de France, Wingas GmbH, RWE GmbH, etc).

Since the immediate post war period, PBR Technology has been operating with diverse Italian and foreign business partners in the field of civil works, excavation works, construction of gas and natural gas pipelines, consolidation of river banks, and creation and management of ecological / restoration systems for quarries.

The partners that set up PBR Technology had previously developed special technical, organizational and managerial expert se in their specific fields of operation. The contribution of each partner enabled PBR Technology to tackle the market equipped with the ISO 9001:2008 quality system certification, SOAcertifications for public works, and the qualification with inclusion in the “Vendors’ List “ of Snam Rete Gas s.p.a., as suppliers for the following classes:

• Civil works for the construction and implementation of plants small scale LNG.• Mechanical works for the realization and implementation of plants small scale LNG.• Building works for the construction and implementation of CNG / L-CNG plants for

autotraction.• Green accommodation and maintenance.• Construction and maintenance of hydraulic defense works.• Minor works of modifications and maintenance of central systems.• High-pressure gas pipelines DN < 350.• Minor building works, assembly / construction of pipelines DN <350 and maintenance

works of pipelines DN ≤ 650.• High pressure gas pipelines 350 < DN < 650.

The company’s fleet of operating machines and its highly qualified management and administrative personnel complete the contribution made by the partners that, in recent years, have become part of the company organization.

Today PBR Technology operates with the latest routing and excavation equipment, highly qualified personnel, and state-of- the-art equipment for the building and testing of technological systems required for the construction of pressurized pipelines. It also has a high-tech workshop for the maintenance of operating machines, as well as design, modification and setup of special machines and equipment for the execution of any type of work.

BUSINESS AREAS:

The know-how and experience acquired over many years in the pipeline sectorenables the company to execute all the works involved in pipeline construction:

• Pipeline civil works (land surveying using GPS equipment, route staking, route clearance, excavation, backfill, definitive reinstatement work, open-cut or drilled system water crossings, complementary works, etc.);

• Pipeline mechanical works (pipe stringing, pipe bending, welding, sand-blasting and wrapping, pipeline laying, connection of pipeline sections, hydraulic tests, cathodic protection of pipes, etc.);

• General civil and mechanical works (excavation and earth moving work, concrete pouring, backfill, preprefabrication of piping, mechanical assembly, sandblasting and wrapping, de-watering and hydraulic tests, complementary works etc);

• Transportation (inside construction site area and surrounding PBR Technology is equipped for responsive movements and nimble adjusting organization of our construction machines)

• Other operations required for the completion of the works.

PATENT: LARGE PIPE CUTTER®

The pipe cutting machine cold cuts the pi-

pes under control of the operator on whose

excavator it has been applied, after placing

it astride on the pipe at the point of cutting.

The LPC® machine can be used for the re-

moval of pipes of any type and diameter,

after adjusting it according to the diameters

and the materials of the pipes to be remo-

ved.

In the field of pipelines this requirement

for removal of the existing pipes, that are

placed out of service and drained, is due

to ageing or inadequate sizes of the pipes

which are therefore removed and replaced

with new ones.

The disposal of the existing pipe takes pla-

ce through the total decommissioning and

removal of the sections that make it up and

of the secondary lines branching off from

them.

The purpose of this machine is to provide

an innovative type of apparatus that allows

both to cut and, subsequently, to lift the pipe

from the bottom of the excavation where it

is placed, without requiring operators inside

the excavation and/or on the ground.

The machine can be applied on an exca-

vator and controlled by a single operator

who operates the actuators and controls it.

Therefore no cutting team is required inside

the excavation nor special temporary instal-

lation for the safety of the excavation and

the size of the excavation can consequently

be smaller.

PBR TECHNOLOGY has been awarded a

patent for a special pipe cutter “large pipe

cutter” ®, a machine with hydraulic drive

that can cold cut pipes in metal, plastic or

concrete, with diameters from medium to

large (over 50 cm or 20”), without needing

a jig (or other supporting device) inside the

pipe itself, thanks to multiple punches that

work simultaneously without removal of

material.

This is an innovative type of equipment that

effectively replaces the traditional oxy-hy-

drogen torch and eradicates any risk of fire

or explosion: the eradication concerns - on

one hand - all risks associated with the pre-

sence of flammable residues of gas or fuel

previously transported by the pipe (and we

here remind that the high flammability of

gases or liquids in the pipeline - though pre-

viously drained - has often been the cause

of accidents with serious consequences)

and - on the other hand - the risks related to

the operations of removal of the polyethy-

lene coating which is generally positioned

all around the pipeline as anticorrosive pro-

tection. This type of protection is in fact

made of combustible material and is there-

fore clear that its prior removal is essential

as a matter of safety against the risk of fire

and explosion before torch cutting. With the

use of the LPC ®, the removal of the corro-

sion protection is no longer necessary on

account of the cold cutting technique, with

considerable saving in operating times and

costs, as well as with the fundamental gua-

rantee of safety, and protection of the en-

vironment (the removal of the coating also

involves a problem of waste management).

With the use of LPC ®, the risks due to

explosive atmospheres and fire are practi-

cally zeroed and firefighting teams need no

longer to be permanently in attendance du-

ring all the phases of the operation.

BUSINESS AREAS: Emergency response servicePBR TECHNOLOGY S.r.l. is able to gua-rantee a prompt and effective service for emergency situations and disaster re-sponse. This is a support service to public bodies and private organizations in order to solve emergency situations due to na-tural events and disasters, negligence or intentional offences involving territories particularly subject to risk, towns and inhabited areas, infrastructures and bu-ildings, utilities, companies, and various types of networks. The work is carried out for public health and safety requirements, protection of public and private services and, more in general, to guarantee the im-mediate return to normal conditions.We have a specific experience develo-ped in emergency and disaster response situations which enables us to intervene with the required equipment and machi-nes. The jobs can entail the following:

01. Landslides and rockslides that thre-aten built-up areas and manufacturing areas;

02. Roads interrupted by landslides, rockslides, water erosion, or due to the collapse or damage to bridges, with the ensuing situation of towns or inhabited areas being cut off or running the risk of being cut off;

03. Protection work for seriously dama-ged essential infrastructures such as wa-ter systems, sewage systems, wastewa-

ter purification plants and energy supply networks;

04. Troubleshooting, identification and eli-mination of spills and/or faults in the gas distribution system (natural gas pipelines); 05. Works to reinstate safety after rocksli-des, soil erosion, collapse or damage to bridges;

06. Flood defence works for the safety of built-up urban areas and/or rural areas threatened by serious flooding. The work includes removal of gravel, debris and obstacles that impede the regular flow of water;

07. Works to maintain correct river flow and/or reinstatement works on water-courses following serious flooding to towns and infrastructures.

QUARRY MITIGATION Expertise in the field of quarries that ex-tracted stone for the production of aggre-gate for the building industry. The jobs

include reprofiling of slopes, perforation with hydraulic drilling rigs and/or excava-tors with demolition hammers, crushing, extraction, transport of the material, and final preparation of the slopes by means of covering them with geotextile sheeting suitable for hydro-seeding.

CLEARANCE WORK ON STONYTERRAINPBR TECHNOLOGY S.r.l. executes any clearance and reinstatement work on terrain featuring rocks, stones, and peb-bles of diverse size and shape via remo-val work or via mechanical screening and crushing. For the latter process the com-pany is equipped with grading type vi-brating screens and special mobile stone crushing plants (Kirpy type) mounted on large high-cylinder tractors that process materials with size up to 150 mm. This equipment is ideal for clearing mountain roads, maintenance of ski slopes and the clearance and reinstatement of stony ter-rain. Said equipment is moreover used for the scheduled maintenance of roads and forest areas with very stony terrain, in particular flat or low hilly areas or pasture land, ensuring a surface finish (after one pass or max. two with crusher and stone collector) ready for the roller compaction and reprofiling.

In addition to its great excavation experience in open air crossing rivers, PBR has implemented its competence by adopting different technologies for trenchless crossings and sub-soil consolidations:

Drilling with jackingThis technology allows the crossing of natural and man-made obstacles such as roads, existing plants, underground utilities, railroads, and so on. It operates with the prior creation of thrust and arrival workstations, possibly reinforced by metal sheet pile and supported by well point systems. After that, the subsequent execution of drilling using hydraulic jacks which are pushed by the pipe that inside is provided with screw feeders for the excavated material disposal. As part of this technology, PBR has developed an improved methodology that allows to combine the push-tube with the RIG system, which manages the pipe direction through the realization of the pilot hole.

Drilling in H.D.D.PBR Technology is in the process of acquiring organizational structure and human resources to realize an independent and direct way of such technology.The PBR’s know-how coming from its experience in pipeline as a contractor, management and coordinator of works, as well as under professional collaboration with engineers and industry specialists, allows to look with confidence to a rapid obtaining of a specialization and qualification in the HDD execution.This technology allows to run the crossings without making excavations in open air, but instead performing a hole piloted at curved-line trajectory, for pipes with diameters up to 1600 mm, pull lengths of up to 2000 m, and depths up to 20 ml

Flood defence works on the Rimini-S. Sepolcro section of the natural gas pi-peline DN 650 (26”) along the right bank of the Marecchia river, in the mu-nicipality of Pennabilli (RN). The works were carried out to guarantee safety of the natural gas pipelines located in the area close to the right bank of the Marecchia river. The works include a series of reinstatement work, flood defence work and protection of the current natural gas pipeline, specifically along the right bank of the Marecchia river near the built-up area of Pennabilli (RN). Length of the section: approx. 240 linear matres.
