    Scripture

a light for the nations, to open the eyes of the blind, to bring out the dungeon, those who

    live in darkness. (Isaiah 42:6,7)

The Lord will bless his people with peace. (Psalm 29:11)

doing good and healing all those oppressed by the devil, (Acts 10:38)

I need to be baptized by you and yet you are coming to me? (Mat 3:14)

    Reflection

Why does Jesus come to John? and come to you?

Who are those who live in darkness that Jesus sets free? How are you in your parish a light for the nations?

How do you live Gods blessing and receive Jesus in your life?

Like all living things, a living faith needs nourishment, which the mature adult disciple finds abovunion with Christ. It is also maintained by:

frequent reading of the word of God

involvement in the community life and mission of the Church

    personal prayer

participation in the works of justice and service to the poor

the fulfillment of our human obligations in family and society , and

active practice of love for God and neighbor1

Message from the Parish Council President

I would like to wish everyone a Happy and Prosperous New Year. I am sure 2011will hold many great opportunities for us to grow in our Catholic faith and findnew ways to give back to our families, parish and communities. I know that St.Michaels Parish is full of talent and has a wealth of senior Church leadership thatwill help direct each of us down the right path to success.

Our Priests, Deacons, Musicians, Parish Life Coordinator, Religious Educators(RE), Military Council of Catholic Women (MCCW) Knights of Columbus (KoC),Eucharistic Ministers, Lectors, Ushers (and the list goes on) are all dedicated to

living as Christ did. That is, they each find ways to give of themselves, spread thegood news, make use of the gifts of the Holy Spirit, and find ways to perform cor-poral and spiritual works of mercy.

Our Parish will provide many great opportunities for seekers of Christ as our programs continimprove and grow.

I look forward to getting to know each of you better and learning how I can better serve you Parish Council President. If you have any ideas, please feel free to let me know.

    Pray the Rosary

The Fifteen Promises of Mary to Christians Who Recite the Rosary

    1. Whoever shall faithfully serve me by the recitation of the Rosary, shall receive signal graces.

    2. I promise my special protection and the greatest graces to all those who shall recite the Rosary.

    3. The Rosary shall be a powerful armor against hell, it will destroy vice, decrease sin, and defeat heresies.

    4. It will cause virtue and good works to flourish; it will obtain for souls the abundant mercy of God; it will withdraw the hearts of men frolove of the world and its vanities, and will lift them to the desire of eternal things. Oh, that souls would sanctify themselves by this mean

    5. The soul which recommends itself to me by the recitation of the Rosary, shall not perish.

    6. Whoever shall recite the Rosary devoutly, applying himself to the consideration of its sacred mysteries shall never be conquered by mtune. God will not chastise him in His justice, he shall not perish by an un-provided death; if he be just he shall remain in the grace o

and become worthy of eternal life.

    7. Whoever shall have a true devotion for the Rosary shall not die without the sacraments of the Church.

    8. Those who are faithful to recite the Rosary shall have during their life and at their deaththe light of God and the plentitude of His graces; at the moment of death they shall par-

ticipate in the merits of the saints in paradise.

    9. I shall deliver from purgatory those who have been devoted to the Rosary.

    10. The faithful children of the Rosary shall merit a high degree of glory in heaven.

    11. You shall obtain all you ask of me by the recitation of the Rosary.

    12. All those who propagate the holy Rosary shall be aided by me in their necessities.

    13. I have obtained from my Divine Son that all the advocates of the Rosary shall have for intercessors the entire celestial court during th

and at the hour of death.

    14. All who recite the Rosary are my sons, and brothers of my only Son Jesus Christ.

    15. Devotion of my Rosary is a great sign of predestination.

Pride is Evil in the Sight of God

" In his pride the wicked does not seek him; in all his thoughts there is no room for God."(Psalm 10:4

The number one evil in God's black book is pride. It is important to note that pride can be interpreted in twoways: personal gratification for a job well done, or the dreadful deadly sin of "the competitive and excessive

belief in one's own abilities that interferes with the individual's recognition of the grace of God."

God's opinion in Proverbs 8:13 makes clear that He severely frowns on pride. "The fear of the Lord is to hateevil; Pride and arrogance and the evil way and the perverse mouth I hate." It was the very thing that rocked theheavenly realm long ago, altering God's original plans and introducing to mankind a surefire way to hell.

    The sin of Lucifer is clearly spelled out in two sections of scrip-ture: Isaiah chapter 14 and Ezekiel chapter 28. Referring to Luci-fer's mutiny, it is written: "For you have said in your heart: I willascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God;

I will also sit on the mount of the congregation on the farthestsides of the north; I will ascend above the heights of the clouds, I

will be like the Most High. Your heart was lifted up because of your beauty; you corrupted your wisdom for the sake of yoursplendor."And nothing has been quite right since.

Regarding pride, early Italian Catholic Priest Thomas Aquinas

wrote that inordinate self-love is the cause of every sin. This wasinitially epitomized by Lucifer, and he has employed it successfully manity for thousands of years, steering people away from the one trholy God. As Proverbs 10:4 teaches, the one influenced by the adversa false sense of complete self-sufficiency, and therefore he will nGod, His will, His way or His wisdom, believing erroneously therneed for God - in all his thoughts there is no room for God.

A notorious example of pride is Jezebel, the evil queen and wife ofthe abominable king of Israel in the peak years of its deterioration. Daof a High Priest of Baal, Jezebel re-instated Baal worship in Israel aher husband by the nose to do the same. She had many of God's p

executed and replaced them with hundreds of false prophets, surrounding the king and herself with devilish counsel.

Jezebel had an innocent man murdered to acquire a vineyard for Ahab. She threatened the life of God's prophet, Elija

her name is mentioned in the book of Revelation representing a false prophetess seducing and misleading God's into evil. Jezebel's demise was horrific. She literally became dog food.

Proverbs states that when pride comes in, so does shame and strife. But perhaps the most quoted (and misquotedregarding pride is found in chapter 16, verse 18: "Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a falcannot get through to the proud person, but requires humility, surrender and submission, which prepares a personceive from Him the buffet of blessings He desires to bountifully bestow.
