PAW PRINT Mahanoy Area Middle School Summer 2017 Variously known as the Fourth of July and Independence Day, July 4th has been a federal hol-iday in the United States since 1941, but the tradition of In-dependence Day celebrations goes back to the 18th century and the American Revolution (1775-83). In June 1776, rep-resentatives of the 13 colonies then fighting in the revolutionary struggle weighed a reso-lution that would declare their independence

Get the facts on how America’s birthday is celebratedfrom Great Britain. On July 2nd, the Continental Congress voted in favor of independence, and two days later its delegates adopted the Declaration of Independence, a historic document drafted by Thomas Jefferson. From 1776 until the present day, July 4th has been celebrated as the birth of American

independence, with typical festivities ranging from fireworks, parades and concerts to more casual family gatherings and barbecues.

By: Mia Hernandez, Emily Milewski, Abagail FryeWe interviewed the fifth grade teachers about summer, also, about where they are going for vacation this sum-mer. The teachers we interviewed are Mrs. Cavenas, Mr. Zack, Miss. Kesselring, Miss. Linkchorst, and Mrs. Hogeland. It was really fun. This is what they said. The first teacher is Mrs.Cavenas. The first thing we asked her was “What do you like to do over the sum-mer?” She replied that she enjoys spending time with her children and family. Next, we asked her where she is going on vacation this summer. She said this year she is going to South Bethany Beach in Delaware. The last question we asked her was would you rather go to the beach or go camping. She replied she enjoys both, but if she had to choose, she would pick the beach. The second teacher we interviewed was Mr. Zack. The first thing we asked him was “What do you like about summer?” He replied the heat and sunshine, also doing work outside and spending time with family and friends. Next, we asked if he goes camping in the summer. He replied yes, his parents have an RV and we go to places like Davin Lake, fishing/crabbing on the Chesapeake Bay, and sometimes Knoebels. The last question we asked him is “Where are you going for vacation?” He replied he is probably going to the beach and he hopes to take his son to Disneyworld over Christmas break. The third teacher we interviewed was Miss Kes-selring. The first question we asked her was “Where are you going to vacation this year?” She replied she is going to Wildwood, New Jersey. The next question we asked her was “Do you like going to amusement parks?” She replied, yes. She said she loves amusement

parks. She likes roller coasters and pretty much every ride at Knoebels. She said she loves going especially on the middle school field trip because that is the time when everyone is happy and when they enjoy them-selves. Her favorite ride might have to be the Antique Cars. She doesn’t know what she enjoys about it, but she makes sure she goes on it every time. Last, but not least, we asked her if she goes to water parks. She said she goes to amusement parks with water parks, but she never goes to the water components of the park. She said that she heard about the new indoor water park which sounds really interesting to her, but she never went to it. The forth teacher we have is Miss.Linkchorst. The first question we asked her was where she was going for vacation. She replied, “I will most likely be going to a beach in Delaware or taking a trip to North Carolina.” The other question we asked her was if she has ever gone on a cruise. She replied, “No, not yet, but I would like to someday.” The last question we asked was if she ever went to a summer camp as a kid. She replied, “I did go to volleyball and basketball camp when I was younger. They were held at Mahanoy Area.”The last teacher we interviewed was Mrs.Hogeland. The first question we ask her was if she wished summer was all year long. She replied “No, I do not enjoy hot weather.” The second question we asked her was where she is going on vacation. She replied, “My family and I are going to New Jersey.” The last question was “What do you like best about summer?” She replied, “I get to have a break from work and can relax.”
