Paul Stoller, environmental designer, Atelier Ten Australia is taking part in the following talks at Melbourne's Mpavilion this Saturday 30 Jan, and Monday 1 February 2016: Sat 30 Jan 2016, 8.00pm–10.30pm MRELAY, PART 4: UTOPIA The last session of the marathon conversation featuring thirty-two speakers is hosted Michael Williams, director of the Wheeler Centre. It can often be difficult to face the reality of today’s world, where global climate change is leading to rising sea levels, unprecedented environmental destruction, a widening gap between rich and poor, and countless human rights violations.

In his 1516 treatise Utopia, Sir Thomas More imagined a fictional island society. But the concept of utopia has evolved to mean any community with a visionary system of political and societal perfection – cities that function to improve their citizens’ daily lives. Some utopian visions focus on design and technology, others on open, untouched landscapes, or new social orders. Can radically avant-garde and cutting-edge design unite us? How do we help solve the world’s problems and society’s dilemmas?

Speakers include founding director of Breathe Architecture Jeremy McLeod; dancer and performer Becky Hi lton; strategic adviser, theologian and master of Ormond College Rufus Black; artist and writer Aurel ia Guo; landscape architect and managing director of Atelier Ten’s Australian office Paul Stol ler; and medical anthropologist Gregory Phi l l ips, who currently consults in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health in his role as executive director of Abstarr Consulting.

In this special MTalks event, moderated by RMIT Design Hub curator Fleur Watson and presented by the GREAT Britain campaign, the British Council and MPavilion, Oluwaseyi will be joined by Paul Stol ler, managing director of Atelier Ten’s Australian office. As design consultants and building service engineers, Atelier Ten have worked on large-scale sustainable projects both in Australia (such as the original environmental concepts for Federation Square) and overseas (including Singapore’s 101-hectare Gardens by the

Bay), while Paul himself has been recognised by the US Green Building Council for his leadership in environmental design.
