Guest PerformersJeanne Yang, harpsichord, currently a second year doctoral student at the University of Alberta. Previous studies include a Master of Music in piano from McGill University, Master of Music in trumpet from the University of British Columbia, and a Master of Veterinary Medicine in Animal Welfare from National Taiwan University. Jeanne is the most recent recipient of the Alberta Baroque Ensemble Scholarship at the University of Alberta.
Ronda Metszies was born and raised in Edmonton, where she studied cello with Sheila Laughton. After receiving her Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Victoria, she continued her studies in Edmonton with Tanya Prochazka and then in Germany and Austria, where she worked with Julius Berger, Friedrich Sellheim and Heinrich Schiff. Before moving back to Edmonton, she was living in Los Angeles, where she performed regularly at the University of Southern California and in several local chamber music recital series. In addition to playing with the ESO, Ronda has a special interest in early music. She has appeared as a featured soloist with both the Edmonton Symphony and the Alberta Baroque Ensemble.
Lidia Khaner has performed as Principal Oboe with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra since 1996. She studied oboe in her native Poland at the Warsaw Academy of Music and graduated With Distinction in 1987. As a member of the Sinfonia Varsovia and the Polish Chamber Orchestra she toured the world playing both orchestral parts and solo concerts. During a sabbatical she studied in Germany at the Stuttgart Hochshule fur Musik with Ingo Goritzki and played with the Deutsche Kammerakademie. Lidia has performed and recorded solo concerti with the Alberta Baroque Ensemble and soloed with the Edmonton Symphony and the Edmonton Chamber Orchestras.
Daniel Waldron graduated from the Artist Diploma program of the Glenn Gould School of the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto, and holds a Bachelor of Music degree from Wilfrid Laurier University. His oboe teachers were James Mason and Richard Dorsey.In 2010 he attended the Tafelmusik Baroque Summer Institute. Daniel is an alumnus of the National Academy Orchestra and the National Youth Orchestra of Canada. A native of Edinburgh, Scotland, Daniel spent his childhood and teenage years in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He lives in Edmonton with his wife Chelsea, and performs with the Edmonton Symphony as a casual musician.
A native of East Angus, Québec, Robin Doyon was appointed Principal Tumpet of the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra in September 2008. He received his Bachelor and Master’s degrees in Classical Interpretation at the University of Montréal with Jean-Luc Gagnon. He has studied with many masters of the trumpet, including Allen Vizzutti, Jens Lindemann, and James Thompson. In 2002 he was Laureate of the National Music Festival, the Montréal Symphony Orchestra Competition, and the Radio-Canada Young Artists Competition.
