San Diego Children’s Film Maker Workshop

A Popcorny Project

What San Diego needs.San Diego has many Community Theaters and Children’s Theaters. There are also several Film Festivals in San Diego County. I think something that is missing is a Film and TV workshop for kids. I was lucky as a kid and the schools I attended had TV and Film programs. Many schools don’t have the funding for these programs. This could be a Not For Profit Workshop in which kids from all economic demographics could apply.

What San Diego Needs The workshop would offer many aspects of film making to include script writing, filming, lighting and sound, editing and directing. Age levels would start at 12 (Middle school Age) and go up to 18. The applicants would submit an idea for a project and would be grouped with other kids their age to work on their projects as a team. This would give each member a chance to work in different roles on each project.

What San Diego Needs

To get the project started and keep it running we will need to put together a Start Up fund raiser and then organize a way to continue to bring in funds through screening of the projects and school events.

Building the Team

For our team building exercise we will each tell a story about our best and worst moments in our professional careers. This will give each other some insight into what drives as and show a little vulnerability. The combination should develop an amount of trust within the group.

Danny DeVito’s Job

Relying on his diverse experiences in all aspects of the TV and Film industry he will be developing the curriculum for the school and staffing.

Michael Jacobs’ Job

His strongest asset is his knowledge of production. He will be in charge of the business model for the school. Creating inventory of what we will need to get started and what we will need to stay open.

Jessica Simpson’s JobShe will be the face to the potential donors. She has experience working with NPO’s and brings a sense of goodwill to the project. She would also be our best option for a spokes person when it comes time to advertise the program.

This is a very strong team. They all have lots of experience in the areas they have been assigned. In the beginning the will be a lot participative leadership. We will have group meetings to brainstorm and discuss how we will approach this project. Once I know we are all on the same page I would adopt a more delegation style and let the team members handle their jobs the way they feel is best and we would continue to have periodic meetings to track progress.

This has been a popcorny Production.
