In its Transport White Paper of September 2001, the Commission proposed the development of Motorways of theCommission proposed the development of Motorways of the Sea as a “real competitive alternative to land transport”

The “motorways of the sea” concept aims at introducing new intermodal maritime-based logistics chains inbased logistics chains in Europe, which should bring about a structural change in our transport organisation within the next years to come.

Continuation of the Action with a graded approachapproach

If the service is upgraded before the end of the Action then the Action isIf the service is upgraded before the end of the Action then the Action is considered to be completed as foreseen (receiving support as foreseen in the Decision)- even if the upgraded service is introduced later than foreseen in the Decision,foreseen in the Decision,

If freight volumes pick up on the corridor, but the maritime service is not upgraded (or even stops) then give 10% support to the action, i.e. pg ( p ) g pp ,similar to an annual project eligible for 10% support, unless it is duly demonstrated why the maritime service has not been able to attract “its” share of increased freight volumes.

If freight volumes do not pick during the lifetime of the Action and the service is not upgraded or even stops then give support as foreseen in the decision – this would be considered as “force majeure”

Zeebrugge: Construction of a new RoRo jetty at the Brittanniadockthe Brittanniadock

A dam with a length of 425 m will be realized in order to reclaim an extrarealized in order to reclaim an extra area of +/- 11,5 ha .

In front of the dam the construction of a new jetty for short sea rorovessels is foreseen.

The construction of the jetty will create additional capacity and reduce waiting time of ships.
