Graduation Indicator
On My Blueprint, students can view the Graduation Indicator to see what credits have been earned and what is outstanding.
If you plan to take COOP, those are holding codes and don’t get counted until you are in the course and then the holding code is changed to a real code.
Under Pathways Eligibility, students can see their post-secondary options based on their current courses and course selection.

● A total of 40 hours are required for graduation
● Only activities that involve volunteering for non-profit organizations in the community are eligible
● Guidance is only recording up to 40 hours. Link for the form and guidelines.
● More than 40 hours students can use toward future resumes, scholarships and university applications
Community Involvement During PandemicThe following opportunities will be considered eligible for the 2020-2021 school year; at the principal’s discretion, schools may waive the restrictions that do not allow students to earn hours:
● During the time allotted for the instructional program on a school day; or
● For duties normally performed in the home (e.g., walking a younger sibling to/from school, helping younger siblings with school work).
● Students aged 14 years and older can count up to a maximum of 10 hours from paid employment towards their earned hours.
● Students counting paid employment towards their graduation requirement will be required to complete a reflection exercise indicating how their work contributed to the service for others.
● All questions should be directed to your Guidance Counsellor
Pre-approval Process:Students who need approval for a volunteer opportunity can email their alpha counsellor. Make sure to include the name of the organization, the supervisor name and phone number in the email.
Submitting Hours:Students fill out the Community Involvement form, scan the form and email the scanned form to your guidance counsellor. Students can use their smartphones to scan the form.

What is a Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM)?
Specialist High Skills Majors let students focus on a career path that matches their skills and interests while meeting the requirements of the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD). Students complete a bundle of courses and gain valuable work experience through Co-op. SHSM programs lead to all post-secondary pathways – university, college, apprenticeship, and the workplace.
At Bayview Secondary School, we offer three SHSM Sectors: Business, Health & Wellness and Non-Profit. Students can apply to be part of our SHSM program in their Grade 10 year for completion in Grade 11 and 12.
How is a Specialist High Skills Major recognized?
Students who successfully complete a SHSM will receive: • an Ontario Secondary School Diploma with an embossed SHSM seal • a SHSM Record documenting their achievement • formal recognition on their Ontario Student Transcript.

Post-Secondary Pathways
College Pathway● College offer Apprenticeships, Certificates, Diplomas,
Advanced Diplomas, Joint Degrees & Bachelor Degrees
● Programs provide a combination of academic and
practical and technical skills training for a specific career
● Over 1000 programs to choose from including: ○ Aviation; Business Administration
○ Pre-Health, Paramedic, Nursing
○ Animation, Graphic Design
○ Computer Programming, Engineering Technology
○ Social Services, Police Foundation, Firefighter
○ Specialized Arts Program - Theatre, Music
○ Trades: Automotive; Construction; Plumbing
● Most programs have a co-op placement that may be a
paid placement.

Switching Between College & University
● Agreements between colleges and universities allow students to earn a degree and a diploma in four years.
● Attending college for a year or two can help you build self-awareness and knowledge of desired career.
● There are many programs that let you
transfer from college to university
University Pathway● Universities offer 4 year bachelor degrees
● Programs provide theoretical and some practical training

Ways to do your research
Use My Blueprint to do your post-secondary research. Not sure what to study? Then complete the Who Am I surveys that match you to a variety of careers.
You can go directly to the Post-Secondary tab to research programs and schools in Ontario, across Canada & the U.S.
Visit the Guidance Page and go to the Post-Secondary Education tab to do research on Apprenticeships, College and University.
Course Selection using myBlueprint Tool
Step 1: Visit YRDSB
Step 2: Click onto My Pathway Planner
Step 3: Use your GAPPS login & password
Go to: High School to view your Plan and Courses
Click on Courses to view course calendar
Students can search by grade and discipline or by typing in the course code.
Students can use the Course Selection Resource to look up course name and codes.
Course Selection Resources
Click on the + to select course type.
Select the correct science course.
Students in the IB Programme can find IB courses in the IB Diploma subfolders.
When you click on a course, the description pops up. Select the correct course - ADD COURSE.
Under most disciplines there will be an IB folder called IB Diploma.
Careers Studies/Civics (CIVCAR) Package in its own discipline
TOK/French Package in its own Discipline
Click onto Course and scroll to the bottom to find the Discipline called: Theory of Knowledge/French Package IB. Then choose the Grade 11 or 12 TOK/French Package.
Can’t find a course?
Courses are listed based on the disciplines in the Ministry Curriculum Documents.
For example:
● The Arts: ○ Drama / Music / Visual Arts
● Canadian and World Studies: ○ Business (Economics and Law) / Geography /
History
● Classical Studies & International Languages:

Alternates
You must pick 3 Alternates. There is NO guarantee you will get all your optional choices.
Planning to take a course in Summer School? Click on Summer School Plan and fill out form. You will STILL need to enrol in summer school when it opens.
Not Returning
Click on “Not returning next year?” then a box will pop up and select “Destination”.
Not Returning
Grade 12 students MUST complete the SURVEY.
Important Final Items
● Do your RESEARCH. Do not choose what your friends are choosing.
● Grades 9 & 10 cannot drop a course. If you reached ahead and not
getting a good mark cannot drop the course.
● Grade 10 students do not choose a third science course that you intend
to take as an IB science course. The third science will be an OSSD credit.
● There are no spares in grade 11 and 12 IB
● IB Courses in myBlueprint can be found under IB Diploma
● HL Courses end with a ‘Z’ SBI3UZ
● SL Courses end with a ‘7’ SBI3U7 except the second half of the
TOK/French combo which ends with a ‘z’
● Grade 11 IB students do not need to pick alternates. You can still submit
even with the warning.
Course Selection Important Dates & Info
● Courses are not guaranteed. Alternate courses may be used. The IB
coordinator will contact you if an alternate science course is used.
● You can start going on to My Pathway Planner to select courses
● Students can begin submitting courses February 16 to February 24● Grade 11 IBs who do not submit their course selection, Guidance will
assume you are not returning to Bayview. You will be demitted.
● Students considering dropping IB must speak to Ms. Joffe. Do not simply
choose OSSD courses without informing the school you intend not to
continue with the IB diploma.
