Pathophysiology of Gastritis
Predisposing Factors:
Dietary Indiscretion (the personeats food that is contaminatedthe disease causing bacteria)
Excessive alcohol IntakeIngestion of strong Acid or alkali
(more severe form; causesmucosa to becomegangrenous)
Precipitating Factors:
Overuse of aspirin and other non-steroidal anti-inflamatory drugs.
Bile refluxRadiation Therapy
Gastric mucous membrane becomes edematous and hyperemic(congested with blood and fluid)
Gastric mucous membrane undergoes superficial obstruction
Scanty amount of gastric juices is secreted with very little acidbut much mucus.
Superficial Ulceration
Signs and Symptoms
AnorexiaAbdominal discomfortHeadachehiccuping
DiarrheaNauseaVomiting
If treated:
Patient recovers within 24 hrs.,although the appetite maybediminished for an additional of 2-3days.
If not treated:
GI bleeding
Shock
Death
