Pastor’s Weekly Word:
“ Greener Pastures”
* This devotion was extracted from our current message series.
To discover more of God’s goodness join us every Sunday at 10:30
Sometimes, we want God to take us out of a circumstance,
or we desire that God just fix things. However, it is as we walk
through our discomfort that God changes and transforms us. It’s like
the familiar saying “the grass is greener on the other side”. So if this
grass is in fact greener are we just to rip it up and start over? Some-
times we need to take drastic measures, and we mostly need to
take an inventory to discover why the grass is greener elsewhere.
Could it be that other pastures really aren't as healthy as
you thought when you closely examine your neighbors lawn? If you
look close enough everyone has some areas where nothing seems to
grow or prosper. If the grass is greener, also consider that maybe its
fake. We often try to compare other people’s highlight reel to our
bloopers. We might need to change our perspective. Maybe the
grass is greener because your neighbor receives help from a land-
scaper or fertilizing company. We all need to know when to get help,
and there is no shame in receiving help. My children look at my
neighbor’s lawn, and say “why does his grass look so nice and
green?” If my neighbor’s lawn is greener then maybe I need to plant
some new seeds, aerate the soil, fertilize and water my lawn more
often. Simply, we cannot grow discouraged because of a situation,
or how it seems others may be doing. If we see areas that are not as
healthy and productive in our life, then possibly God is calling us to
tend the areas that He has entrusted to our care. Often, we must go
through what God allows to become the person that He desires us to
be. It’s truth that sets us free, and like with the grass, we need to
step back and learn where God wants us to grow, improve and excel.
“Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts.”
- Psalm 139:23
