My Friends in the Lord Jesus,
Pentecost Sunday! The joy of the Holy Spirit! It has been fifty days since Easter Sunday, and for that many days we have celebrated in particular fashion the Paschal Mystery - the death, resurrection, and ascension of the Lord, and the descent of the Holy Spirit. Today, with this Solemnity of Pentecost, we draw to a close our celebration of Easter.
However, in today’s gospel passage from the Gospel according to John, we are invited back to Easter Sunday. Easter is united to Pentecost because throughout the fifty days of the Easter season, we celebrate the saving act of God in the Paschal event of the Lord Jesus Christ. “On the evening of the first day of the week, even though the doors were locked, where the disciples were, for fear…Jesus came and stood in their midst and said to them, Peace be with you…He showed them his hands and his side…’As the Father has sent me, so I send you.’ And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, ‘Receive the Holy Spirit.’”
Pentecost is a celebration of our commission by the risen Lord. The Holy Spirit empowers us to witness to what we have celebrated over these past fifty days: the saving, forgiving, reconciling and compassionate love of God for all people. We are witnesses of this truth. As witnesses we give our best testimony, not so much by our words, but by our actions. That is, we are to bring to others forgiveness, reconciliation, and compassion. We are ambassadors for God, disciples of Jesus, doing divine, grace filled work of forgiveness and mercy. “As the Father has sent me, so I send you.”
The Easter Season may end today, but our work for the Gospel, our ministry in the name of Christ Jesus, continues. We promote peace as we work for Justice, we strive to unite and end division, we pray for and dedicate ourselves to an end to war, violence and all that which divides peoples. We uphold and proclaim the dignity of all life, the sanctity of Marriage, and encourage faith in God. We do so, not alone or by our own efforts, but by the power and gifts of the Holy Spirit, “Jesus breathed on them and said to them, ‘Receive the Holy Spirit.’”
So we pray to the Holy Spirit, “O most blessed Light divine, shine within these hearts of yours, and our inmost being fill…Heal our wounds, our strength renew; on our dryness pour your dew; wash the stains of guilt away: bend the stubborn heart and will; melt the frozen, warm the chill; guide the steps that go astray. On the faithful, who adore and confess you, evermore in your sevenfold gift descend; give them virtue’s sure reward; give them salvation, Lord; give them joys that never end.” Amen. Alleluia.
Happy and joyful Pentecost!

Pentecost Sunday
“To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.” (1 CORINTHIANS 12:7)
To receive the gift of the Holy Spirit you must open your heart and let Him in! Open your heart and be grateful for all the gifts God has given us. Regardless of your circumstance, God has given us all blessings. What we do with those gifts is our gift back to God. Generously shar-ing our gifts keeps us more “God-centered” and less “self-centered”.
Please pray for the sick, suffering & shut-ins of our parish. Keep them in your daily prayers that when they are physically weak, they will have the strength of God and His love.
Praying With Our Parish Please remember in your prayers …
