I am with you alwaysThe Ascension of Christ is celebrated 40 days after Easter. It focuses upon theascent of Christ into heaven shortly before Pentecost.
The Ascension is important to Christians because it reminds us that while Christ’shuman body could not be present everywhere, Christ’s spiritual presence can beexperienced universally. St. Matthew’s Gospel tells us Christ’s last words to hisfriends were, “Remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age” (Matthew28:20 NRSV). And so Christ is!

Greetings from the Piecemakers( the Wednesday Quilters)
Thanks to all for your donations (including monetary gifts), we have lots of material but arealways in need of batting. Old blankets, bedspreads and mattress covers work great. Theyneed to be washed but stains are ok since we cover them up. So far we finished 1100blankets. Just think how many people receive some warmth and a loving hug when they wrap them-selves into one of our creations.
Anyone interested in giving us a hand or just come and visit is more than welcome. We meet every Wednesday (weather permitting) in St. Marks Social Hall from 9:00 to 12:00.For more information please call Linda Moret at 570-559-7257 or Ingrid Vogel at 570-559-7206.

God is nighThe simple but powerful bugle melody “Taps” has been astandard component of U.S. military funerals since 1891.It’s also played during each of the 2,500 military wreathceremonies conducted every year at the Tomb of the UnknownSoldier, including those held on Memorial Day.
Many legends exist about the origin of “Taps” — both itsmelody and its lyrics. The words below, by Horace LorenzoTrim, make an appropriate bedtime prayer.
Day is done, gone the sunFrom the lakes, from the hills, from the skyAll is well, safely restGod is nigh.
Fading light dims the sightAnd a star gems the sky, gleaming brightFrom afar, drawing nearFalls the night.
Thanks and praise for our days’Neath the sun, ’neath the stars, ’neath the skyAs we go, this we knowGod is nigh.
May 1st at Pond Eddy UMC, there will be an Ecumenical Service of Prayer
and Christian Unity at 7:00 p.m. sponsored by the Bridgepoint Clergy
Association.
We are going to have supper at 6:00 pm in the Fellowship Hall and then go
into the service and then afterwards have dessert and fellowship. Everyone is
invited to the dinner (it will be more like supper). Some people might want
to come straight from work and that would be fine...
Pentecost, the church's birthday
Pentecost was originally a Jewish harvest festival when the first fruits of crops were given asofferings to God. On the first Pentecost after Jesus’ resurrection, the Holy Spirit came upon Jesus’followers. They were filled with power and love, thus empowering them to witness to God’s actionsin Christ to all who were nearby. Some 3,000 people responded to their claims that Christ was Lordand Savior of mankind. The outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon Jesus’ first followers on the day of Pentecost is often calledthe Church’s birthday. You can read the entire story in Acts 2.
