Seven Major Feasts - Represent Ministry of Reconciliation

Spring Feasts (1st Coming)

Passover (Initial Salvation Experience) (Ephesians 2:7-9)

Passover (Leviticus 23:5) pointed to the Messiah as our Passover lamb (1 Corinthians 5:7) whose blood

would be shed for our sins. Jesus was crucified on the day of preparation for the Passover at the same

hour that the lambs were being slaughtered for the Passover meal that evening (John 19:31).

Unleavened Bread (Remove all sin from our lives) (2 Corinthians 6:17)

Unleavened Bread (Leviticus 23:6) pointed to the Messiah's sinless life (as leaven is a picture of sin in the

Bible), making Him the perfect sacrifice for our sins (2 Corinthians 5:21). Jesus' body was in the grave

during the first days of this feast, like a kernel of wheat planted and waiting to burst forth as the bread

of life (John 12:23-25, Romans 8:3).

First Fruits (We are buried with Him unto death to be raised to new life) (Romans 6:4)

First Fruits (Leviticus 23:10) pointed to the Messiah's resurrection as the first fruits of the righteous.

Jesus was resurrected on this very day, which is one of the primary reasons that the Apostle Paul refers

to him in (1 Corinthians 15:20) as the "first fruits from the dead."

Pentecost (Filled with the Holy Spirit; Anointed & Empowered for Service) (Ephesians 5:18-20)

Feast of Weeks or Pentecost (Leviticus 23:16) occurred fifty days after the beginning of the Feast of

Unleavened Bread and pointed to the great harvest of souls and the gift of the Holy Spirit for both Jew

and Gentile, who would be brought into the kingdom of God during the Church Age ( Acts 2). The Church

was actually established on this day when God poured out His Holy Spirit and 3,000 Jews responded to

Peter's great sermon and his first proclamation of the gospel.

Fall Feasts (2nd Coming)

Trumpets (We are called to meet Him in the air; the in-gathering; we are changed)(1 Corinthians 15:52)

Trumpets (Leviticus 23:24) is the first of the fall feasts which points to the catching up of the Church

when the Messiah, Jesus, appears in the heavens as He comes for His bride, the Church. The catching up

of the Church, commonly referred to as the Rapture, is associated in Scripture with the blowing of a loud

trumpet; It’s that time when corruption puts on incorruption and we know as we are known;

1Thessalonians 4:13-18 - 1Corinthians 15:52 - Revelation 10:7;

Atonement (We return with Christ to the earth) (Zechariah 14:5, Matthew 25:31)

Day of Atonement (Leviticus 23:27) prophetically points to the day of the Second Coming of Jesus when

He will return to earth. That will be the Day of Atonement for the Jewish remnant when they "look upon

Him whom they have pierced," repent of their sins, and receive Him as their Messiah (Zechariah 12:10,

Romans 11:1-6, 25-36).

Tabernacles (God dwells with His people in the New Heavens and New Earth)

Tabernacles or Booths (Leviticus 23:34) points to the Lord's promise that He will once again “tabernacle”

with His people when He returns to reign over all the world (Micah 4:1-7, Jeremiah 31:32-34, Leviticus

26:11-13, 2 Corinthians 6:16); Beware of this warning - Deuteronomy 23:14, Isaiah 59:1-3.

New Testament Christians and the Levitical Feasts

Colossians 2:16-17 tells us, “Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with

regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day. These are a shadow of the

things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ.” Christians are not bound to observe

the Jewish feasts the way an Old Testament Jew was, but we should not criticize another believer who

does or does not observe these special days and feasts (Romans 14:5).

While it is not required for Christians to celebrate the Jewish feast days, it is beneficial to study them. As

Christians, if we choose to celebrate these special days, we should put Christ in the center of the

celebration, as the One who came to fulfill the prophetic significance of each of them.

Exodus Introduction - Ministry of Reconciliation!

As Genesis is the book of new beginnings, Exodus is the book of redemption. The deliverance of

the oppressed Israelites out of the hand Egypt is type and shadow of God’s Plan of Redemption

for all people. The rigors of bondage in Egypt (which represents the world) and the harshness of

Pharaoh (which represents Satan) call forth the 40 year preparation of the deliverer Moses

(which represents Christ) (2.1-4.31). The contest with the oppressor (5.1-11.10) eventuates in

the departure of the Hebrews from Egypt. They are redeemed by the Blood of the Passover

Lamb - and - by the Power of the Lord culminating in their passage through the Red Sea (which

represents being translated out of the kingdom of darkness into the Kingdom of Light) (13.1-

14.31). Their redemption is celebrated by the singing of the triumphant song of the redeemed

(15.1-21). This is followed by their testing in the wilderness (which represents being brought to

the end of ourselves and the development of faith and obedience) (15.22-18.27). At Mount

Sinai the redeemed nation accepts the Law (19.21-31.18). Their failure to rely upon the grace of

God leads to the breaking of the Law, condemnation and God’s judgment (21.1-34.35). God’s

grace ultimately triumphs in the giving of the tabernacle, the priesthood, the sacrifices and the

feasts, whereby the redeemed nation could once again worship and fellowship with their

Redeemer (36.1-40.38).

Passover Celebrated by the Body of Christ Today

““TThhiiss DDoo IInn RReemmeemmbbrraannccee ooff MMee””

1 Corinthians 10:11 Examples for us

Now all these things happened unto them for examples: and they are written for our

admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.

Isaiah 56:8 God said I will gather others

The Lord God, which gathereth the outcasts of Israel saith, Yet will I gather others to him,

John 10:16 Jesus said I have another flock

And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear

my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.

Ephesians 2:11-15 Commonwealth of Israel - One New Man

Wherefore remember, that ye being in time past Gentiles in the flesh, who are called

Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands; That at that

time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from

the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world: But now in Christ

Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ. For he is our peace,

who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us;

Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in

ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace;

Four Cups of Wine shared during Passover Exodus 6:6-8 (Four “I Will’s)

We drink from only one cup four different times during the Passover celebration;

“I am the Lord, and I will bring you out from under the yoke of the Egyptians. I will free you

from being slaves to them, and I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with mighty

acts of judgment. I will take you as My own people and I will be your God. Then you will

know that I am the Lord your God, who brought you out from under the yoke of the Egyptians.”

1. Lighting of the Festival Candles;

This formally begins the celebration of Passover;

Mother will take the Haggadah Book - “The Telling” - reads a prayer while lighting the candles;

“Blessed art thou Oh God, King of the Universe, who has sanctified us by His word and has

commanded us to light the lights of Passover.” Jesus is the Light of the World - John 8:12; A

virgin gave birth to the Light - Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:22-23; Luke 2:32; Jesus - Matthew 5:16;

Isaiah 42:6.

2. A blessing is said over the first of four cups of wine.

A. Cup of Sanctification; “Kiddish” It is to commemorate God’s promise: “I will bring you out.”

“Blessed art thou Oh Lord our God King of the Universe Creator of the Fruit of the Vine.”

Jesus drank this cup of wine with His disciples - Luke 22:15-20. The first cup represents being

brought out of the world and out of spiritual slavery to sin and the fear of death; The first

benefit being Ephesians 2:15-17; The second benefit being Romans 8:1-3; 2Coorinthians 10:3-5.

3. The host washes his hands; Represents his service to God and his family;

Holiness - Isaiah 1:16-20 James 4:8 Psalm 24:1-4 Service - Matthew 23:11 Luke 22:26

4. Unleavened Bread - Matzoh - Introduced;

Jewish Tradition

The Matzoh reminds us of the bread that was baked in a rush to leave Egypt.

Bread of Affliction - Symbolizes “Sinless Life” Isaiah 53:5

Flat due to no yeast, Pierced before baking, Baked on rack in high heat causing stripes;

Three flat pieces that will be consumed during the Passover celebration at different times;

Matzoh Tosh - Matzoh (Unleavened Bread) Tosh (Bag);

This bag contains three compartments; each for a piece of unleavened bread that will be

consumed during the Passover celebration; The three compartments represents the “Father”,

the “Son” and the “Holy Spirit”; The Unity of the Triune God;

The middle piece of three Matzoh is broken in two.

One of the broken halves is hidden until after the meal.

Jesus said: “I am the Bread of Life.” John 6:48

5. Unleavened Bread - Matzoh - Broken Half Hidden;

The Hidden Matzoh - Afikoman (meaning “it comes later”)

The middle piece is broken in two and one half is placed in a linen bag or cloth and it is hidden

during the Passover meal where it is left for one of the children to find (it is referred to as

“buried”); The Passover meal cannot be completed until the second half of the middle piece is

located; Toward the end of the meal, the head of the house will tell the children to go and

search for the Afikoman; the child that finds it is rewarded with a gift; The head of the house

breaks the bread into small pieces and shares a piece with each person seated at the table;

Children - Matthew 19:14 - Mark 10:15 Jesus - Luke 22:19 - Matthew 26:26

Linen - John 19:38-20:9 Burial - Matthew 12:39-40 - Mark 8:31; 9:31; 10:34 - John 2:19

General - Psalm 16:10 - Psalm 30:3 - Psalm 49:15 - Psalm 118:17

6. The Passover story is told.

Children Participate in Passover

The youngest child will ask the four traditional questions: Father explains Passover to family;

1. On all other nights we eat bread or Matzoh, why on this night do we eat only Matzoh? 2. On

all other nights we eat all kinds of vegetables and herbs, why on this night do we have to eat

bitter herbs? 3. On all other nights we don't dip our vegetables in salt water, but why on this

night do we dip them twice? 4. On all other nights we eat while sitting upright, but on this night

why do we eat reclining?

Matthew 18:3 Mark 10:15 Luke 18:17 1 Peter 1:14 1 Peter 2:2

7. A second cup of wine. Full Cup of Wine represents - “Fullness of Joy”

B. Cup of Plagues; It represents the ten plagues that came upon Egypt; It commemorates

the second promise: “I will free you from being slaves.” Before partaking of the wine (fullness of

joy) we need to be reminded of the suffering of the Egyptians as the result of the plagues that

were brought upon the Egyptians in order to facilitate our redemption; It’s not God’s will that

any perish - 2 Peter 3:9 - 1 Timothy 2:4; We dip our finger in the cup and sprinkle the wine on a

plate once for each of the ten plagues while reciting them out loud together; Blood; Frogs; Lice;

Flies; Cattle Disease; Boils; Hail; Locusts; Darkness; Death of First Born Sons; Each representing

God showing Himself mightier than each of the Egyptian gods.

8. Everyone washes their hands.

Water is poured over the right hand three times and then the left hand three times

and the youngest child presents each guest with a towel for drying; we are each

responsible to be cleansed by the washing of the water of the word;

Why Three Times - All three parts of the Godhead are involved in our sanctification process.

Holiness - Psalm 51:2 - Isaiah 52:11 - Jeremiah 33:8 - 2 Corinthians 6:17 - Ephesians 5:26

Jesus during His last Passover - John 13:3-5 & 12-17 - Luke 22:15-18

9. Bitter herbs are eaten. Maror is Bitterness & Tears;

Element One: Maror - Bitter Herbs - Horseradish - Symbolizes “Tears Shed in Egypt”;

Represents the bitter life and harsh mistreatment experienced by the Hebrews in Egypt;

We break off a piece of the Matzoh Bread and use it to dip out a large helping of Maror to eat;

It causes us to cry strong tears which symbolizes us morning for the bitter treatment that was

experienced by all of our Hebrew ancestors while enslaved in Egyptian bondage.

Jesus during His last Passover - Matthew 26:20-25 - John 13:26 - Luke 22:3-5;

10. Symbolic Elements are eaten.

Element Two: Karpas - Greens - Parsley - Symbolizes “Life”;

Immersed in the water represents our life of difficulty and tears;

Raised up out of the water represents our new life redeemed from tears - John 10:10;

We are to remember and celebrate the mercy and grace of God as we eat the greens together;

Element Three: Charoset - Delicious Sweet Apple Mixture - Honey, Nuts, Raisins, Cinnamon;

Symbolizes “Mortar” used to make bricks for Pharaoh during slavery in Egypt;

Even though the hard work and toil was bitter, even the bitterness of our toils became sweet

as we began to realize that our redemption was drawing nigh - Romans 8:18 - Luke 21-28;

When we break off a piece of the Matzoh Bread and use it to dip out a large helping of Charoset

to eat, its sweetness causes the bitterness in our mouth from the bitter herbs to fade and the

taste in our mouth as we begin to focus on our redemption becomes intensely sweet; It tells

us that even the most bitter things we have to face in our lives today are made palatable

by the sweet presence of the Lord’s Holy Spirit in our life - Philippians 4:13;

Element Four: Chazeret - Bitter Root - Root of the Horseradish - Used to make the Maror -

Symbolizes “The Root of Life is Bitter”;

This reminds us of the bitterness of the life of the Hebrews throughout their stay in Egypt; This

also represents the fact that we are born of sin into a sinful fallen world from which we need

redemption - John 3:16-17;

Element Five: Chagigah - Hard Boiled Egg - Symbolizes “The Passover Temple Sacrifice”;

The hard boiled brown egg is peeled then sliced, then dipped into the salt water before it is

eaten; The egg memorializes the Passover sacrifice of the Pascal Lamb that can no longer be

made at the Temple in Jerusalem; it symbolizes the shedding of tears over the lost sacrifice

itself and the fact that we are no longer celebrating the feast in the Temple in Jerusalem.

Element Six: Z’roah - Shank Bone of a Lamb - Symbolizes

“The Absence of the Passover Lambs in Egypt”;

Because of the unavailability of the Pascal Lambs and our inability to celebrate the Passover on

the Temple Mount in Jerusalem, we are no longer to consume lamb during the Passover; we

are to observe the shank bone and be reminded of the lambs that were so central to the

Passover celebration but are now absent; It reminds you and I to celebrate the true lamb

of God that died and rose again to provide us with eternal redemption - John 1:29;

11. The main meal is eaten. The main course is roasted lamb.

Gefilte fish is often served over lettuce along with Matzoh Ball Soup; Gefilte fish is a type

of meatloaf made of ground fish, onions, a starch, and eggs; which is considered a culinary

delight at Passovers; ‘Fish’ in the Bible is typically associated with the number ‘Seven’ which

is the Sabbath Day on which the Passover is celebrated. Typical meals at Passover will include

beef brisket, roasted chicken or lamb.

12. A blessing is said after the meal.

We thank God for delivering us from danger because not only in ancient times, but in every

generation, evil people have tried to hurt us. We are therefore bound to thank, praise, glorify,

honor and revere God who brought blessings and protection, for our ancestors, and for us. Am

Yisrael Chai; the Jewish people live! Praise God!

13. The Hidden Matzoh - Afikoman - Found - 1 Corinthians 11:24

The broken half of Matzoh, which had been hidden, is brought back to the table. It has to be

found by a child. The Matzoh is broken into pieces and distributed. Everyone eats of the bread.

Jesus Body - Matthew 26:26 Jesus Resurrection - John 12:23-25 - Luke 24:6-7 - John 20:16-18

14. A third cup of wine.

C. Cup of Redemption; It commemorates God’s promise: “I will redeem you.”

Jesus took the cup after the Passover Meal - Matthew 26:26-28 - Luke 22:20

Jeremiah 31:31-34;

As we partake of this third cup daily in our lives - we are to say . . . Psalm 107:2

15. Elijah’s Place at the Passover Table

A child opens the door to see if Elijah is there. The Bible says that Elijah would come and

precede the Messiah. Throughout the evening, one place at the table has been left unoccupied;

this is Elijah’s place; The head of the household asks one of the children to open the door to see

if he will enter and bring with him the long-awaited Messiah of Israel; Malachi 4:5-6 - John

17:21-22

16. The ‘Hallel’, the praise psalms – are sung.

Psalms 113 to 118 are sung together; Matthew 26:30;

“The Lord is my strength and my song; He has become my salvation.” (Psalm 118:14)

“I will not die but live, and will proclaim what the Lord has done.” (Psalm 118:17)

“Open for me the gates of righteousness; I will enter and give thanks to the Lord. This is the gate of the

Lord through which the righteous may enter. I will give You thanks, for You answered me; You have

become my salvation.” (Psalm 118:19-21)

“The stone the builders rejected has become the capstone; the Lord has done this, and it is marvelous

in our eyes.” (Psalm 118:22-23)

“Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord.” (Psalm 118:26)

Consider Jesus - Matthew 21:9 & Matthew 23:37-39; John 12:12-13

17. A fourth and last cup of wine.

D. Cup of Completion; It commemorates God’s promise: “I will take you as my own people.”

After the meal, the bread and the wine; the last cup is raised up to God;

Jesus said that He will drink this cup with us in Paradise - Matthew 26:29

At Marriage Supper of the Lamb - Revelation 19:6-9;

“Next Year in Jerusalem!” - New Jerusalem! Revelation 21:1-3

Psalm 107:2 “Let the redeemed of the Lord say so.”
