UNDERLYING TECHNOLOGY Passive Optical LAN is based on Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON) technology PON was authored by the FSAN Sub-Committee to bring Fiber To The Home (FTTH) The ITU developed FTTH standards: Started with APON (based on ATM) 1998-BPON (ITU-T G.983 - final) (Broadband PON @ 622/155 Mbps) 2003-GPON (ITU-T G.984.X) was first introduced (Gigabit PON @ 2.488/1.244 Gbps) GPON is a proven technology & has been deployed in thousands of networks worldwide. Originally developed for carrier environments to provide: Ease of Management A Future proof infrastructure Cost effective & Low Maintenance delivery method of Data, Voice, & Video. In the increasingly competitive, environmentally conscious government and commercial markets, everyone from the end user, to the brokers, project managers, architects, engineers, IT consultants and the general contractors are looking for a differentiator that saves money while increasing the efficiency of a building. What if we, VT Group, can show you a proven technology that exceeds traditional active Ethernet performance, provides added security, uses significantly less energy, can eliminate the need for IT rooms in your space and that can save you up to 50% in both CAPEX and OPEX? This technology is here today and VT Group is uniquely positioned to design, build, and support these systems.

KEY VALUE ADVANTAGES OF OPTICAL LAN

• Lower TCO (Total Cost of Ownership)

• “Green” IT (Saves Power)• High availability: 99.999%• Future Proof Infrastructure • Fully 128bit AES encryption• 10 Gig ready migration

strategy

GPON LAYOUT • OLT = Optical Line Terminal• ONT = Optical Network Terminal • Each PON supports a single optical fiber carrying

multiple wavelengths, a rate of 2.4G/1.2G, hundreds of end devices, and a maximum span of more than 20km

• 1490 nm downstream encrypted broadcast carrying Voice, Data, and Switched Video traffic

• 1310 nm upstream carrying Voice, Data, and Video Signaling traffic

Passive Optical LAN technology is the first major revelation in the cabling infrastructure world in decades and VT Group is on the forefront in design build integration of Passive Optical technology. Passive Optical LAN significantly reduces energy costs and heat loads, size of communications rooms and eliminates the need for expensive copper cabling and traditional active Ethernet switching. Our approach is centered on the consolidation of all systems commonly found in today’s building automation, video distribution, and phone systems over this Passive Optical LAN. VT Group’s solution significantly reduces the amount of cabling and allows convergence onto a single infrastructure to maximize ROI.
