Fr. Keith’s Korner Fr. Keith’s Korner Fr. Keith’s Korner Fr. Keith’s Korner Each year on Palm Sunday we celebrate a

parish Seder Meal, which is a Jewish ritual meal recalling the Passover event. It is thought that the Last Supper was possibly a Passover Seder Meal. At our parish, each household brings a dish to share, and it is a spiritual way for families to begin Holy Week. Please use the form available at the Information Center to register and take part in this special evening. The season of Lent is the most appropriate time during the liturgical year to celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation, and you will notice that Pope Francis so often focuses on the mercy of God in his remarks. There are three regional Reconciliation Services scheduled in the next two weeks in our area, and I hope you will consider celebrating this sacrament of God's mercy. The first takes place this Monday 16 March right here at our parish, and the other opportunities are listed on a bulletin insert this week. Hopefully, one of these times will benefit your family's spiritual journey during Lent. Now that we experienced some warmer weather this week, it is more natural to think about things like softball! We jointly sponsor a softball team in the Frederick County Church Softball League, and practices will be starting next weekend. Please use the information elsewhere in this bulletin to sign-up for our team sometime this week. Our Social Justice Ministry is co-sponsoring (with Saint John the Evangelist) an interesting seminar on Catholic Social Teaching concerning poverty, which will focus on the root causes of poverty, encourage service to those in need, and empower advocacy for societal change. Starting after Easter, this seminar will be held here in the Media Center, and is described more fully on an insert in the bulletin this weekend. Thanks to everyone who attended or supported in any way the annual Drexel Ball this weekend!

The Season of Lent

“The Salvation Paradox”

Rice Bowls are available at the Information Center for use at home as a family Lenten devotion. Having one simple meal a week at home, praying about those who experience hunger around the world on a regular basis can help your family experience this special season.

Donations support the work of Catholic Relief Services.

A Lenten Prayer Booklet for family activities during Lent is available at the Information Center. Please note the booklet "It's All About Love" is dated 2014. That is a misprint - the book is for Lent 2015.

Lenten Fridays will be observed at Saint Katharine Drexel with a simple meal of soup and bread (you bring the bread, we provide the soup) at 6:15 PM followed by various Lenten prayer experiences at 7:00 PM. This is a great way to make Lent a special time for your family. Check the purple bulletin insert for more information.

FREDERICK COUNTY PARISH TUITION ASSISTANCE FUND

This fund has now been established by eight parishes in southern Frederick County to aid families who wish their children to receive a faith-based elementary or high school education in Frederick County Catholic Schools. Beginning in 2015, a distribution committee composed of representatives of each participating parish (rather than the individual parishes themselves), will be determining the awards on the basis of financial need. The distribution committee uses the FACTS Grant &

Aid Assessment to conduct financial need evaluations. Families should apply through FACTS as in years past, making sure to indicate the school your child will attend, and the parish to which you

belong. We are grateful to the many parishioners in southern Frederick County who make a monthly offering for Catholic School Education to support this fund and assist young families desiring a faith-based education for their children. Go to online.factsmgt.com to set up your account and begin. There is a $28 processing fee for this service. The deadline to file is 31 March 2015. If you have questions, call 866-441-4637. You may also direct questions to our parish Business Manager, Michael O'Connor (301-360-9581).
