2. Column or Posta. Girt – the large or main beam of steel,

reinforced concrete, or timber, which supports truss and roofing.

b. Girder – a horizontal beam between column, studs or post which carry the

walls. c. Anchor strap – a device used for fixing a

post to its foundation.

3. Floora. Flooring – any material used in

laying a floor such as the tongue and groove. (T&G)

b. Floor joist – the framing member of a floor in which flooring materials

are nailed.

4.Walla. Wall sheathing – a covering usually made

of stone-cut or v-cut board.b. Top plate – the horizontal part of the wallc. Stud – the vertical wood support where

wall sheathing was nailedd. Lintel – small beam usually placed above

doors and window openings.

e. Window sill – the lowest part of the window frame.

f. Window jamb – vertical wood piece usually placed on the side of the

opening of the window.g. Sole plate – the bottom support for

a series of studs.

b. Roofing – a roof covering laid on the roof frame or purlins, such as corrugated

metal, concrete, asphalt or tilesc. Flashing – a galvanized iron covering

that prevents water from penetrating or a drainage b/w roof or wall of the

d. Gutter – a U-shaped structure on the roof that directs water to

the downspout.e. Downspout – a vertical pipe

through which water passes from the gutter to the ground.

f. Purlins – a piece of wood on top of the rafter for support and on which the roofing is attached.

g. Rafter – the uppermost part of a truss that carries the roof load.

h. Truss – a triangular roof structure composed of the following:

i. Fascia board – a piece of wood attached to the end of rafter where the gutter is nailed.

j. Ceiling joints – the horizontal pieces of wood on which the

ceiling boards are nailed.
