We may not have won the Football World Cup semi final on Wednesday 11 July, but we made up for it with plenty of winners and celebrations that day for our schools, teachers and
students at the School Sports Partnership Awards 2018!
22 of our Primary Schools attended the event each bringing two Y6 students to be rewarded as their Sports Personalities of the year. In addition there were seven other categories for schools to nominate
themselves or their students.
We were delighted to be joined on the evening by Olympic athlete Richard Kilty, who struggled on despite having had surgery the day before. Richard presented each of the nominees and winners with their awards before sharing his story of a local lad from Stockton who has gone on to
enjoy success on the world stage.
We had lovely feedback from St Paul’s Primary—’On the way home Kian said he would remember this day for the rest of his life, just shows the impact you all have on these children. Thank you’.

Personal Challenge
It is the mission of the School Games to provide ‘more young people with the opportunity to
compete and achieve their Personal Best ’ this includes competing against oneself and others to
improve personal performances. Personal Challenge is a student driven/self-led opportunity to
attempt and improve performance – this can be informal, physically active challenges both at
school and beyond the school day.
We have personal challenge ideas on our website here:
http://northfieldssc.org/ssp/physical-activity-challenge
Why not ask your students or young leaders to design their own challenges to share
with other children?
Do you know who your least
active pupils are in school?
Koboca is an online survey for schools to
use with their pupils to gather information
to find out the following information
1. Which pupils are not reaching 30 mins
of PA each day
2. What sports/activities pupils would be
interested in trying
3. Which community clubs pupils attend
outside of school
4. Who can swim 25m,use a variety of
strokes & can self rescue
You may be able to design something
yourself to use in school but if you’d like to
consider this product (£299 per academic
year) then check out the Koboa website
www.koboca.co.uk
The information gathered can be used to
provide data for your Sport Premium
reporting , School Games Mark
applications and to identify your least
active pupils for targeted interventions.
Are your children achieving their 60 minutes of
physical activity every day? This year we have
increased the opportunities available to schools for
your staff and students and have enjoyed delivering
the following:
68 Inter schools events in School Games format
72 competitions & festivals for Y3-6 pupils
22,449 participant opportunities have been taken
up.
Over 1,000 leaders & volunteers helped us deliver
our events
240 primary sports crew leaders were trained
152 CPD places were accessed

A ctive Learning
As part of our Partnership Offer this year we have worked with a number of schools to deliver whole school training on Active Schools and Active Learning. The training has been designed to help colleagues consider how they might adapt their teaching with simple ideas to ensure that children sit less and move more. Research has shown that by including more activity in lessons, children are more engaged in learning and increased movement impacts positively on both their physical and mental health.

Our Active Learning Stick Man Adventure Trail
It made a lovely change for us to experience great
weather for our Active Learning Trail this year.
After years of success with the Katie Morag Story,
this year saw the introduction of The Stick Man
Trail which was
a huge success
with approx. 48
groups of KS1
pupils!

Principles of High Quality
Competition
Have you checked out the principles
of competition on your dashboard
of the School Games Website? If we
adhere to the principles then we should
see SMILES as the result:
S Safe—participants feel physically
and emotionally safe.
M Maximum participation—
participants are involved all of the time.
I Inclusive—all participants can take
part and activities are adapted to suit their abilities.
L Learning—participants develop
personal, social, emotional, creative and/or physical skills.
E Enjoyment - activities recognise
individuals personal needs and interests. S Success—participants feel they are making progress. Are you getting SMILES at your school events?
The School Games Mark is a Government led award
scheme designed to reward schools for their commitment to
the development of sport, competition and leadership across
their school and into the community.
The deadline for applications is year is 3rd August 2018.
At the time of going to print we were delighted to see that 25 of our schools had already
applied with 15 of you achieving Gold! That is a fantastic result, congratulations to you all!

@northfieldssp
Thank you! It has been another very busy and successful term.
Thank you all so much for your continued support over
the past school year. We have loved working with your
students & staff and really appreciate the time you give
to PE, School Sport & Physical Activity. It is fantastic
that you take up so many opportunities and we hope you
see the positive impact this has on your students back in
school.
Have a great summer and a well deserved rest!
The SSP Team at the cross country in the rain and mud but still smiling!
