The context

Unemployment remains a serious challenge in Albania. Over the last years the official youth unemployment rates have been well above 30% and this doesn’t even take into account the level of underemployment among young Albanians. Furthermore, the witnessed economic growth of the past years has yet to translate into more jobs, prompting the use of the expression “jobless growth”.

The project

RisiAlbania is a project aiming to increase youth employment in Albania, by improving access to employment and income opportunities for young women and men, aged 15 to 29. Our efforts focus on stimulating job creation by the private sector and improving job intermediation between employers and young job seekers.

Partners

To make the labour market in Albania work for young people, RisiAlbania collaborates with a wide range of market players. These include business service providers, lead firms and SMEs, business organizations, public and private job placement services, civil society organizations, media channels, donors and other employment projects.

Scale & sustainability

RisiAlbania intends to achieve large scale and sustainable impact through its interventions, ensuring that changes integrated in the market will last beyond the duration of the project. We support new ways of working based on the incentives and capacities of our partners, emphasizing local ownership of the changes.

• More business service providers deliver adequate consulting services;

• Financial service providers offer better access to finance for businesses;

• Private sector advocates for change of policies and practices in support of businesses;

• Foreign direct investments increase and strengthen growth in the targeted sectors;

• Businesses participate in the development of skills of young women and men.

• RisiAlbania works closely with public and private job matching services to strengthen their capacities in, career counseling, high quality job matching and provision of detailed labour market information.

• We also stimulate mainstream media channels to develop programmes that provide accurate and updated information about the labour market using formats that appeal and attract young job seekers, – in a commercially viable way.

• We organize studies and public debates between civil society, private sector and government bodies to improve policies and practices in order to make the labour market more accessible for young women and men in Albania.

We focus on three sectors showing great potential to grow and offering attractive

job opportunities for women and men in rural and urban areas.
