    rING TYPE JoINTSThe R-Type Ring Joint Gasket can be manufactured in two different profiles, oval or octagonal in cross-sections in accordance with aPI 6a and aSMe B16.20, to suits aPI 6B and ASME B16.50 Flanges. Both types have identical pitch diameter as the flange groove they correspond to. The octagonal type has a higher sealing coeffient than the oval, therefore being the better gasket of the two. The oval type is the only gasket that will fit with a round bottom groove. Flanges with flat bottom v-grooves will accept either style. These gaskets are designed to seal pressure up to 6250 psi in accordance with aSMe B16.50 pressure ratings and up to 5000 psi in accordance with aPI 6a pressure ratings..

Asian sealing produce Ring Type Joints with fully traceable materials and supplied to NACE specifications upon request. ring type Joints manufactured to aSMe B16.20, aPI 6a and 17D are permanently marked according to standard requirements.

    Protective coatingIn accordance with API Specifications, soft iron and low carbon steel Ring Type Joints are protected with electroplated zinc to a maximum thickness of 13μm. Asian sealing can also do the cadmium, Silver and PtFe/Xylan coating.

    As with all solid metal Ring Type Jointsincluding Style R, it is recommended to replace the ring when flangedconnection is broken.

The RX is designed to fit the same groove design as a standard Style r, making the joints interchangeable, however consideration should be given to the difference in finished make up distance. The geometry of this modified design induces a pressure energising effect when the assembly is pressurised, improving the efficiency of the seal.     rTJ – SBX Type

    Subsea Gaskets is able to provide specialist machined seals that are designed for use in subsea wellhead, mudline and tree equipment within the scope of aPI 17D. to distinguish subsea Ring Type Joints from those used topside, the suffix “S” is applied to indicate the additional pressure passage hole in the ring cross-section. this additional requirement is to prevent pressure lock occurring when connections are assembled underwater. aPI 17D provides two drilling options for the pressure passage holes, option a and option B as shown. other than the addition of the pressure passage holes, all other physical aspects of the aPI 17D SBX ring type Joint is the same as the aPI 6a BX ring type Joint. It should be noted that aPI 17D no longer supports the use of SrX ring type joints (aPI 6a rX ring type Joints with subsea drillings), however, when opening flanges on existing equipment replacement SrX ring type Joints may be used.

    rTJ with PTFE Insert

    Style r and rX with PtFe Inserts Style r and rX ring type Joints can also be supplied with PtFe inserts, in order to reduce turbulent flow and eliminate gasket/flange erosion. For the rX style ring type Joints, the insert is specially designed with radially drilled pressure passage holes so that the self energising performance of the rX ring Joint is not impaired. as can be seen in the sectional view, the insert is located between the inside diameter of the ring Type Joint and the bore of the flange. On assembly, the insert is completely trapped between the make up of the flanges, filling the annular space between the flange bore and gasket.

    RTJ – Rubber Coated

    this is an oval ring type Joint totally enclosed in a nitrile rubber coating. the ring type Joint material is usually soft iron or low carbon steel.

    advantage of this type of gasket:

    • Used in pressure testing to minimise damage to flanges.

    • Rubber contact points provide additional seals while protecting the flange surfaces.

    • Provides increased assurance against corrosion, which can occur between conventional ring type Joints and the engaged surfaces of the groove.

    Combo or Transition rings

    these are combination rings which consist of two different sizes having the same pitch circle diameter. they are used for sealing Ring Type Joint flanges where the mating flanges have different ring groove geometry. Transition transition ring type Joints are available with either oval or octagonal facings and are not encompassed within the API or ASME specifications.

    RTJ – Kammprofile-Pressure Energized Gaskets Kammprofile - PEG with Kammprofiled sealing surfaces,

    where a rX type ring is typically used for high pressure reactors. Frequently, custom ring are used in the top and bottom of hydro processing reactors. to greatly enhance sealing ability, top and bottom oD angled sealing gasket surfaces are serrated per Kammprofiled specifications and faced with oxidation inhibited flexible graphite. It has the benefits of under compression graphite flows into minor imperfections creating higher seal tightness.

    RTJ – Kammprofile-Adapter Gaskets Kammpro-adapter gaskets allow for ring type joint

    flanges to be mated up to a raised face flanges, utilizing the strengths of the full metallic with the added benefit of kamm profiled sealing surfaces laminated with flexible graphite. Provided the pitch of the groove is sufficiently located under the raised face, this design is among the stoutest of adapter styles.

    RTJ – Kammprofile-Octagonal

    the Kammpro-orJ is sized to the standard octagonal aPI 6a or aSMe B16.20 dimensions but with the addition of the Kammpro design applied to the sealing areas and faced with oxidation inhibited flexible graphite. This design is ideal for applications where cracking or embitterment has been experienced in ring joint groove.

    Bridgeman Gaskets

    the Bridgeman gasket is a pressure activated gasket for use on pressure vessel heads and valve bonnets for pressures of 1500 psi and above. the cross section of the gasket is such that internal pressure acting against the ring forces it against the containing surface making a self-energized seal. Bridgeman gaskets are frequently silver plated or lead plated to provide a softer surface and minimize the force required to flow the gasket metal into the flange surface.

    Delta Gaskets

    a delta gasket is a pressure actuated gasket used primarily on pressure vessels and valve bonnets at very high pressures in excess of 5000 psi. as with the lens gasket, complete drawings and material specifications must be supplied. Internal pressure forces the gasket material to expand when the pressure forces tend to separate the flanges. Extremely smooth surface finishes of 63 micro inches or smoother are required when using this type of gasket.

    Lens rings

    a lens type gasket is a line contact seal for use in high pressure piping systems and in pressure vessel heads. the lens cross section is a spherical gasket surface and requires special machining on the flanges. These gaskets will seat with a small bolt load since the contact area is very small and gasket seating pressures are very high. normally the gasket materials should be softer than the flange. In ordering lens gaskets, complete drawings and material specifications must be supplied.

    Spiral Wound GasketSpiral wound gaskets have the ability to recover under the action of fluctuating loads caused by process fluid pres-sure and temperature changes, flange face temperature variations, flange rotation, boltstress relaxation and creep.

    The gasket sealing element consists of a pre-formed metallic windingstrip with layers of a softer, more compressible sealing material whichduring compression, is compressed and flows to fill imperfections in theflange surfaces when the gasket is seated. The metal strip holds thefiller giving the gasket mechanical resistance and resilience.

    Spiral wound gasket’s basic sealing element,several layers of specially formed continuous V-shaped metal strip are spirally wound with alternate plies of soft filler strip. The “V” profile allows the gasketto act as a spring and the depth is carefully controlled to bestow the sealingelement with the best compression and recovery characteristics. In order tofurther enhance themechanical and sealing properties of the gasket, it isnormal practice to apply several layers of the metal strip only to the innerand outer diameters.

    Controlled winding through machines are carefully monitor and adjust thetension of the winding strips. A uniform density throughout the productis produced. This provides the spring-like action within the gasket whichenables it to maintain a seal even when subject to fluctuating compressiveloads.
