Morad AtifChairman of the Executive Committee of the International Energy Agency’s Energy Conservation in Buildings and Community Systems

Dr. Morad Atif is the Director General of the National Research Council Canada’s Institute for Research in Construction (NRC-IRC), Canada’s leading organization in construction research and technology and in development of Model National Building Codes. He was Director of NRC-IRC’s Indoor Environment Research Program including the Canadian Centre for Housing Technology. His team’s multi-disciplinary initiatives related to research and innovation in the built environment have received international awards.

He joined NRC-IRC as a research officer in 1993, after spending two years as a faculty member at Texas A&M University’s College of Architecture and Department of Construction Science, where he earned a Ph.D. in Architecture and Construction Science. He also holds a Masters degree in Architectural Technology from the University of California.

Dr. Atif chaired the Executive Committee of the International Energy Agency’s (IEA) Energy Conservation in Buildings and Community Systems, a collaborative research partnership among 27 countries, over three consecutive terms. He serves on and chairs many Boards of Directors related to construction industry, such as Continental Automated Building Association and International Council on Buildings (CIB). Dr. Atif is the author of more than 80 technical publications and the recipient of many innovation, leadership and management awards

[email protected] Prof. Malcolm Bell is Emeritus Professor of Surveying and Sustainable Housing at Leeds Metropolitan University. Following retirement from his substantive post at the end of 2010 he continues to work in the field. He is a building surveyor with over 30 years research experience in surveying and housing. He has co-authored three books on energy efficient and low carbon housing, numerous journal and conference publications and a series of major research reports published by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation, and the UK Government. He has led UK Government and Zero Carbon Hub working groups on the building regulations and the implementation of zero carbon housing policy. His work on the performance gap between expected and actual energy performance in new and renovated housing is exerting a major influence over UK policy on low and zero carbon buildings. He has served on the policy and research teams for the

building regulations reviews of 2002, 2006 and 2010. Currently, he is working on the review for 2013. Pierre Bourrier, civil engineer graduate from Ecole des Ponts et Chaussees (Paris) is now retired. He has developed his career in the field of construction, and especially in steel frame buildings.

Pierre Bourrier was acting as Senior Vice President Construction Arcelor, the steel producer Luxemburg based, in order to increase the connection and industrial efficiency between industry and downstream users such as architects, structural and thermal engineers ... He occupied the chair of the European Steel Design Educational Programme, a joint initiative to disseminate Eurocode amongst construction communities.

In 2005, Pierre Bourrier has been elected as President of Fondation Batiment Energie, a state acknowledged foundation for research in the field of energy conservation in new and refurbished buildings.

André De Herde is a trained civil engineer architect. Ordinary Professor at the Faculty of architecture, architectural engineering, urbanism of the Université catholique de Louvain (Catholic University of Leuven), and is the Dean of that Faculty. The author of more than 150 scientific works, he also developed over 20 legislative documents of the state construction norms and national standards level. Among them are such documents as state construction norms on thermal insulation of buildings, requirements to energy saving in buildings in the view of safety provisions, requirements for design, installation and maintenance of exterior wall structures with façade thermal insulation, and other.

Currently Dr Farenyuk also heads the Technical Committee 302 ‘Energy Efficiency of Buildings’ under the Ministry of Regional Development, Construction and Residential Economy of Ukraine authorized to improve and develop Ukrainian norms on energy efficiency.

Christopher GorseProfessor of Construction and Project Management, Director of the Leeds Sustainability Institute

Chris Gorse is a Professor at the Leeds Sustainability Institute – Leeds Metropolitan University. His background is in Engineering and Project Management; he has undertaken consultancy and research in domestic, industrial and commercial building and their infrastructure. He holds a first class degree in Building, Masters in Construction Law and PhD construction interaction and performance. He is author of best selling construction technology, refurbishment and management books with over 70 journal and conference publications to his name.

Currently he is director of the Leeds Sustainability Institute and leads the Low Carbon Sustainability Research Group CeBE which has amassed the most comprehensive set of actual building thermal performance data in the UK. Research and publications, such as The Retrofit Challenge: Delivering Low Carbon Buildings for Low Carbon Futures and International research with Knauf, related to the thermal performance of buildings and associated building physics are changing perceptions and expectations of construction. Chris also sits on committee for the Association for Researchers in Construction Management, the Chartered Institute of Building Innovation and Research panel and leads a sub task group for the International Energy Agency, Annex 58 on whole scale building testing.

Petr Hajek is Professor of Civil Engineering at Czech Technical University in Prague, Faculty of Civil Engineering. Currently he is Vice Dean for Research and Head of Department of Building Structures. He is an expert in sustainable construction of buildings, complex assessment and rating of building performance quality, LCA, optimization of concrete structures and use of recycled materials. P. Hajek developed and lectures MSc course IBD (Integrated Building Design) focused on Sustainable Building Design and LCA-based assessment of building performance.

P. Hajek is Czech representative in the CEN TC 350 committee and a head of TNK 149 responsible for implementation of CEN 350 Standards into Czech construction practice. He is vice chairman of fib (International Federation for Structural Concrete) Commission 3 – Environmental Aspects in Design and Construction of Concrete Structures and a head of fib C3 TG C3.7 – Integrated life cycle assessment of concrete structures. Since 2005 he is a board member of iiSBE – International Initiative for Sustainable Built Environment and chairman of CSBS iiSBE Czech – Czech Sustainable Building Society.

Seán HarringtonSeán Harrington Architects, Dublin

Seán Harrington is the principal at Seán Harrington Architects, a design and research-based architectural practice based in Dublin, with experience and expertise in a wide range of fields from master-planning, urban regeneration, community consultation, conservation and sustainability to the design of places, cities and neighborhoods, buildings, bridges and other urban interventions. The work of the practice has won many Irish and international awards in recent years, including the Irish Architect of the Year 2010, RIAI Best Sustainable Building in Ireland Award 2009 and the Green Good Design Award 2009 from the European Centre for Architecture, Art, Design and Urban Studies and the Chicago Athenaeum (Museum of Architecture and Design). Seán’s work has been featured in many architectural exhibitions, including being chosen to represent Ireland at the Architects Council of Europe 20th Anniversary Exhibition on Sustainable Architecture, at the European Parliament building and the Palais des Beaux Arts in Brussels. Seán has taught at many schools of architecture and has lectured widely on sustainability, housing and urban design in Ireland, Russia, Spain, and UK and his architectural work and writings are widely published, including in Ireland, Switzerland, Germany, China and the UK. Seán is currently an external examiner for Architecture at D.I.T. and the former vice president of the RIAI.

Arnold Janssens is associate professor of building physics and building construction applications at Ghent University since 1999. He graduated as a civil engineer-architect (building technology option) at the K.U.Leuven in 1990. He obtained a doctorate in applied sciences (civil engineering) in 1998 with a dissertation on ‘Reliable control of internal condensation in lightweight roof systems: calculation and assessment methods’ (supervisor Prof. H. Hens).

At Ghent University he teaches courses on ‘building physics’,’ building acoustics and lighting technology’, ‘building services’: heating and ventilation’ and ‘building physics: special topics’ within the architectural and civil engineering programme. He is scientific coordinator of the postgraduate programme ‘Energy technology in buildings’ which is organized every year since 2006. His research interests are the modeling of heat, air and moisture transfer in buildings, the study of energy performance and indoor climate of buildings and the energy renovation of existing housing. He is in charge of the research group building physics, construction and services (BFG) within the department of architecture and urban planning. Arnold Janssens is IABP and AIVC board member and ASHRAE member. He was an expert involved in several research projects within the ECBCS-programme of the International Energy Agency.

Adrian JoyceSecretary General, EuroACE

Secretary General of EuroACE, the European Alliance of Companies for Energy Efficiency in Buildings. His role involves the day-to-day management of the affairs of EuroACE, bringing support to the working structure, preparing documentation, advising the Members, the General Assembly and the Board of Directors on issues that affect the energy efficiency of buildings. This includes monitoring the work of the EU Institutions, with a view to distilling those aspects that are of importance to the energy efficiency sector and to the establishment of the market conditions that will encourage, among other things, a significant increase in energy-related renovations to existing buildings. He also takes particular responsibility for technical issues including projects and the management of surveys, studies and reports. He is also the Campaign Director of the Renovate Europe Campaign, which has been initiated by EuroACE in order to bring about a threefold increase in renovation rates of existing buildings by 2020 and to ensure that, by 2050, all existing buildings are at least 80 % more energy efficient than they were in 2005.

Adrian M Joyce is a professionally qualified architect who, having graduated from University College Dublin in 1984, spent 17 years in private practice (working in the UK, France, and Belgium and in his native country, Ireland) before getting involved full-time in architectural policy. He was, for 18 months commencing in January 2002, the Practice Director of the Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland before moving to Brussels to join the staff at the Secretariat of the Architects’ Council of Europe where he became Director before leaving in July 2011. He also holds a part-time post teaching Construction Technology at the Catholic University of Louvain-le-Neuve, Faculty of Architecture, Architectural Engineering and Urbanism – LOCI. He is also a Board Member of eceee (the European Council for an energy Efficient Economy) and a Member of the Steering Committee of the European Coalition for Energy Savings.

Oliver is Director for Building Futures at the BRE and Executive Director in charge of refurbishment across BRE. His team of 90 advisors is involved in developing solutions for the low carbon agenda in both refurbishment and new build. Their clients include private and public organisations such as, Barratt’s, Audi, H&M, DECC, CLG, M&S, etc. Oliver is a Material Engineer by profession and has developed obtained patents on a number of products and processes. He currently sits on a number of Government advisory boards including the Green Deal and Zero Carbon Homes. He has advised a number of corporates and medium sized organisations on change management related to carbon and efficiency. He has also been instrumental in developing collaborations between Industry and Government to tackle key issues facing the sector, these include SMARTLIFE (£12m European project), AIMC4 (£6.3m TSB contract), Space (£20m of site construction/manufacturing project) and Victorian Terrace (£3m challenge to understand delivery of 80 % carbon). He is regularly asked to be a key note speaker at National and Industry events.

Robert Nuij works for the European Commission, Directorate-General for Energy, as a policy officer in the unit responsible for energy efficiency. His tasks focus on the implementation of the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive, which includes work on standardisation, and financial support for energy efficiency in buildings.

He started his career in the European Commission as a policy officer in the Directorate-General for Environment where he was involved in the development of integrated product policy and the European Eco-label. Subsequently, he worked for the Directorate-General for Health and Consumers in the area of product safety, where he was responsible for the co-ordination of Member State market surveillance efforts, toy safety and international co-operation, in particular with China.

Prior to joining the Commission, Mr. Nuij worked as a senior consultant for an international environmental consultancy with an emphasis on environmental product policy, eco-design and waste management. Mr. Nuij is a Dutch national and holds a Master of Science degree in Industrial Design Engineering from the Delft University of Technology.

Staf RoelsProfessor, Head of Building Physics Section, University of Leuven

Staf Roels is head of the Building Physics Section, University of Leuven (KU LEUVEN), Belgium. He earned his master title of civil engineer-architect at the same university in 1990. After gaining practical experience as civil engineer and architect he returned to the KU LEUVEN in 1996, where he started working as research fellow. In 2000 he defended his Ph.D. thesis, entitled “Unsaturated moisture transport in heterogeneous limestone”, at the Faculty of Applied Sciences of the KU LEUVEN. In 2001 he became part-time assistant professor, in 2004 full-time associate professor and since 2007 full professor at the Building Physics Section, KU LEUVEN. He lectures on building physics, building construction, performance based design and applied building physics. His research mainly focuses on moisture transport in porous building materials and the analysis of the hygrothermal behaviour and durability of building constructions. In his research he often combines refined numerical techniques with advanced experimental methods. He published more than 150 research papers of which 45 in international journals. At the moment Staf Roels has a lead task in some national and international research projects in the area of heat, air and moisture transfer in building constructions and in the area of integral building performance assessment.

Peter Sweatman is the Chief Executive of Climate Strategy & Partners (www.climatestrategy.com), a strategic consultant in Clean Energy, Clean Technology, Energy Efficiency and Climate Change Strategies. For 5 years directly prior to this Peter was Managing Director responsible for Iberia and Latin America for Climate Change Capital, one of the world’s leading specialist fund manager and advisors in the low carbon economy.

Peter holds a Masters degree in Engineering and Management Studies from Cambridge University. In 1991, he joined JPMorgan in Corporate Finance where he spent 9 years responsible for client business mainly in debt capital markets for Iberia and Latin America from London and then New York. In the year 2000, Peter became a social entrepreneur joining with other ex-bankers to found and run three NGOs: Charity Technology Trust (www.ctt.org), New Philanthropy Capital and Catalyst Climate Change Trust.

Peter is a visiting professor at IE University in Madrid, an active member of the Ashoka Support Network, a member of the JCI Institute for Energy Efficiency global Expert panel, lecturer at IIT-Comillas university and an advisor to the UK Trade & Industry in Spain. Architect researcher Mark Zimmermann has worked for more than two decades on the energy research in building sector at Empa, the Swiss National Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology. He was Operating Agent of IEA ECBCS Annex 50 “Prefabricated systems for low energy renovation of residential buildings”, that developed new methods, based on prefabrication, for energetic renovation of existing building stock. He is known and respected in the international research scene on energy efficient buildings and passive houses with numerous positions of trust in various research projects and organisations. He has published articles and held conference presentations among others on following topics: passive cooling of buildings, vacuum insulation solutions in construction, new methods for energetic refurbishments, 2000 Watt Society - the Swiss vision about sustainable society and its demonstration building Forum Chriesbach. Mark Zimmermann and his research team have recently developed SELF, a self sufficient space unit for working and living. It is independent from external energy and water supply, and it is demonstrating technologies for buildings of the future.

Tony Robson has worked with the Knauf Group for more than 20 years. After a degree in Economics at University College London, he started his professional life in the building materials industry. Tony held various positions in the industry both in the UK and overseas before he started his career with Knauf in 1998 as Managing Director of the Knauf Drywall business in the UK. After having taken over increased levels of responsibility at the international level within Knauf, he became in 2003 Group CEO of Knauf Insulation and a member of the Management Board of the Knauf Group. Whilst working for a global company was not in his career plan, it has given him opportunities to travel and work outside the UK, something he has enjoyed and which has shaped the person he is today. He has a passion for his work and the people he works with. He has a clear vision for Knauf Insulation; to become the world leader in energy efficient systems for buildings in order that it can radically impact the world’s supply of energy and create a sustainable legacy for our children.

Dominique Bossan has been Managing Director Eastern Europe for Knauf Insulation since 2005, based in Prague, Czech Republic. After a few years working in sales at Philips Consumers Electronics in France, he joined Owens Corning in 1994, and held several operational positions in the USA, in the Netherlands and in Belgium, such as Commercial Director for the Benelux and Eastern Europe, and Marketing Director. He was appointed Business Development Director as the Company was moving from Owens Corning Building Materials to Knauf Insulation 10 years ago. A graduate from the University of Economics in Lyon, France, he holds a MBA from the University of Georgia, USA.A 47 year old French citizen, Dominique is married, and has 3 children.

After gaining a diploma in Civil Engineering from the University of Liège in Belgium, Frédéric Delcuve started his professional career in the Construction industry in 1991. Frederic held various positions in the Bouygues Construction Group in France. After holding various levels of responsibility in the Bouygues design offices, he joined the Global Research & Development organization of the ArcelorMittal Group as a Manager of Steel Construction Research activities in 2001. This has given him opportunities to develop his knowledge of the construction market and more specifically the building envelope and building physics. He joined Knauf Insulation end of 2010 as Head of Building Science in charge of developping the understanding of real in-situ performance in buildings.

Mark Leverton began his career at Parker Pen then Gillette before emigrating to South America from 1993 to 2001 where he held a variety of positions in Marketing consultancy, Logistics, Sales and Marketing before fulfilling the role of Commercial and then Managing Director at Vidrios Lirquén (Float Glass) in Chile. He was then promoted to the role of President for Pilkington Glass France before taking over as Managing Director for the South West Europe region.

Mark has more than 15 years’ experience in the Insulation business and currently heads up since 2006 the Knauf Insulation Group’s Western European region which includes France, Benelux, Italy, Iberia and the Maghreb.

Barry Lynham is Head of Public Affairs at Knauf Insulation where he also has overall responsibility for building science and sustainability. Before joining Knauf Insulation in 2007, Barry headed up the Climate and Energy practice area at the Brussels based think tank and consultancy, The Centre, having previously worked for the US based public affairs firm, Fleishman-Hilliard. Before working in the private sector, Barry worked for the

European Commission’s Director General for Environment, where he was responsible for drafting the original legislation on CO2 labeling for cars. John Sinfield is Managing Director of Knauf Insulation. He took up this position in January 2010, reporting directly to the Group CEO. John has overall responsibility for the Northern Europe region which comprises UK, Ireland, Denmark, Finland, Norway & Sweden.

John originally joined Knauf Insulation as Sales Director in April 2006. In his role as Sales Director he was responsible for the development and implementation of the region’s commercial strategy and objectives. He led a large sales force with the aim of improving profitability and increasing market share.

John started his sales career in 1989 with Hepworth Building Products, over the following decade he worked for Marley Building Materials and Marley Roofing Products as Area Sales Manager and Business Development Manager respectively. In early 2000 John joined Thermalite, a division of Marley Building Products, as their Sales Director. Within this role he had responsibility for all external sales and technical services. Finally, before joining Knauf Insulation John spent 3 years as European Sales Director at Hepworth Drainage directing the commercial strategy of the company’s various product sectors.

Remco Teulings is Managing Director of Knauf Insulation. He took up this position in June 2009, reporting directly to the Group CEO. Remco holds the overall responsibility for the Central European region which comprises Germany, Austria, Switzerland and the Northern Balkan region. In addition, he is responsible for the European OEM and Technical Insulation business as well as the Global Heradesign Business (suspended ceilings). Remco originally joined Knauf Insulation as Group Marketing Director Europe & CIS in February 2007. In his role as Group Marketing Director he was responsible for the development of the marketing strategy and implementation of this strategy across the regions. Before joining Knauf Insulation, he was working more than 5 years for Ansell Healthcare (medical devices) and held different roles such as Director Retail and General Manager UK and his last role was Marketing Director for Europe, Middle East and Africa. Before this, he held several commercial leadership positions (purchasing, operations and business development) across various countries for Royal Numico a large public company active in infant and clinical nutrition. He started his career with a family-owned business in the luxury apparel industry (Oilily) where he was responsible for creating and managing the business unit ‘Accessories’. Remco is of Dutch nationality, he is married to Caroline and together with their 3 children they live in Munich/Germany.

Frans van Zon is Marketing Director Europe & CIS for Knauf Insulation. He took up this position in January 2010, reporting directly to the Group CEO. In his role, Frans is responsible for development and deployment of marketing strategy in KI, including product & systems development, marketing communications, public affairs, building physics, sustainable development and marketing intelligence.

Before starting at Knauf Insulation, Frans built a successful career in consumer durables, spending 10 years with Bosch Power Tools in Europe and North America, where he last held the position of Director Global Marketing & Product Development. After Bosch, he joined TTI Floor Care North America as VP Marketing & Development on the Hoover and Dirt Devil brands.

Joey Viselli is responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating all aspects of Knauf Insulation North America’s strategic marketing plans, initiatives, and objectives for all product lines across the United States and Canada. He provides oversight to marketing department managers and directors including: Market and Channel Development Managers, Business Analysis and Pricing, Product and Application Development Marketing Managers, and the Director of Strategic Marketing and Communications.

A graduate of The University of Alabama, Joey boasts nearly 20 years of sales and marketing experience across a range of consumer businesses. Joey spent the first 15 years of his career with Procter & Gamble in sales and brand management of several respected brands, including Pampers, Bounty®, Charmin®, Puffs®, and Tide®. During his tenure as the Senior Brand Manager in the global air care products business unit, he spearheaded the transformation of Febreze® into the fastest-growing brand in the P&G Fabric & Home Care business.

Joey joined Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company as the Director of Marketing Services in 2005. While serving as the “voice of Goodyear” with industry experts and investors, Joey led a restructuring, turnaround, and expansion of Goodyear’s largest business unit resulting in three years of record growth for the company.

Brett WelchBuilding Analyst Knauf Insulation North America

Welch’s interest in the efficiency of buildings began during his studies of Environmental Science and Economics at North Carolina State University. He went on to work in the design and construction of residences implementing natural and passive building techniques, including straw bale and adobe building envelopes, utilizing site harvested and waste stream materials. Later he worked at Advanced Energy, a non-profit building science consulting firm, administering a guaranteed utility bill program for low income households. He is a new member of the KINA team working on a variety of new initiatives aimed at creating increased efficiencies in the built environment.
