Sutton College has been Sutton’s premier adult education provider for 45 years, offering local residents a huge range of part-time and evening courses each academic year. Courses are suitable for adults of all ages – with students in their 90s enjoying their classes just as much as younger learners.

Each year, a diverse range of courses is offered, from workshops, exercise and art classes through to qualifications and work skills. Apprenticeships, bespoke business training and an advice and guidance service are also available.

This year we are excited to expand our provision at our Wallington centre too!

The College boasts specialist studios for art, jewellery, woodwork plus one of the few bespoke ceramics and pottery studios in the country. As an integral part of the Borough, Sutton College works with many local organisations to improve the life of the community.

Online enrolment is fast, secure and easy. Once you have set up an account, you can enrol for multiple courses at once and your details are stored so no need to ever enter them again!

*Some courses are subject to a course approval before you can fully enrol and these will have an ‘Apply’ option available. Full information on Course Approvals can be found on the website.

Courses must be viable in order to run and may be cancelled by the College if minimum numbers are not met. The College will offer to transfer students to an appropriate alternative in this case.

Early enrolment is advisable to ensure that the course of your choice runs.

The College reserves the right to refuse admission or to refer students to more appropriate classes, on academic grounds if necessary. Sutton College also reserves the right to cancel, combine or re-schedule courses or to make changes to course details advertised including cost, location, content and tutor.

As an apprentice you will work, get paid, gain genuine experience in the workplace, learn new skills and receive a qualification on successful completion of your programme.

Apprentices work with their tutor/assessor throughout their apprenticeship to help gain the training necessary to achieve their qualification and develop the skills required to take their career forward.

Apprenticeship programmes are a combination of assessment in the workplace and college-based/work-based learning.

If you are an employer considering recruiting an apprentice, you could benefit from Sutton College’s experience of working with employers across a range of sectors. Our Dance, Drama & Music courses give you a range of experiences and skills across a broad range of disciplines. This lively department continues to offer a huge variety of opportunities to take up a musical instrument, sing, dance or discover a love for theatre.

You can learn a musical instrument at Sutton College in a supportive environment, taught by enthusiastic expert tutors, with courses at various levels including Guitar, Piano and Ukulele.

Alternatively, come along and sing your heart out in one of our singing courses! ‘Learn to Sing in Harmony” could be the place for you to find your voice!

Dance can be used to improve physical health and to improve coordination and flexibility as well as being a great social activity. Students come to class to dance for fun or to develop skills and our Dance Around the World, Ballet and Flamenco dance classes are extremely popular each year.

Our Family Learning Programme delivers positive learning experiences offering families the opportunity to gain new skills and knowledge, support children’s learning, share experiences, meet other families and have fun together!

Our free and low cost family activities are delivered in schools, children’s centres and libraries across the Borough as well as in our main centres.

Popular courses include: Family Science, Little Learners: English and Maths, Ballet, Music and Movement, and First Aid plus courses aimed at helping parents back to work.

In schools and children’s centres, courses help build school readiness and support education, focusing on maths, English and/or language skills. There is also a range workshops exclusively for families with children and young people with additional needs and disabilities

Sutton College also offer Kids Club holiday activities for 6 to 11 year olds (see page 26) in addition to our family workshops for all ages.

Sutton College offers a range of different language courses which are available part time throughout the year.

Our language tutors have a wealth of teaching knowledge at all levels and are extremely competent in ensuring students fulfil their potential. With the majority of our tutors teaching their native language, they naturally convey cultural aspects and customs into the learning experience.

We currently offer various courses in the following languages: French, Italian, Spanish, German and Japanese. The Course Detail Forms (available online) will guide you and state the requirements for enrolling on any of our courses.

Learn the essentials for trips away on our ‘Get By In…’ courses or come to a Foreign Film Night to extend the language learning experience.

In-company training can be arranged, offering tailored language classes to improve language skills for work purposes.

Photography at Sutton College is a busy and popular department that offers students an exciting range of courses for many different ability levels. We run one day intensive courses and short courses that give time to explore and develop skills, as well as longer courses that lead to an award or certificate qualification from Levels 1 - 3.

Students may wish to study for pleasure, as a hobby or to improve and develop professional skills. This is also an ideal way to start to develop a career in photography.

Our Photography tutors are qualified teachers as well as highly regarded, award winning, professional photographers. They are skilled at supporting, engaging and building confidence for a diverse range of learners to achieve their very best. Their own work is often used to teach and inspire students.

We have an excellent range of facilities including a range of lighting and studio equipment as well as PCs with Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom software. There are also a range of good quality printers available for students to use. Students usually have their own cameras but the college can provide digital and DSLR cameras if needed.

Springboard offers an extensive range of courses for adults with learning disabilities in three distinct pathways.

1 - Independent living and community participationIncludes: social skills, staying safe, horticulture and home care skills.2 - Step up - Employability / higher level learningIncludes: reading and writing, number skills, ICT, volunteering, cookery and business skills.3 - Enrichment Includes: music, art, pottery, exercise, choir, putting on a production, cookery, managing stress, basic therapies for wellbeing and yoga.

We also provide courses in dance & drama. Students can choose courses from 1, 2 or all 3 pathways. Each student will be asked to complete an initial assessment to ensure that the courses suit their individual needs. Sutton College has a long-standing reputation as an excellent provider of Teacher Training, Supporting Teaching & Learning and Child Development courses. Many students use their studies with the college alongside kick starting successful careers.

Our suite of initial and further qualifications in teaching adults, including the Award in Education and Training (AET), offer excellent opportunities for progression and professional development.
