BBA Programme Report
Origin of the University was the Noorul Islam College of Engineering which
has started during 1989 under Noorul Islam Centre for Higher Education (NICHE). It
has been declared as a Deemed – to - be University by the Ministry of Human
Resource Development, Govt. of India under section 3 of UGC Act 1956 on 8th
December 2008. The University conducts many courses in Engineering and
Technology over the post 10 years . Now this Institution has grown itself into one of
the best Universities in India. It offers more than 18 undergraduate courses and 9 P.G
Courses. It conducts the M.Phil. and Ph.D. programmes in most of the subjects. The
university started Arts and Science courses in M. A. English, M.SC. Physics and
M.SC. Chemistry during 2013 and, M.Sc. Mathematics in 2014 due to heavy demand
for such courses in the southern end of Tamilnadu.
This university is a member of the International universities as well as the
member in the Indian universities. It has been conferred as the best university in
Tamilnadu during 2014 by one planet research-and Indo-Italian research centre. All
the eligible courses have been accredited by NBA, AICTE, DGS and UGC. NAAC
accreditation has been obtained and was adjudicated as ‘A’ grade in 2015. Our
university has excellent placement record. A Nano satellite named NIUSAT was
developed by our university, under the technical guidance and support from ISRO and
launched on 23rd
June 2017 by PSLV-C38 for the purpose of Agricultural crop
monitory and Disaster management support applications.
The department of BBA was started in NI University during the academic year
2013 – 14. The department is equipped with well qualified teaching faculty. It has
about 1000 textbooks kept in the department library of the department of management
studies. In the general library also about 1000 textbooks meant for BBA was kept.
Moreover, the department has smart classes to conduct seminars and group
discussions. Often seminars and group discussions are conducted for the improvement
of knowledge and personality development of students. The department organized
National Symposium on 23rd
February, 2017 and a National Conference entitled
Micro and Small Enterprises and its impact on the socio – economic development of
India on 18th
August, 2017. Among the research articles received from scholars
throughout India 60 research articles are published in the ISSN numbered NISMA
Journal of the Department of Management Studies.
The curriculum of BBA is of good standard and will make some of the students
as good entrepreneurs and businessmen. There is lot of scope for the establishment of
agro based micro enterprises in this district. This is because of the climate and
agrarian nature of the district. The curriculum of BBA of our university will definitely
motivate the graduates to establish agro based micro enterprises in this district. It helps
for creating more employment, income and purchasing power. Moreover, this
programme will further motivates the students to go for higher education in this field.
There is good number of aspirants for the BBA programme in Kanyakumari
District and nearby districts of Tamil Nadu. This is because there are good job
opportunities for BBA. But the existing colleges are not sufficient to accommodate all
of them. Hence, there is a need for a distant education mode to accommodate all the
aspirants for the programme in this district and nearby districts of Tamil Nadu.

PROGRAMME PROJECT REPORT FOR ODL
M.A. English Programme Report
The Noorul Islam Centre for Higher Education (Noorul Islam University) was
established as Noorul Islam College of Engineering in the year 1989. It was conferred the
Deemed University Status in 2009 by Government of India. The Department of English
was established in the year 1989 itself. The Department of English, established in the year
1989 under the then Noorul Islam College of Engineering, is now a constituent entity of
Noorul Islam University.
The Department offers the following courses:
M. A. English ( Regular)
M. Phil. English ( Regular)
Ph. D. ( Full-Time and Part-Time)
The Department started M.A. English Literature regular course during the year
2014-2015. Since then, three batches of students have successfully passed out from the
department by taking their degree. The fourth batch of students has been admitted during
the current academic year 2017-2018.
Programme’s mission and objectives
Mission: To offer educational opportunities through ODL to aspiring learners devoid of
chances for regular academic pursuits in centers of higher education.
Objectives:
1.To provide courses through ODL and enable aspiring learners to complete
higher education which otherwise they might miss due to lack of resources,
opportunities, financial constraints etc.
2. To extend educational possibilities to larger sections of society aspiring to
continue their studies through modes other than regular.
Relevance of the program with HEI’S Mission and goals:
The mission of Noorul Islam Centre for Higher Education is “ to
develop the institution as a Center of Excellence keeping pace with the advances in the
field, so as to provide quality higher education to the students and instill in them high
standards of discipline and ethics so that they become enlightened individuals in the
service of humanity. This distance education programme reflects the spirit of the
institution’s mission of producing enlightened individuals in the service of humanity with
adequate and necessary knowledge and skills.
Nature of prospective target group of learners:
Kanyakumari district of Tamil Nadu State where the institution is located is a
place known for 100 % literacy among men and women. Educated people constitute the
vast majority of the population .Undergraduate learners of English Literature in the
district take up B.Ed. course as their next step and quite often miss their opportunity to do
M.A. English Literature in regular mode later. Many of them even work as teachers in
matriculation schools with their UG degrees. But, they would like to continue their
studies in distance mode at least. Therefore, they are the target group of learners for M.A.
English in distance mode of education.
Appropriateness of programme to be conducted in Open and Distance Learning
mode to acquire specific skills and competence:
The M. A. English Literature Distance Education Programme is appropriate as it
would develop the knowledge of the UG students of literature and lift them to have better
understanding in the area of study and will enhance the academic, professional and
occupational standards of the learners. The learning outcomes shall cover focused grasp
of areas of literature, language, linguistics and ELT to broaden the mental horizon of the
learners.
Instructional Design:
The Department of English has required man power and resources to carry out the
proposed programme. It has a well-qualified and dynamic staff force which includes three
Professors, one Associate Professor, eight Assistant Professors and two Teaching
Assistants. They are specialized in various areas of literature, linguistics and ELT. The
programme is
already offered in regular mode with an effective curriculum and learner centered syllabi.
With these merits and also with the expertise of the faculty members the proposed
programme can be started and run very effectively.
Procedure for admissions, curriculum transaction and evaluation:
The institution has effective admission policy and effective tools for delivery
of service and evaluation process at its disposal.
Requirement of Laboratory Support and Library Resources:
As the M. A. English Literature Distance Education Programme does not include
any laboratory component or content, there is no need for laboratory support.
Noorul Islam Centre for Higher Education has a separate library building which
houses a large collection of books relating to English Literature in areas like language, all
divisions and genres of literature, linguistics and ELT. Department of English also has a
Department Library having relevant and necessary books on language and literature. The
Department Library houses more than 1000 books for reference and borrowing.
Quality Assurance mechanism and expected programme outcomes
The university has a quality assurance mechanism enshrined in its Quality Standards and
Quality Assurance Manuel. The same will be implemented for the ODL programme also.
The outcomes expected of this programme will definitely benefit the target learners.
