YEARS AGO WE ASKED, IF OUR CHURCH DID NOT EXIST WOULD OUR COMMUNITY AND WORLD MISS US?Today, I believe the answer to that question is “Yes!” Our community and world would wonder, “Where did those loving, kind, helpful, generous and gracious Parkview people go?” Lord willing, we are going nowhere except forward in our efforts to make an eternal difference in the lives of those who need to know and experience the grace of God found in Jesus. It’s been an exciting year. For me, facilitating life change and spiritual growth never gets boring. Seeing greater numbers of people come to faith and deepen their walk with God is both humbling and inspiring. It’s exciting to pray, dream, process and dialogue about the possibilities that lie ahead. Keep in mind, God calls us to faith and faith requires risk, but what that involves isn’t always clear.
Gratefully, we do have a sense of where God is leading us. However, before looking forward, let’s first acknowledge what God has done. As you read the following pages, offer your own thanks to the One who has made all of this possible. Keep the faith, Parkview, and always know how much I love and appreciate you all. In the words of the Apostle Paul, For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all God’s people, I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers. I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. Ephesians 1:15-17
Grace and peace,
Ray Kollbocker | Senior Pastor
86 YEARS OF BEING THE CHURCH
1961
New church building was completed at our current site on St. Charles Road. The sanctuary seated 320.
1974
The Children’s Ministry wing was added to the existing structure and is still used for that purpose.
1995
Ray Kollbocker and his family arrive from NJ. On his first Sunday attendance was 72 people.
2005
New gym, offices, classrooms and auditorium, seating 550, were completed.
Physically moved the church building to Prairie & Elm Street (where it still stands today).
1950Purchased that same little white church on Glenwood Avenue.
1946
Met in a small, white church building on Glenwood Avenue in Glen Ellyn.
1940
Began as a small group of people meeting in a home. Later met in Acacia Hall (north of the tracks on Main Street).
1927
Moved to Main Street Hall (south of the tracks over Soukup’s Hardware).
1929
“AS I REFLECTED ON OUR INTERESTING HISTORY, IT STRUCK ME THAT WHAT HELD OUR CHURCH TOGETHER DURING ALL THOSE MOVES AND MANY CHANGES WAS NOT A VISIBLE BUILDING, BUT CHRIST DWELLING IN THE MIDST OF HIS PEOPLE. PROBABLY MORE THAN ANYTHING ELSE, I SEE THAT THE CHURCH REALLY IS THE BODY OF CHRIST.”

ANDREA’S STORY By the beginning of 2012, I felt I had lost my connection to God. I began searching for a church, hoping to find a connection to God again, but with no hope of healing my abortion wound.
The very first week I walked into Parkview, I hid in the back trying to avoid eye contact with anyone and opened the bulletin to read it from front to back. Lo and behold, there was a Restore group, for women dealing with post abortive issues. I began attending the group and talked about my experience in a safe place for the first time. Yet, I vowed never to forgive myself.
After weeks of attending Restore and weeks hearing Pastor Ray say, “IT’S JUST JESUS”, not works or performance, it finally hit me,
“I am already forgiven. I cannot do anything to win or lose favor with God. It’s JUST Jesus.” My shackles fell off and my tears of anguish turned to tears of joy.
Without this experience, I could have easily lived life trying to be a “good Christian”, never seeing the true depths and darkness in my heart and never truly seeing the light and the grace of Jesus. Now I get to share his message of grace through leading worship and helping other women heal from their abortion wounds.

ALYSE & JON’S STORY My husband, Jon, and I first took the Financial Peace class in 2010. We had about $34,000 in debt from credit cards and student loans. At the time, Jon had been on unemployment for a year, and my job was low paying. God truly worked through this class! We've
attended it 4 times and now help lead the class. It was NOT easy, but after much prayer and hard work together. I am proud to say that almost three years later we are debt FREE! God has blessed us with these life skills and through it, we are living generously.
“ If they knew what I do when my doors are closed, everyone would surely hate me.” My life got lonelier and began to unravel, but I just felt numb. The more I used my addiction, the less it gave to me and the less I felt anything. A friend urged me to get help, and I finally asked a pastor who then connected me with Recovery Mondays at Parkview. I sat in the meeting listening to others share about addictions and recovery and felt like I belonged for the first time
in my life. I shared my story, and everyone listened. They commiserated, identified and shared with me. They told me they loved me, and I knew they meant it, so I came back. That was two and a half years ago. I’ve stayed sober for that time, but that pales in comparison to what I’ve found: I’m part of the body of Christ now. Some days are hard, others are easy, but we live them together and that has made all the difference. —DT

MICHELLE’S STORYThroughout her life, Michelle considered herself an atheist. Her life radically changed when she broke her neck and was faced with a permanent life-altering injury. After praying to a God she didn’t think existed, Michelle was healed. She became a Christian shortly before coming to Parkview. Her first visit to Parkview, a member of the First Impressions Team got her connected. Today, she is learning who God is and how to trust Him, and she sees God at work through her Life Group.
“ You learn to take down the walls of pride, anxiety, fear and ignorance. You learn to take risks in relationships. You learn to sacrifice your time for another. And soon you realize that community is bigger than just us. God has a greater purpose, and you begin to think...outreach.
Through a combination of Scripture and prayer, you also realize that something is changing us. You feel the nudge (or shove) from the Spirit. How is God leading me as a spouse, parent, employee, friend? Where do I need to realign my life? None of these are easy questions, and I don’t think anyone has these completely answered, but God is leading the way, and there is increasing trust in the journey.” —Isaac

PROJECTS TO DATE
BRIAN’S STORYParkview has meant so much to our family, both when we were serving at Parkview and now as we are serving on a different continent. In our current context, we depend on the prayers, encouragement and support of the body of Christ.
There has always been a sense that we are on this strange, difficult, miraculous journey that God has marked out for us together as a community of fellow strugglers and pilgrims. These days this means we are able to share the light and the life of the good news with people who have never had the chance to experience it in a context very different from the western suburbs of Chicago. Of course, there are struggles in living so far from our
family and friends, but knowing that we are walking the path together brings us joy and comfort.
The support we receive from PCC cannot be simply measured in dollars and cents or numbers of prayers offered on our behalf. There remains a spiritual bond that was born out of our time spent fellowshipping and serving together.
We pray that God will continue to pour out his spirit at Parkview and that we will all continue to run with perseverance the race that He has marked out for us, both as individuals and as a community. Thanks Parkview…and thank you God for your mercy and love!

BARBARA’S STORYIn 2009, my life suddenly changed when my employer closed the business. In a matter of months, I went from having everything, a home and a job, to being unemployed and living in my car.
I had not been to church in 20 years when I came to Parkview. It amazed me. I wasn’t shunned or condemned. Instead, they accepted me. They walked the walk and talked the talk, teaching me I didn’t have to be “good, good, good” to be “good enough” for God.
Since that time, I returned to school, received certification and started a new career. I now have a job I love and am no longer in a PADS shelter. I’ve also been on two mission trips, using my struggles and pain to come alongside others who are also struggling. My faith is unshakeable. Every day I wake up filled with joy and thanksgiving for my job, my family at Parkview and my journey with PADS, because it helped me grow. Sometimes Parkview people say to me,
“You did it, Barbara!” I stop them and say, “No, we did it! We did it!”
There is hope…there is GOD!

EILEEN’S THOUGHTS ON MENTORING“ Mentoring is a humbling experience knowing that God put a child in my path to support and love. Over the months, we had some tough conversations about life. Those discussions deepened our relationship and created a special bond between us.”
“ What is the value of volunteering at Jefferson? When asked this question I had to respond with just one word—invaluable! Some people may put a price or give a dollar amount by adding the cost of school supplies donated, meals provided or the volunteer hours spent. But the truth is, that even if you add all those “costs”, it doesn’t truly reflect the investment made. What Parkview does for Jefferson is “invest” in our students’ lives, their families and our community.”
Raul Gaston Principal of Jefferson Middle School

Parkview 2012 Annual Report / 21
The stories, numbers and statistics contained in this annual report are important for many reasons; they illustrate growth, they communicate impact and they represent change. However, the most important thing about these numbers is each one represents transformed lives. Every number has a name, every name has a story and every story matters to God. These pages contain a visible manifestation of the life changing power of God’s grace.
It may seem strange to talk about the close of the 2013 ministry season, so let me explain. All the information contained in this annual report is tied to our ministry calendar, which starts in July and ends in June. Our 2013 Ministry Year started July 1, 2012 and ended June 30, 2013.
As I stated earlier, 2013 was a dramatic year of growth on every level. Our average weekly attendance grew by 21.5% and our average weekly giving increased by 33%. For the first time in our history, not only did we meet the 2013 budget, but the people of Parkview gave nearly $300,000 more than required to meet the approved budget!
In addition, we saw tremendous growth in the number of people engaged with Life Groups and Recovery Groups year. Since we re-birthed the idea of Life Groups last fall, the number of people doing life together has increased by 325%!
We have also seen the number of people serving in leadership roles grow in the ministry here, at 764 St. Charles Road, and along North Avenue and around the world. We are rapidly becoming a 7-day-a-week church with 7-day-a-week needs, requiring 7-day-a-week leadership!
Parkview is in no way a perfect church, as I have heard Ray say many, many times…there is NO such thing as a perfect church. However, I would take our group of imperfect people any day of the week!
Thank you for your faithfulness to what God has called you to and for all you do to make this church a light in an increasingly dark world.
