chickens and beef.

We do not use chemical fertilizers or pesticides. We do not give drugs to any of our animals. Our beef never eats grain or stays more than

one day on a paddock of grass. A few days after moving the herd, we bring chickens through and let them eat grass and scratch through

manure patties eating fly eggs and bugs. Our chickens get new pasture 2 times every day as we move their pasture shelters. They drink spring water and are fed a ration of local non-gmo grains: corn,

roasted soybeans, oats, organic kelp meal, organic mineral supplement, and a probiotic.

Our laying hen flock is a mixture of several heritage breeds, and every shelter gets its own rooster so most of the eggs are fertile

Our “eatin’ chickens” are a Cornish cross used widely by commercial kitchen houses. Instead of confinement houses and drugs, they get sunshine and bugs. Truly a delicious product and some believe to be nutritionally superior. We process every bird here on the farm in an inspected facility and compost all of our waste.

Chickens and cows need grass and sunshine to be healthy and to deny them of it borders on cruelty. Organic certification fails to address this issue. We like to think that here in Parksville, we can produce a product “beyond organic”.
