CHICOT STATE PARK• Chicot boasts a unique
combination of natural resources on land. Mature hardwood uplands and extensive beech-magnolia forest areas add to the beauty of the cypress-tupelo lake environment. Large numbers of deer, raccoon and other wildlife live in the surrounding woods. A birding guide to Chicot State Park is also available for bird watchers. The 300-acre Louisiana State Arboretum, an area devoted to a living, natural exhibition of over 150 species of plant life native to Louisiana, is located adjacent to the main entrance.

GRAND ISLE STATE PARK• This is Grand Isle State Park--
a natural heaven on the most popular barrier island off the coast of Louisiana. A beach ridge created by the action of the waves of the Gulf, Grand Isle serves as a breakwater between the Gulf and the network of inland channels that connect to the bayou tributaries of the Mississippi River. It is also the launching point for excellent deep-sea salt-water fishing adventures.

TYPICAL SWAMPS IN LOUISIANA
• Louisiana's swamp lands hold a special place in Louisiana culture. These marshlands are an extremely important ecosystem within the land . Cajun and Native American Indians have been living in harmony with these lands
for centuries. Southern Louisiana contains 40 to 45 percent of the wetlands found in the lower states .
• The Atchafalaya Basin or Atchafalaya Swamp, is the largest wetland and swamp in the United States.
