Dear Friends,

As of midnight, Sunday, the

Christmas season is officially over. For some,

the decorations are already put away and the

pine needles are almost all out of the rug. For

others, there is reluctance to put everything

away because it means the reality of the “deep

mid-winter” has arrived. Years ago, we had a

priest in our diocese (he has since gone to

God) who refused to take down the tree in the

rectory or remove the poinsettias from the

church until Ash Wednesday! No matter how

we look at it, time marches on.

We now enter the season known as

Ordinary Time which begins on January 13

and continues until February 25, the day

before Ash Wednesday and the beginning of

the Lenten season. It will resume at the end of

the Easter season, May 1, the day after

Pentecost. For the Christian, the liturgical

calendar forms the rhythm of our spiritual

life. It is a truly beautiful experience that we

share as a worshipping community. Regular

attendance at mass is just as important to us

as is breathing! Each week we come together

to share the fruits of our labors and our

concerns both locally and globally. We

“exhale” if you will, when we arrive to church

and, just like breathing, we begin to “inhale”

the goodness of the Lord until we are sent

forth to “glorify the Lord by our lives.”

With the very disturbing news of

violence in Iran and Iraq, let us attend to the

needs of one and all and devote ourselves to

the practice of peace. Careless comment and

ramped up rhetoric have no place in the heart

of the Christian. The Lord, Jesus Christ, gave

us his peace, not so we would keep it to

ourselves, but offer it to everyone, including

those we call enemies.

Peace,

Fr. Michael

SAFE ENVIRONMENT TRAINING

FOR ALL VOLUNTEERS!

Our diocesan policy requires that all those whose

work brings them in contact with children receive

Safe Environment Training.   This applies to all

volunteers, Catechists, Aides, Eucharistic

Ministers, Greeters, and Lectors.. For those who

have not already attended a session, the training

is available online. To register for the Online

Course, email [email protected]. You will

then be contacted by Cathaleen Peloquin from the

Office of Healing and Prevention who will send you

the link for the online training. Once you have

completed the training you must send the certificate

to Michelle Lutter. If you are interested in a LIVE

course or if you have any questions please contact

Michelle Lutter at the Religious Ed. Office, or email

[email protected]. Our Parish requires that

you fill out a CORI form each year (with attached

copy of your driver’s license) and a onetime only

Code of Ministerial Conduct. These forms can be

found on the table outside the Religious Ed Office in

the Parish Family Center.

FEBRUARY CALENDAR

RAFFLE

We are running our February Calendar Raffle again

this year, and as you know here at OLL, dollars

equal service. For every dollar we receive either

through our weekly collection or annual fundraisers,

it enables us to provide many of our wonderful

services.

Please help to make this February Calendar Raffle a

huge success again this year by participating in the

raffle. A letter describing the raffle and raffle

chances has been mailed to all parishioners. You

may mail or drop off your chances and donation to

the Parish Office, or place your envelope in the

offertory basket. If you require additional calendars

or chances, please stop by the Parish Office.

Donation cost is $10 per chance or 4 chances for

$30. Good Luck to all!

Wendy Chartrand

Parish Accountant

Almost 4 years ago, I started thinking what am I

going to do with my free time as the last one of our children

prepares to head off to college? My first thought was

volunteering, but the hard part was where. At the same time

Fr. Dennis was working on a re-organization of the Parish

office staff and was looking for a part-time bookkeeper. I felt

this would be a great opportunity for me as it was close to

home and not a lot of hours. However, I was concerned that

because I already had a full-time day job, I would not be the

best fit for the position. So, I prayed on it and spoke with my

family who all agreed to support my desire to throw my hat

in the ring for the bookkeeping position. After speaking with

Fr. Dennis, we agreed it would be a great fit and were both

excited to give it a try.

Giving my time and talent to the OLL community has

been a blessing in many ways. I had often said OLL feels like

home. I spent much of my free time over the past 25 years

becoming more involved by volunteering within the Parish,

by teaching CCD, babysitting during Mass on Sunday

mornings, chairing the Social Committee, chairing Kids’

Alley at the Annual Parish Bazaar, and later becoming a

member of the Leadership Team for the Bazaar. Furthering

my commitment to the Parish Family seemed like the perfect

next step in strengthening my relationship with God.

The position quickly became more of a Parish

Accountant role with some of my duties including, but not

limited to, preparing payroll; reconciling Partners in Charity;

filing necessary paperwork and reports with the Diocese of

Worcester, the City of Leominster, and the State of MA;

preparing the annual budget, year-end reports, analytical

reports as needed; and additional bookkeeping tasks. Most

recently, I have been responsible for all accounting and

reporting tasks for our Capital Campaign “Something

Beautiful for God.” In short, it is my responsibility to make

sure that all checks and balances are in place to keep us

accountable as funds are received and dispersed.

I am truly blessed and honored that Fr. Michael has

agreed that this arrangement is working well in the Parish

Business office and I am still able to provide and enjoy a

meaningful and fulfilling role in the Parish.

I am always available as a resource to our Parish

family. I am happy to answer any questions regarding the

finances of the Parish at any time. Our goal is to be totally

transparent. Please feel free to call me at (978) 342-2978 (Ext

101), leave me a note at the Parish, catch me after Mass, or

send me an email at [email protected]. I am

available at the Parish office two weeknights and over the

weekend. I promise to respond to your questions within 24

hours of receiving them.

In closing, I invite you to participate in Parish

life, whether it be by volunteering at the Annual Bazaar,

attending one of our numerous events, or staying for

coffee after Mass. There are so many ways to get

involved; you never know where it may lead you. We are

truly part of a wonderful FAMILY here at Our Lady of the

Lake. With God all things are possible! Peace, Wendy

In observance of the birthday of Dr.

Martin Luther King, the Parish Office

will be closed on Monday, January

20th, and there are no Religious Ed

classes scheduled on Monday and

Tuesday, January 20th and 21st.
