FATHER LEDOUX’S PRAYER INTENTIONS FOR JANUARY WORSHIP: In this New Year, may we seek the guidance & intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, under the title "Holy Mother of God," for personal and global peace by welcoming her Son, Jesus, the "Prince of Peace" born among us. FAITH FORMATION: Celebrating 100 years as a Diocese, beginning this month, we recall with gratitude the deposit of Faith handed down to us and we pray that we will commit to teaching and modeling our Catholic Faith well for the next generation. SOCIAL JUSTICE: As the 45th anniversary of Roe vs. Wade is commemorated this month, may our ceaseless prayers as a Parish and Diocese for the cause of life hasten the day of justice for the unborn. PRO-LIFE REFLECTIONS

In the Lord your labor is not in vain. ~1 Cor 15:58b

REFLECTION: Every January tens of thousands of Americans participate in the annual March for Life in Washington, DC, or the annual West Coast Walk for Life in San Francisco. These events give public witness to the fact that most Americans want to see unborn children protected, and enable all who participate to be renewed in their convictions and determination to work for that protection.

PRAYER: Lord, bless all those who will march this year for life, and the many more who labor for life in their own communities every day.

JANUARY IS PRO-LIFE MONTH JANUARY 22nd: DAY OF PRAYER FOR THE

LEGAL PROTECTION OF UNBORN CHILDREN

PRAYER TO END ABORTION

Lord God, I thank you today for the gift of my life,

And for the lives of all my brothers and sisters. I know there is nothing that destroys more life than abortion,

Yet I rejoice that you have conquered death by the Resurrection of Your Son.

I am ready to do my part in ending abortion. Today I commit myself never to be silent,

Never to be passive, never to be forgetful of the unborn. I commit myself to be active in the pro-life movement,

And never to stop defending life Until all my brothers and sisters are protected,

And our nation once again becomes A nation with liberty and justice

Not just for some, but for all, Through Christ our Lord. Amen

----------------------------------------------------------- PRAYER FOR LIFE IN REPARATION

FOR ROE VS. WADE

God and Father of Life, You have created every human person,

And have opened the way for each to have eternal life.

We live in the shadow of death. Tens of millions of your children have been killed

because of the Roe vs. Wade decision legalizing abortion.

Father, have mercy on us. Heal our land

And accept our offering of prayer and penance. In your love for us,

Turn back the scourge of abortion.

May each of us exult in hearts full of hope And hands full of mercy

And work together to build a culture of life.

We pray through Christ our Lord. Amen. ~www.priestsforlife.org

"A great prayer for life is urgently needed, a prayer which will rise up throughout the world. Through special initiatives and in daily prayer, may an impassioned plea rise to God, the Creator and lover of life, from every Christian community, from every group and association, from every family and from the heart of every believer.”

– Pope John Paul II, The Gospel of Life (Evangelium Vitae), n. 100.

Centennial News TAKING A PRO-LIFE STAND

The U.S. Supreme Court legalized abortion in the infamous Roe v. Wade decision on January 22, 1973. In a short span of days,

105 Lafayette Physicians, led by Dr. Zerben Bienvenu and others, wrote and signed a resolution stating their opposition to abortion and their resolve to preserve human life. Their advertisement read in part: “We maintain that life DOES exist before birth. As physicians, we intend to fulfill our commitment to preserve that life.” The Diocese of Lafayette continues to respect, protect, and serve life from conception to natural death.

CENTENNIAL INDULGENCE

An indulgence granted by Pope Francis can be gained throughout this Centennial Year by all who visit the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist and pray the Centennial Prayer (with the usual conditions for an indulgence). Please see the Diocesan Webpage for more information. The Centennial Prayer is in the Cathedral or you may print it from the webpage (available in various languages on webpage).

UNBORN CHILDREN

January 22nd is observed as a particular day of prayer for the full restoration of the legal guarantee of the right to life and of penance for violations to the dignity of the human person committed through acts of abortion. January 22, 2018 marks the 45th Anniversary of Roe V. Wade. May we give thanks to God for the gift of Human Life.

9 DAYS FOR LIFE Thursday, January 18th - Friday, January 26th

The U.S. bishops’ annual novena 9 Days for Life takes place Thursday, January 18th - Friday, January 26th., a special period of Prayer, Penance and Pilgrimage. A novena, easily accessible by computer, phone, or by download, will unite us in

the days surrounding the anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the Supreme Court decision which legalized abortion throughout pregnancy. An end to abortion is not the only intention. We'll also be praying for people at all stages: those near the end of their lives, children in need of adoptive homes, those mourning the loss of a child through abortion, and many others. Pray for the respect and protection of all human life with new intentions, brief reflections, and more each day. Download the novena online, or participate through Facebook, email, text message or an app. Join at www.9daysforlife.com!

PHYSICAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL CONSEQUENCES OF ABORTION FOR WOMEN

Contrary to popular opinion:

ABORTION HURTS WOMEN

1. 31% of women having an abortion report suffering

physical health complications

2. 10% of women having abortions suffer immediate,

potentially life-threatening complications.

3. Women have a 65% higher risk of clinical depression

following abortion vs. childbirth.

4. 65% of women suffer symptoms of Post-Traumatic

Stress Disorder (PTSD) after abortion.

5. Many women describe their experience as a

“nightmare”, which can hardly be equated with

“choice”.

6. 60% of women surveyed after abortion responded

that: “Part of me died”.

7. Suicide rates among women who have abortions are

six times higher than those who give birth.

8. Abortion increases a woman’s risk of future

miscarriages by 60%.

The above figures, are referenced from an Elliott Institute publication, and are evidence-based facts about the consequences of abortion for women’s health.

BUILDING OUR FUTURE TOGETHER

“JESUS, I TRUST IN YOU”

St. Faustina: "January 19, 1937. My life at present flows on in peaceful awareness of God. My silent soul lives on Him, and this conscious life of God in my soul is for me a source of happiness and strength. I do not look for happiness outside the depths of my soul in which God dwells; of this I am aware. I feel a certain need to share myself with others. I have discovered a fountain of happiness in my soul, and it is God. O my God, I see that everything that surrounds me is filled with God, and most of all my own soul, which is adorned with the grace of God. Already now, I will begin to live on that on which I shall live for all eternity." (Diary 887)

HOFFMAN PIPE ORGAN ORGAN UPDATE

GREAT NEWS!! Organ technicians arrived this week and the process of reinstalling, wiring, adjusting and tuning has begun. Please consider giving a donation to help fund the rebuilding and renovation of our beautiful organ! As Fr. Ledoux previously indicated, the needed repairs to our pipe organ will cost an estimated $63,000. This is significantly less than the cost of a new and comparable pipe organ. You are asked to prayerfully consider making a donation specifically to this endeavor, in order to offset pipe organ repair costs. It is important to note that the pipe organ repair project was not previously anticipated. As such, it is not among the various projects that comprise our parish’s capital campaign. Donations to the pipe organ repair can be made by simply contacting Cindy Courville at the parish office or speaking directly to Fr. Ledoux about a donation.

Excerpt from a letter by Keith D’Anna, Director of Music, Choir Master and Organist at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Lafayette…

The Hofmann Pipe Organ at St. Peter will serve the faith community in Carencro for another 50 to 70 years if the necessary repairs are carried out. It’s rebuilding and renovation would be a testament of the community’s love for the liturgy and worship of Our Lord.

Stewardship is the grateful response of a Christian disciple who recognizes and receives God's gifts and shares

these gifts in love of God and neighbor.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR FAITHFUL STEWARDSHIP!

A STEWARDSHIP MOMENT THIRD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

The first disciples of Jesus in today’s Gospel left their work and their daily routines to follow Him. They abandoned their livelihoods, familiar surroundings and the lives to which they had become accustomed to be closer to Him. The good steward finds ways to be removed from what may be a comfortable existence or daily routine in order to serve the Lord more faithfully. All too often out of fear, insecurity or even selfishness, we refuse to leave the safety of the little world we have created for ourselves in order to hear the Lord’s call and be challenged by His Gospel. Perhaps we should reflect on what comforts we need to sacrifice in order to be better stewards of God’s mercy, compassion and hospitality He planted within us.

Next week, we will take up the Collection for the Church in Latin America. For many in Latin America and the Caribbean, rural terrain and a lack of ministers are obstacles to practicing their faith. Your support to the collection provides lay leadership training, catechesis, priestly ad religious formation, as well as other programs to help share our faith with those who long to hear the Good News of Christ. To learn more, visit www.usccb.org/latinamerica.

ROSARY FOR PEACE - The Rosary for peace for our country and our soldiers will be prayed every Thursday before 6:30am Mass.

PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS Almighty and eternal God, those who take refuge in You will be glad and forever will shout for joy. Protect these soldiers as they discharge their duties. Protect them with the shield of Your strength and keep them safe from all evil and harm. May the power of Your love enable them to return home in safety, that with all who love them, they may ever praise You for Your loving care. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
