In this Diocese of Truro we are deeply committed to ‘Discovering God’s Kingdom: Growing the Church’. Ordained ministers are crucial to this task, so I sketch out here the kind of priests we invite to work with us.

In this Diocese of Truro we are deeply committed to ‘Discovering God’s Kingdom: Growing the Church’. Ordained ministers are crucial to this task, so I sketch out here the kind of priests we invite to work with us.

First and foremost, we are looking for joyful disciples and ambassadorsof Christ, who share the Gospel they have come to know themselves both in word and deed - and above all with love. We seek people who are committed to setting the whole people of God free in mission, ministry, and in loving service. We are looking for people who, on this journey, are imaginative and realistic, creative and determined and are hopeful of a better future. But we also want to work with those who recognise that they are not perfect and will sometimes fail, who learn from their mistakes and will take the initiative in seeking reconciliation with others.

We are convinced that all ministers need the support and companionship of others and we help priests in a number of ways so that they never work alone.In this spirit, we encourage priests who can forge good relations with others and actively collaborate with them for the sake of the Kingdom to join us in Cornwall: a very special place with its own distinctive identity and Christian heritage which we are called to value, serve and love.

The benefice of Carbis Bay and Lelant has been in transition (aka ‘vacancy’)since the resignation of their former priest in October 2018. As the transition was not planned, the two parishes have needed to work hard to ensure that their life continues and to prepare this Statement of Needs. The usual work with a Transitions Adviser has been supplemented by two days with the Suffragan Bishop and another member of Diocesan Staff. The Vision for the Future below has arisen as a result of these two days.

It has been heartening to see the number of people who care deeply about the life of these churches, and who have been prepared to give of their time,energy and skills.

In addition to the parishes’ aspiration for their new priest (also below), we are looking for someone who can offer the spiritual leadership of a strong ministry team, who has very good people skills and can build the congregations as expressions of the body of Christ. Applicants need to be aware that deanery reorganisation in the future is likely to give rise to responsibilities beyond these two parishes.

ThebellsarerungonthethirdSundayofeachmonth,atpresent.MorefullpealshavebeenrungatStAntatowerthananyotherinTruroDioceseGuildofRingers(TDGR):asatend19November2018,220fullpealswererungatStAnta,thenexthighestbeingTruroCathedralwith117.

TheChurchHall StAntachurchhallwasbuiltin2000,markingthenewmillennium.IthasaseaKngcapacityof50,isimmediatelyadjacenttothechurchandisawell-usedfacility.

AswellaschurchmeeKngsandfund-raisingevents,ithostscommunitygroupssuchasAlcoholicsandNarcoKcsAnonymous.IthasregularweeklybookingsforacKviKessuchaspilates,taichi,yoga,linedancing,cameraclub,

communitychoirandbridge.Itisinuseeveryday.OccasionalbookingsforcelebraKoneventssuchaschildren’sbirthdaysarealsowelcomed.
