S t i r i n to F l a m e t h e G i f t o f G o d While spending time with my Spiritual Director a few months ago, he gave me this reflection and I wanted to share it with you. As we are now offi-cially in the 40th anniversary year of our parish, this might just “stir into flame” some your own thoughts as we are commemorating this year with ‘remembering, rejoicing, and re-imagining’.

Disturb us, Lord, when we are too pleased with ourselves, when our dreams have come true because we have dreamed too little,

when we arrived safely because we sailed too close to the shore.

Disturb us, Lord, when with the abundance of things we possess we have lost our thirst for the waters of life;

having fallen in love with life, we have ceased to dream of eternity and in our efforts to build a new earth, we have allowed our vision

of the new Heaven to dim.

Disturb us, Lord, to dare more boldly, to venture to wider seas where storms will show your mastery;

where losing sight of land, we shall find the stars.

We ask you to push back the horizons of our hopes; and to push into the future in strength, courage, hope, and love.

Attributed to Sir Francis Drake 1577

As I reflect on the early years of St. Tim-othy's humble beginning. I'm reminded of that first Christmas in Bethlehem; Je-sus was born in a stable, laid in a manger and wrapped in swaddling clothes. Just as those Shepherds came to worship and pay homage to the baby Jesus, the future

parishioners of St. Timothy's gathered together in a public school auditorium to worship at Mass cele-brated by a Priest from St. Catherine's Paris in La-guna Beach. Jesus, in the form of bread (host) and wine, was wrapped in table linens and laid in a suitcase, which was transported each week by the various families, in order to set up an altar and celebrate Mass. It was such an honor to have that suitcase in our home. It was as if Jesus Himself was our house guest for those special weeks. In comparison with that sparse simple stable where Jesus was born, there was no gold, silver or glowing candles in that auditorium, as in the established churches that most of us were accustomed to, but the Holy Spirit of God filled that place! The camara-derie of the little congregation was loving and joyful and has grown into lasting friendships. Through the desire to grow spiritually and expand; with much Prayer; serving on committees; helping each other and hard work, proved to be the start of something big, grand and wonderful: thus St. Timothy's Parish! July, 1980. Imagine our excitement, joy and pride when we officially celebrated our first mass in the multipurpose building, which is now the main hall, on April 3, 1982. I am so proud to be a member of St. Timothy's and am blessed to have had the opportunity to have served in various ministries over the years; as a Greeter; Collection Counter; RCIA Sponsor; CCD Teacher's Aide; Eucharistic and Bereavement Minis-ter, to name a few. My family members have re-ceived all of the Sacraments, with the exception of Holy Orders, here. My Husband, Avery, is a member of the Knights of Columbus and served as the Altar Server for funerals for many years. We were married here on October 18, 2008. We enjoy attending and participating in the many Spiritual enrichment op-portunities as well as the social events that St. Timothy provides. Last, but not least, I am grateful for the many Priests who have Shepherded us over the years. May God continue to bless St. Timothy's Parish Family. Violet Weeks-Sides, Parishioner since 1973
