Jesus, the Bread of Life

“I am the living bread that has come down from heaven, says the Lord; whoever eats this bread will live forever.”

Throughout salvation history, God has revealed his presence through his action of feeding his children. God gave Adam and

Eve a paradise and provided all they needed to eat and to drink, everything they needed to thrive. After fleeing Egyptian

slavery the Jewish people were given manna in the desert. They were given water from a rock. Over and over again, God

furnished the prophets with food in times of need. He knew the needs of His people and faithfully responded to them.

In today’s gospel God gives us his Son to satisfy our spiritual hunger. Jesus says: “I am the living bread that came down from

heaven; whoever eats this bread will live forever” The Bible records it very clearly and our Church teaches it.

At the Last Supper Jesus gives his first priests, the Apostles, the power to change bread and wine into His own Body and

Blood when He says, “Do this in memory of me.” This incredible change occurs through words. We should not be

surprised. In Genesis, God the Father creates everything that exists in nature through his word. “Let there be light” and light

comes into being. At the Mass, the simple nature of bread and wine is converted into the whole Jesus, body and blood, soul

and divinity. The human and the divine substance of the whole Christ becomes present on the altar through words. Every

single bit of bread and every last drop of wine has been changed.

In the Eucharist, Christ’s presence is above all the sacraments as “the perfection of the spiritual life and the end to which all

the sacrament tend.” It is not an over dramatization to say that without the Eucharist, there would be no Church. The Lord’s

presence in the Blessed Sacrament is an everlastingly wondrous gift to us. It is a gift that needs to be perceived by our minds,

hearts, and souls.

Jesus is fully present in this Holy Mass we are celebrating. We will receive His Real Presence in Communion. And at all

times, he remains present in His Church in the Tabernacle for our adoration. Today is a great opportunity to refresh our

reverence at Mass, to focus on the full significance of receiving Holy Communion. It is important that we keep our

attendance at Mass holy.

Jesús, el Pan de Vida

“Yo soy el pan vivo que ha bajado del cielo, dice el Señor; el que coma de este pan vivirá para siempre ".

A lo largo de la historia de la salvación, Dios ha revelado su presencia a través de su acción de alimentar a sus hijos. Dios les

dio a Adán y Eva un paraíso y les proporcionó todo lo que necesitaban para comer y beber, todo lo que necesitaban para

prosperar. Después de huir de la esclavitud Egipcia, al pueblo judío les dio maná en el desierto. Les dieron agua de una roca.

Una y otra vez, Dios proporcionó a los profetas alimentos en tiempos de necesidad. Él conocía las necesidades de su pueblo y

respondía fielmente a ellos.

En el evangelio de hoy, Dios nos da a su Hijo para satisfacer nuestra hambre espiritual. Jesús dice: "Yo soy el pan vivo que

ha bajado del cielo; el que come de este pan vivirá para siempre "La Biblia lo registra muy claramente y nuestra Iglesia lo

enseña.

En la Última Cena, Jesús da a sus primeros sacerdotes, los Apóstoles, el poder de cambiar el pan y el vino en su propio

Cuerpo y Sangre cuando dice: "Hagan esto en memoria mía". Este cambio increíble ocurre a través de las palabras. No

deberíamos sorprendernos. En Génesis, Dios el Padre crea todo lo que existe en la naturaleza a través de su palabra. "Hágase

la luz" y se crea la luz. En la misa, la naturaleza simple del pan y el vino se convierte en la totalidad Jesús, cuerpo y sangre,

alma y divinidad. La sustancia humana y divina de todo Cristo se hace presente en el altar a través de las palabras. Cada

pedazo de pan y cada gota de vino han sido cambiados.

En la Eucaristía, la presencia de Cristo es sobre todo los sacramentos como "la perfección de la vida espiritual y el fin al que

tiende todo el sacramento". No es una dramatización exagerada decir que sin la Eucaristía no habría Iglesia. La presencia del

Señor en el Santísimo Sacramento es un regalo perpetuamente maravilloso para nosotros. Es un regalo que debe ser percibido

por nuestras mentes, corazones y almas.

Jesús está completamente presente en esta Santa Misa que estamos celebrando. Recibiremos Su Presencia Real en Comunión.

Y en todo momento, él permanece presente en Su Iglesia en el Tabernáculo para nuestra adoración. Hoy es una gran

oportunidad para refrescar nuestra reverencia en la Misa, para enfocarnos en el significado completo de recibir la Sagrada

Comunión. Es importante que mantengamos Santa nuestra asistencia a la Misa.
