Homecommunionisofferedtosickandhouseboundpeopleandwehavetwolayassistantswhoareauthorisedtodothis.StGileshasgoodlinkswithBramhopePrimarySchool(nonchurchschool).ActivitiesincludeKidsClubattheschool,regularassembliesandsomeservicesinchurchforthepupils,parentsandstaff.Weholdamonthlyserviceofreadings,hymnsandprayersatthelocalresidentialhome,AshcroftHouse.ThechoiralsosingcarolsthereatChristmas.ThevicarworkscloselywiththeMethodistChurchandtheBritishLegionforaRemembranceDayserviceatthevillagememorial.TherearealsogoodlinkswithBramhopeMethodistwithsomejointservicesthroughouttheyear.StGilessupportsmanycharitiesincludingChristianAid,Children’sSociety,LeedsSocialServices,South&EastLeedsFoodbank,StGeorge’sCrypt,CaringforLifeandWheatfields.

TheDioceseofLeedsInthisnewdiocese,lessthanthreeyearsold,weareworkingwiththreecoreobjectives:ConfidentChristians:EncouragingpersonalspiritualrenewalwiththeaimofproducingclergyandlaitywhoareconfidentinGodandintheGospel.GrowingChurches:Numerically,spirituallyandintheirmissiontothewiderworld.Changingcommunities:Forthebetter,throughourpartnershipwithotherchurchesandfaithcommunities,aswellasgovernmentandthirdsectoragencies.TheDiocesecameintobeingatEaster2014followingthedissolutionofthehistoricdiocesesofBradford,Ripon&LeedsandWakefield.Thisfollowedathree-yearprocessofdebateandconsultationdrivenbytheDiocesesCommission.Backgroundpaperstothereorganisationprocesscanbereadatwww.wyadtransformation.orgTheDiocesecomprisesfiveEpiscopalAreas,eachcoterminouswithanArchdeaconry.ThisisnowoneofthelargestdiocesesinthecountryanditscreationisunprecedentedinthehistoryoftheChurchofEngland.Itcoversanareaofaround2,425squaremiles,andapopulationofaround2,642,400people.TheDiocesecomprisesmajorcities(Bradford,Leeds,Wakefield),largeindustrialandpost-industrialtowns(Halifax,Huddersfield,Dewsbury),markettowns(Harrogate,Skipton,Ripon,RichmondandWetherby),anddeeplyruralareas(theDales).Thewholeoflifeishere,alongwithalltherichness,diversityandcomplexitiesofachangingworld.TheDioceseisdissectedbymajormotorways(M1,A1M,M62)andmajortrunkroads(suchastheA650,A59),makingroadcommunicationsgood.Accesstootherformsoftransportisalsogood,withraillinkstoLondonandmanyNortherntownsandseveralairportsineasyreach.TheDiocesanBishopisassistedbyfiveAreaBishops(Bradford,Huddersfield,Richmond(withresponsibilityforLeeds),RiponandWakefield)andfivearchdeacons(Bradford,Halifax,Leeds,Pontefract,Richmond&Craven).WithintheDiocese,thereare323stipendiaryclergy,165self-supportingclergyand398clergywithPtOalongwith408Readers,125laypastoralministersand52chaplainsin656churcheswith256churchschools.TheDioceseisuniqueinhavingthreecathedrals,Bradford,RiponandWakefield,andoverthepastyearthecathedralshavebeguntoworktogetheronthekeydiocesanservicesaswellasdevelopingthreestrandsthattheywilloffertothediocese–pilgrimage,civicengagementandapologetics.Thisnewdiocese,ledbythebishops,isworkingouthowbesttocreateadiocesewithmorethanonecathedral,andtodeveloptheministryandoutreachofthesecathedralsinawaythatsecurestheirfutureandrecognisestheirdistinctiveness.TheDiocesehasinheritedstrongpartnershiplinkswiththeSudan,SriLanka,Tanzania,SouthwestVirginia,Skara(Sweden)andErfurt(Germany).
