* * * * * * * * Wednesday is A Holy Day

All Saints Day will be celebrated by Catholics worldwide on November 1st. Here at Holy Trinity, Masses will be celebrated on TUESDAY at 5:30 PM, and on WEDNESDAY at 7:30 AM, 9:00 AM, 12:15 PM, 5:30 PM and (in Spanish) at 7:00 PM.

Canonized (“officially listed”) saints [“holy ones”] are ordinary, deceased men, women and children, who did extraordinary things because they cooperated with the unique gifts God gave them. Their lives have been investigated and declared “heroic” and “worthy of imitation.” We believe they are alive and perfectly happy in God’s Presence (Heaven). All Souls Day, November 2nd, is not a Holy Day. Mass will be celebrated as usual at 9:00 AM, 5:30 PM, and 7:00 PM in Spanish. At the entrance of the church there are special All Souls envelopes to be kept on the altar during the month of November. You may list the names of family and friends you would like remembered in prayer. * * * * * * * *

Daylight Savings ends next week – Don’t forget to “fall back”!

Holy Trinity Census PLEASE HELP US KNOW YOU BETTER!

We are completing the required Annual Archdiocesan Sacramental Report this week and carefully noting the weekend Mass attendance. In an attempt to update all of our parishioner records, we ask that the head of each and every parishioner household please fill out one of the PARISH CENSUS sheets you will find in the pews. Place your copy in any of the collections TODAY. It is imperative that we have accurate parishioner records so we can serve you better.

We promise NOT to: – sign you up for parish envelopes, OR – use your email for routine contacts, OR – give your information to anyone else.

* * * * * * * * “Putting a Face on the Name”

Weekdays in Our Church From Monday through Saturday, in the middle aisle of our church, there is a black binder, entitled Putting a Face on the Name. It contains a full-page (non-sentimental) reproduction of a painting or photo of the saint, memorialized each day of the month. Each faces a mini-biography, edited from Saint of the Day by the noted theologian, Father Richard McBrien. Check it out! Show the kids! Holy Trinity Hurricane Relief Collection

Wishing to help with ongoing relief efforts, many parishioners have asked if Holy Trinity would have a collection to aid the victims of the recent hurricane and natural disasters. Today we are taking up that collection, which we will present to the Archdiocese in your name. Special “Disaster Relief” envelopes are available at the entrance of the church.

Twenty Years – And Counting! The CRC – Contemporary Roman Catholics – is unique among faith-based organizations, or most other organizations even. It is not a singles group. It is not a young marrieds group. It is not an over-40’s or sports or culinary or spiritual retreat or trips-and-outings group. Rather – it is all of these! The CRC will celebrate its 20th Anniversary this Saturday, Nov. 4th, with Mass at 11:00 AM, followed by brunch in the Murphy Center. Celebrants for this special day will be Msgr. Leonard, Msgr. Sandi, Fr. Gary Mead, Fr. Koterski, Fr. Andrew O’Connor, and Msgr. John Cervini. Reservations not required, but so that the planners can have an idea of how many will be attending, you may sign up at meetup.com/crcnyc/events. A $30 donation for the brunch is requested. All are welcome! Bring the kids! Old-timer, newbie, never-been-but-interested – be part of this special day.

Sophia, ChurchMouse Reporting unseen works of faith, hope and charity to uplift you.

Enjoy this quote from Father Ron Rolheiser, OMI. “Where does God speak in our world? How does God speak? Whenever you hear a voice that sounds coercive, threatening, overbearing, that is somehow loud and in your face, you can be sure that, no matter how ‘religious and holy’ it might claim to be, it is not God’s voice. God’s voice in this world is never coercive or overbearing in any way, but is always an invitation and a beckoning that respects you and your freedom in a way that no human institution or person ever does. God’s voice is thoroughly underwhelming, like a baby’s presence.”

* * * * * * * * Holy Trinity/Ascension Homeless Shelter The Homeless Shelter has long been one of Holy Trinity’s main outreach programs. A few years ago we joined with Ascension Church on 107th, scheduling the sleepover for Saturday and Sunday nights and moving to Ascension where their facilities can provide shelter for up to 20 homeless men. The Shelter is run entirely by volunteers and help is always needed. The work is divided into: Sleeper – stay the night, with 2-3 other volunteers.

Set out light breakfast. Area of greatest need (Approx. 7PM-7AM)

Greeter – welcome guests and stay for dinner, both English & Spanish (Approx. 6-8:30PM)

Cook – 3 people bring dinner; cook & serve; clean up (Approx. 5-9PM) (You can help, even if you can’t bring food! Contact a volunteer.)

Set-Up –3 people set up cots & blankets, help serve dinner, bring salad, bread & milk. (Approx. 6-9PM)

This winter, the Shelter will take up a collection of new socks, new thermal underclothes, new or gently used hats, gloves, and scarves. We can also accept donations of toiletries, especially the small, travel sized ones. Watch the bulletin for dates and details. This is a great opportunity for families and friends to get together, to help together. To volunteer contact: [email protected]. The Shelter runs Saturday and Sunday nights, from September through June. Questions may be directed to Ms. Robin Klueber: [email protected].
