Parents of Boys and Girls, Grade 5 and Older

Boys and girls in the 5th grade and older will soon be invited to be trained and then formally blessed as Trinity Altar Servers. It’s a great honor to assist the priest in the celebration of the Eucharist for our parish-ioners. Serving Mass also displays an excellent model of prayer and good behavior for other children. Please consider it; give them the opportunity to shine! Watch the Bulletin for an announcement in September.

Wednesday is a Holy Day! The Solemnity of the Assumption will be celebrated by Catholics around the world on August 15th. On November 1, 1950, Pope Pius XII defined the Assumption of Jesus’ mother as infallible.

“We pronounce, declare and define it to be a divinely revealed dogma that the immaculate Mother of God, the ever-Virgin Mary, having completed the course of her earthly life, was assumed body and soul to heaven glory.”

Please join your fellow parishioners in reverencing the Virgin Mary at the celebration of the Eucharist. It’s one of only six Holy Days on the American Liturgical Calendar, each of us is committed to observe as a Catholic. Tuesday 5:30 PM Vigil Mass Wednesday 7:30 AM, 9:00 AM, 12:15 PM, 5:30 PM, and in Spanish, 7:00 PM

The Catechism of the Catholic Church: The Death Penalty

In today’s Bulletin INSERT, you can read the official letter sent by the Congregation of the Faith to all the Bishops of the world concerning the revision of #2267 of the Catechism of the Catholic Church. It’s very important for all of us to know why Pope Francis ordered the revision.

Volunteer as a Catechist! Be part of a program that touches hearts and trans-forms lives. Volunteer as a Catechist (religion teach-er) and pass on the Gift of Faith that was given to you. Opportunities for Sunday mornings to work with our youngest children & Monday evenings. No experience necessary; a willingness to give of your self, critical. Training and user-friendly class guides available. Contact Colleen Glazer, [email protected]. * * * * * * * * REGISTRATION FOR RELIGIOUS EDUCATION

Have You Noticed? There are no second collections in the months of July and August. We do this on purpose and out of respect for external Charities and you, dear parishioners! Thank you for being so very generous! * * * * * * * * Lines to be Taken to Heart I dreamt death came to me one night, and heaven’s gates flew open wide. With kindly grace St. Peter came and ushered me inside. There to my astonishment were friends I had known on earth. Some I had labeled as unfit and some of little worth. Indignant words flew to my lips: Words I could not set free, for every face showed stunned surprise – No one expected me. * * * * * * * *

Why Not Offer a Mass for Someone You Love?

It is a long-standing tradition in the Church to offer Masses for family, friends and loved ones. Mass cards can be taken to a wake or sent to a family, letting them know they are in your prayers. By noting an anni-versary, we keep our memories fresh, never forgetting those we loved in life. And, of course, Masses can be offered for the living, for matters of health or other special intentions. Masses may be arranged at the Rectory; the usual offering is $15 * * * * * * * *

+ Holy Trinity – 10 Years Ago +

“from the archives!” This Week Today the Grotto officially opens with another “Taste of the Upper West Side,” a fabulous smorgasbord of samplings of foods from our favorite restaurants of the Upper West Side. $20 will provide you with a feast! The CRC has a lot of great activities lined up, including a guided Walking Tour of Central Park, a Met Museum tour of the Golden Age of Venetian painting, and evening at Tavern on the Green – check them out at their website. (4/13/08) Eyes on the Prize We had an enthusiastic response this past Lent to the drive held by one of our Religious Ed. classes to collect eyeglasses for the needy. We are very proud of our kids. Congratulations! They collected 142 pairs of glasses, cleaned and packed them to be shipped to an organization in Africa that recycles them for people unable to pay for glasses. Please be sure to see the poster by the entrance of the church, describing their work. (4/13/08)
