As parent’s and a part of the community we have very busy life styles. But it is crucial that, as parents we are involved with our children. Parent’s are a big role during the adolescent period of a child. Physical, language, cognitive, and social development are developing at school and at home. I am here to show you how you play that role in your child’s life, and how it is affected. During the adolescent period, as parents we think that they do not need much attention, because they are already able to take care of themselves. This is not true. During this period of development the child is going through several changes, the child is going to need guidance, advice, and someone to talk to. “The attachments children form with their parents and siblings usually last a lifetime and serve as models for relationships in the wider world of neighborhood and school (Berk, p. 567, 2013).”

As a parent you need to know how they are doing in school, who their friends are, and what they do after school. As a parent you need to be aware of peer pressure, during this period of development, peer pressure is very common. Make sure that you have an open relationship with your child, therefore they can come up to you and talk to you about anything. Communication is such a key factor in adolescence.
