Learning Options

• Due to teacher service, Renaissance will be a complete virtual school for the first quarter. This means all teacher instruction will be done on the TEAMs Virtual Platform.

• Families who want a school building structure, we are offering a workspace for students in our Learning Center.

Renaissance Learning Center

The Renaissance Learning Center is a space facilitated by Administration Team, School Culture Team and building substitutes which will allow your student to work virtually on their device.

The Learning Lab Is:

• A safe, quiet, organized space to allow students to work virtually

• A place where students will receive breakfast and lunch daily

The Learning Lab IS NOT:

• Facilitated by a Certified Teacher

• Not a study group where students will be working collectively

• Not a drop-in program. Students are expected to be in the lab for the entire day

• Social Outlet, while we understand the need for students to socialize this environment will be very self paced, work centered and focused

• Mute your mic while the teacher or a classmate is speaking.

• Type questions in the chat so that you do not interrupt class.

Renaissance Learning Protocols

Student Expectations:

• Student cameras must be on during attendance. Each teacher has the discretion to determine when student cameras must be on beyond attendance.

• Students must be logged – in and prepared (with course materials) for class before class starts as it is in a face-to-face class.

• Learning is an activity that requires your participation; various platforms (Teams, Schoology, etc) will be utilized. You need to be familiar with these applications. All students will be expected to be active in every class and check their DPSCD email daily.

• Students should be appropriately dressed for class. Students should have on appropriate clothing during class hours. You are to be dressed as you would for a class in an appropriate location. Be mindful of your surroundings’ sight and sound.

• Just like in face-to-face classes, review prior course assignments, notes, and videos.

• RHS’s online learning / instruction must not be confused with other ‘virtual learning’ (asynchronous) which can occur depending personal schedule. Online instruction will be interactive with a teacher online daily.

• RHS will follow the Student Code of Conduct as it relates to academic misconduct, plagiarism and improper unauthorized access to or tamper with educational materials.

Parent Expectations:

• Dedicate a space in the house as a “learning space” so that the student can work independently. This can be any space with room to work and store materials that won’t be disrupted for the duration of the distance learning.

• Monitor your student’s progress and achievements through PowerSchool and Schoology weekly.

• Encourage your student to prioritize this online learning experience.

• RHS’s online learning / instruction must not be confused with other ‘virtual learning’ (asynchronous) which can occur depending personal schedule. Online instruction will be interactive with a teacher online daily.

Teacher Expectations:

• For an optimum learning experience, teachers’ cameras are to be on for the duration of class.

• Teachers must start on time.

• Attendance should be marked within the first 10 mins with correct marking.

• Deadlines for assignments need to be firm and clear.

• Two graded assignments weekly. They need to be returned with feedback within 5 days of submission.

• As outlined in your course syllabus, there should be consistent grading categories.

• A clear outline of online expectations should always available to a student via whatever means needed.

• Two grades should be recorded in PowerSchool each week.

Learning Center Protocols

• 9th & 10th graders will enter through Door 1, 11th & 12th graders will enter through Door 6.

• Upon entering, all students will temperature check and conduct health screening.

• Face coverings are required at all times.

• Students must be in the Learning Center at 8:00am.

• Students will sit in the same desk daily.

• Students must bring their district issued device, fully charged.

• Students must bring noise reduction headphones with a microphone.

• Students must be in dress code daily. Khaki or burgundy pants, skirts or shorts with white or burgundy collared shirts. Sweaters may be necessary and should also be in dress code colors.

• Students should be mindful and courteous of their classmates near them as they may be in a different online class.

• There will be no locker usage throughout the day.

• When assistance is needed for a class, students should contact their teacher to setup time to work with their teacher after school or during seminar using the various platforms (Teams, Schoology, etc.).

SMART SAFETY MEASURES

For students and staff learning in our buildings, we will implement safety measures. DPSCD was allocated $85 million in CARES Act funding to implement COVID-19 safety measures to ensure the health and wellness of students, teachers and staff. To date, the district’s board has approved $25 million in spending for personal protective equipment, temperature stations, cleaning supplies and classroom safety items. We have also increased the frequency of custodial services to include daily cleaning and sanitization.

School safety measures include, but are not limited to:

• COVID-19 testing for employees

• Training on healthy hygiene practices for students and staff

• Daily temperature and self-symptom checks for employees and students

• Required use of masks; reusable masks will be provided to all students and staff

• Expansion of nursing services in every school

• Hand sanitizer in each classroom and regular restocking of soap in bathrooms.

SMART SAFETY MEASURES CONTINUED

Daily Deep Cleaning

Classrooms, offices and shared

spaces will be cleaned daily

with EPA-recommended

disinfecting products. All

spaces have a posted cleaning

log. Custodial staff will

complete the log daily showing

that a specific room/area has

been cleaned (high-touch hard

surfaces disinfected).

All buildings and busses

cleaned and disinfected prior to

staff and students returning.

COVID Testing

Before returning to work, all employees

need a negative viral Covid-19 test. While

students were tested for Summer School,

student testing is not required for the fall.

If a student or family member has

symptoms, you can be tested without a

prescription at the City of Detroit drive-

through testing sites. All tests require an

appointment. To schedule a test, call 313-

230-0505.

for other testing sites near you, including

those that do not require insurance.

Monitoring and Accountability

As the District implements

safety guidelines, a team of 4

people will monitor safety daily

in schools and complete daily

compliance reports.

RESPONSE TO CONFIRMED CASES

DPSCD is working closely with the Detroit Health Department and state authorities through this pandemic,

including on a response plan in the case that a positive case is confirmed.

This includes:

• Proactive communication about confirmed cases once information is confirmed with public health officials
