Heterogeneous Grouping Math Compacting & REACH TERC Investigations

Math Grouping Begins – High and Heterogeneous Classes – fixed percentage of students in classes

Placement Process to be completed by the end of September of the 5th grade year

Criteria: grade 4 end of year test (top 60% of class)

grade 4 math grades (all A’s on Report Card)

NJASK4 Score (top 50% or top 30%) Waivers will not be permitted at the 5th Grade

Textbook – Harcourt 5 Text/Glencoe Course 1(Pacing and Sequence to be determined by 5th

grade math teachers) Compacting – Groups determined at the

beginning of each chapter to ensure all students are challenged. Glencoe Course 2 text may be used as one material for compacting.

If in Course 3 Hetero Class 93> = J, 83-92 = K lower than 83 = pre-algebra in grade 8

Algebra Pre-Readiness Identification Test – 80%> J level, 70%> K level and 69%< Pre-Algebra

All 7th grade Pre-Algebra students are guaranteed entrance into Algebra K minimally.

Waiver requests will be granted, except students may not waive from Hetero 7 to Algebra J (after one marking period if required grade average is not maintained, student will be moved to appropriate class level – 70 GPA in K and 83 in J).
