Students earn a Carnegie unit (also known as high school
credit) when they earn a passing grade in a class.
The following grade levels must earn the credits indicated to
be promoted at the end of the school year:
Freshmen (9th) – earn 6 credits 10th
Sophomores (10th) – earn 12 credits 11th
Juniors (11th) – earn 18 credits 12th
Practice ACT – Taken in 9th grade
Pre-ACT – Taken in 10th grade
ACT – Taken in 11th grade, 12th grade or BEFORE
PSAT – Taken in 10th and 11th grades
SAT – Taken in 11th grade, 12th grade or BEFORE
Tests for College and Scholarships
Test scores count if you want to qualify for classes where you can earn college credits. These courses are:
Dual Enrollment Courses
Advanced Placement (AP) Courses
CLEP Test (i.e., Psychology, Sociology, Biology II)
Earning College Credits in High School
Students must meet both requirements listed below:
-- Pre-ACT test scores for subject area and
-- A’s and B’s both quarters for subject area in 10th grade
Students currently taking honors and AP classes this school
year do NOT automatically qualify for honors and AP courses
next school year.
AP Language and Composition (in place of English III) has a
required summer reading assignment due on the first day of
school (August 2017).
Financial Aid
Louisiana is requiring all graduates in Spring of 2018 and
beyond to complete the Louisiana Office of Financial
Student Assistance (LOSFA) or the Free Application for
Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form for financial aid, or
complete a waiver for non-completion.
As a result of completing these forms, students will be able
to determine which grants, work study and loans they are
eligible for.
