Curriculum Outline
Year 12
Languages
Students have six lessons a week with two teachers (Lisa-Marie Volcere and Patricia De
Jesus). The AQA specification is divided into two main subject areas, called themes. Each theme is divided into three sub-themes making a total of six sub-themes to be covered during the course. The foreign languages which we offer are French
and Spanish
For the study of Arabic, both A and B, the curriculum is set by the Ministry and all teachers are qualified to the required
KHDA standard.
RESPECT – ASPIRATION

COLLABORATION - RESPONSIBILITY
Arabic A and Arabic BArabic is part of our Languages faculty and is a core subject at the College. We follow the KHDA curriculum.
Our aim is to reflect the UAE vision that all school children will develop high skills in Arabic, looking to give them an advantage over others in the years to come – both when applying to University and when entering the jobs market.
We recognize and celebrate the Arabic language, through the 4 key skills of reading, writing, speaking and listening in Arabic across the year.
We want our students to love the language and to appreciate its applicability in over 20 countries with roughly 300 million native speakers.
In fact, The British Council’s research puts Arabic in second place of the languages most needed by the UK in the next twenty years and there is already a high demand and low supply of Arabic-speakers in the Western world.

Students who make a habit of the Weekly
Review are often much calmer and less stressed
The Weekly Review
Academic studies show that cramming and binging isn’t successful.
Students need to “snack” regularly not “binge” at the end of the year
Productivity is significantly improved by doing the work frequently - don’t leave it to pile up. Too many students leave a lesson and never revisit it until April/May
The Weekly Review has been adapted from Dave Allen’s “Getting Things Done” 2002
This can be done by developing a weekly habit: The Weekly Review
The Weekly Review
Support your son/ daughter by setting aside one golden hour each week
Make sure you are at home during this hour to reinforce it, try and make it happen at the same time and day each week
You will need to guide your son/ daughter through the process the first few times
Phones must be left in a different room, computers must not be online ( turning of the wifi is a good idea)
Never swap this hour for something else and never skip it
The Weekly Review
Split the hour up evenly, I suggest 15 minutes per A Level course.
For that 15 minutes, the students should review what they have learnt that week in that subject
● Are notes legible and in order?
● Summarise learning into diagrams/ flashcards/ mindmaps
● Highlight work they have found hard - this will need further attention in study periods
● Go through all jobs/ homeworks, make a prioritised list of jobs for the week ahead
