How Our School Is Organised
At Eagley Infants we have 6 full time classes and two part time Nursery
classes.
Nursery
A maximum of 26 children aged 3-4 years. This is the first
year of the Foundation Stage and is taught by a teacher
and a Higher Level Teaching Assistant. Each adult has ‘Key
Person’ responsibility for a group of children.
Class
E and F
A maximum of 30 children aged 4-5 years are taught in each
class by a class teacher with a teaching assistant. The five
adults work closely as a team and each has ‘Key Person’
responsibility for a group of children. This is the second and
final year of the Foundation Stage.
Class
C and D
A maximum of 30 children aged 5-6 years are taught in each
class by a class teacher. The classes are supported by one
full time and one part time classroom assistant. This is the first
year of Key Stage One.
Class
A and B
A maximum of 30 children aged 6-7 years are taught in each
class by a class teacher. The classes are supported by one
full time and one part time classroom assistant. This is the
second and final year of Key Stage One.
All class teachers have time each week when they plan, prepare and assess
their lessons.
At these times our children work with a Sports Coach or Mrs Clarkson who
teaches French and Music.

Childcare Provision
We have excellent before and after school care available in our school. The
well qualified staff are committed to providing the best possible care for the
infant and junior pupils who use our club, and best possible service to our
parents. A wide variety of activities are always available, such as art and
craft, role play, construction, ICT, and staff play active games with the
children in the hall and outside. The children are usually grouped according
to their age (juniors or infants), reflecting their changing needs and interests.
We also have regular specialists visiting to deliver drama, dance, gymnastics
and other sports. Some of these activities are also made available, for a
small fee, to infant children not requiring childcare. Breakfast or a light tea is
provided each day.
During the holidays, club staff create exciting themed weeks including visits
and local days out. For more details please speak with our club manager.
The School Day Arrival
School opens at 8.45am allowing 10 minutes for children to arrive, take off
their coats and enjoy some independent tasks before school starts. This
eases congestion around school in the morning by staggering arrival times
and allows the children to settle in school before registration at 8.55am. If
arriving after this time please leave your child with the office staff. Nursery
children start at 8.45am for the morning session and 12.30pm for the
afternoon session. The children are brought into school by their parent or
carer.
Playtimes and Snacks
In Foundation Stage the children have milk and fruit available for when they
choose to take their snack. In Key Stage One parents may order milk on a
termly basis for a small charge and all pupils are offered a piece of fruit at
playtime. We also provide each child with a water bottle when they begin
school, and Nursery children have access to a jug of fresh water. The
children bring home their bottle each day to be washed and refilled. The
bottles can also be refilled during the day if required and are always
available for the children to drink from.
Lunchtimes
Lunchtime is from 11.50am to 1.10pm. We have Lunchtime Supervisors to
care for the children. We encourage the children to be independent so
whilst they are encouraged to eat well and use good table manners they
decide for themselves when they have had enough to eat. If your child
does have eating problems please speak to the staff in the office or your
child’s teacher.
10
School Meals
As the school has its own kitchen, meals are cooked on the premises. In line
with the school healthy eating policy, interesting low salt, high fibre meals are
prepared.
Dinner money is payable on Monday mornings and should be sent in an
envelope marked with name and class, plastic wallets are also available
from the office. Meals can be provided free depending upon parental
income. Do not hesitate to apply via the council to see if you qualify. Our
system means that only the administrative staff know who is in receipt of a
free meal. Please make every effort to send dinner money in on time. You
may pay half termly in advance if this is more convenient and any meals not
taken will be credited.
N.B. A school meal must be ordered by 10.30am so, if your child is going to
arrive late for any reason, please telephone to order a meal. Conversely,
meals cannot be cancelled after 10.30am if your child has to go out of
school and we have not been informed.
Sandwiches
Children may bring a packed lunch if parents so wish but please note we
have no chilled storage facilities. Children bringing a packed lunch may
bring a non-fizzy drink in a screw top container. Your child’s lunchbox will
need to be labelled. Any uneaten food will be sent home so you can see if
you are sending too much. Please do not put chocolate and sweets in your
child’s packed lunch. Please note that due to some children having severe
nut allergies we request that parents pack a ‘nut-free’ lunch, including
cereal bars containing nuts.
Home Time
The school day finishes at
3.20pm (Nursery 11.45am and
3.30pm). School must be
informed if your child is going
home with someone other
than yourself or your usual
child minder. We are unable
to send children home with
anyone under 14 years of
age. If your child is to leave
earlier than the normal
finishing time, please arrange
to collect him/

School Uniform
Items of clothing have been selected so as to be available generally and
they are stocked by many shops selling school
wear.
Items of uniform with the school logo are
available to buy from Harrisons on Blackburn
Road, where it is possible to try on items prior to
buying.
To ensure that parents have a choice of where
they purchase uniform, Marks and Spencer still
supply our uniform with logo, although this is
online only and there is a cost for delivery.
The new website can be found at
www.mandsyourschooluniform.com
The children will need elastic-topped/
Velcro plimsolls together with a drawstring
shoe bag for P.E.
Please ensure that all items of clothing,
plimsolls, wellingtons and any other
personal belongings are clearly marked with your child’s name.
Children with longer hair are encouraged to keep it tied back. As well as
being a health and safety issue in P.E. it is one of the ways to try and keep
head lice at bay.

Things For You To Know
Illness and Medicine
It is important that your child remains at home if they are ill for the wellbeing
of themselves and others. We ask that children who have suffered from
sickness and diarrhoea do not attend school until there have been no
symptoms for 24 hours. Parents should notify school of specific medical
complaints or allergies which may require special treatment of any kind so
that together we are able to develop an individual health plan. If your child
requires medication during school hours please see the office staff who will
ask you to complete a form giving details of dosage and consent for
administration. Each request is considered individually but only prescription
medicine can be administered.
If your child becomes ill in school we will do our best to contact you so you
can collect him or her and take them home. Please ensure to keep the
office up to date with any changes in address or telephone numbers so we
can get in touch with you quickly. Should your child have an accident in
school that we feel requires extra attention we will do our best to contact
you so that you can decide whether or not to take them to the doctor or
hospital. If we are unable to contact you we will take your child to the local
accident unit but will continue to try to make contact with you.
Behaviour
Pupils take part in developing class and school rules at the beginning of
each year. These are mainly concerned with safety and respect for others.
We take a positive approach to discipline, looking for children who are
doing ‘the right thing’. Parents are made aware of our expectations and the
children are encouraged to take pride in their achievements and be aware
of the needs of others. Our Friday assembly takes the form of a celebration
assembly where each teacher nominates a member of the class to be Star
of the Week and another member of the class receives the Act of Kindness
award.
On the rare occasions when unacceptable behaviour persists, parents will
be invited into school so that we can solve the problem together.
Jewellery
Studs in pierced ears and watches are permitted. For health and safety
reasons earrings must be removed or covered with sticking plaster by the
child before taking part in P.E. sessions. This can be difficult so we advise that
on P.E. days children do not wear earrings.
13
Absence
If your child should need to be absent from school for whatever reason,
please contact us first thing in the morning by telephone, email or by a note,
confirming that the child is safe at home with you. We ask that you notify
school in advance of pending hospital, dental or clinic appointments. No
child will be allowed out of school during school hours unless accompanied
by an adult. Once your child returns to school it is essential that we have a
note stating the reason for absence. Requests for leave of absence are
considered on an individual basis and must be made in advance in writing.
The head teacher can only give permission for holidays during term time in
‘exceptional’ circumstances. For further information please see the
Attendance Policy on the website.
Equal Opportunities
The school has an equal opportunity
policy providing a working
environment in which diversity and
differences are respected and
valued, so promoting self esteem,
self confidence, co-operation and
respect for others. The delivery and
content of the curriculum is planned
to promote equal opportunities for
all seeking to develop the individual
abilities of each pupil, regardless of
race, creed, gender or disability.
Governors and staff have
developed an Inclusion Statement
which outlines our commitment to
meeting the needs of our school
community. This links to Equal
Opportunities and many other
policies in school.
Child Protection
Because of the day-to-day contact with children, schools are particularly
well placed to observe outward signs of abuse, changes in behaviour or
failure to develop. Parents should be aware therefore that where it
appears to a member of staff that a child may have been abused,
neglected or endangered, the school is required as part of the local Child
Protection procedures to report their concerns. The Child Protection Policy is
available in school.
14
Outdoor Learning
The outdoor environment is important for learners across school. For this
reason we ask for all children to have a named pair of wellingtons in school
at all times. Throughout the year children in Reception and Nursery classes
take part in Forest School sessions. We visit a local woodland area to enjoy
hands on learning experiences in our natural world. The sessions aim to follow
the children’s interest and they learn how to keep safe and respect our
woodlands, creature and plant life. During these sessions we value parental
support. Year 1 and 2 pupils use the specially designed learning area on the
banking to support their learning across the curriculum.
Sex Education
Our Governors have chosen not to include sex education in our school
curriculum. We address issues on family, feelings, health and growth but it is
felt more appropriate for our age of children that sex education be
addressed within the home. If a child shows an obvious desire for
information, school will inform parents and assist with resources.
Special Needs
Children requiring special attention are identified through our tracking
systems and the teacher’s knowledge of how a child is working within the
classroom. Most children make progress through appropriate tasks in the
classroom, small group work and parental support. School will seek help
from external agencies if a child’s progress continues to cause concern.
The stated aim of our special needs policy is to develop self-esteem and a
feeling of self-worth in our pupils, all of whom have a valuable contribution to
make to school life.
It is important to provide appropriately for children having special needs to
ensure that they receive a broad, balanced, relevant and appropriate
curriculum. The school follows the Code of Practice in identifying, supporting
and reviewing special needs. Our Special Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO)
has responsibility for
co-ordinating the support for special educational needs and the training
needs of staff. Children receive support from appropriate outside agencies
according to their needs. Parents are invited to participate in the
programme of study to support their child. The school believes
wholeheartedly in the home/school partnership.
15
Parents And School
Your Involvement
The school is very proud of relationships with parents which have built up
over the years and we do take seriously our responsibilities to keep everyone
fully informed of what is happening. We are delighted that parents are
prepared to give their time on a regular basis to help with a variety of tasks in
school. New volunteers are always welcome! We also value the input from
grandparents.
Early in the school year we have a Welcome Meeting for each year group.
The purpose is not to discuss individual children, but to inform you about
school expectations and the curriculum. Parents are also invited into school
to discuss their child’s progress with class teachers twice during the school
year. We also have a regular ‘Pop In’ after school for children to share what
they have been learning. In the meantime should there be any concerns
about any aspect of a child’s life in school, we would ask parents to come
into school to discuss the matter. If this discussion is likely to take some time,
please ring school to make an appointment.
The school has a very lively and supportive Friends and Family of Eagley
(FAFOE) group. All parents of children in school are most welcome to join in
their activities. The group exists to raise funds for the school and to provide
opportunities for parents to meet socially. Members of FAFOE will be present
at the meeting for new parents and will be happy to talk about events
throughout the year.
Safety of Children
It is vital for the safety of all our children that parents bringing children to
school by car:
park well away from the lines outside the school gates;
do not drive up the school approach road;
avoid double parking on Stonesteads Drive as this is a bus route;
park with regard for residents and other road users.
Parking in the neighbourhood is severely limited and careless parking causes
problems for the neighbours and essential services. Please see your child
safely across Stonesteads Drive each day and remind them frequently of the
need to be alert, so supporting work on road safety being regularly carried
out in school.
16
Complaints Procedure
In the first instance, please see your child’s teacher who may be able to
address your concerns. If you are still anxious please make an appointment
to see the Head teacher. We find most problems can be resolved in this
way, however if you are still dissatisfied there is a formal complaints
procedure and details are available on request.
Communication
We aim to ensure that our families are regularly informed about what is
happening in and around school. We do this in a variety of ways.
The Newsletter - this is published each Friday and is available by
email and on the website. Paper copies can also be collected
from the office.
Email - our office email is checked at frequent intervals during the
school day. During holiday periods it is also checked regularly and
is usually the most effective way of contacting school.
Texting Service - short messages and reminders are sent to the
priority mobile number for each pupil. These may be sent to all
families or targeted for particular groups or individuals. On
occasion the service will be opened up to parental responses.
Telephone - When staff are unable to answer, please leave a
message on the answer phone and we will return your call as soon
as possible.
Quick Drop - a locked mailbox is located on the wall in the
entrance hall opposite the office window. This is used for posting
notes for staff, payments for trips, dinner money etc.

Jargon Buster
When new families join our school community we sometimes forget that they
don’t know what we mean by certain phrases, or what the expectations are
for certain events, hopefully the list below will help!
Clothesline (also
known as
Bags4School)
This is a fundraising activity organised by our Friends and
Family of Eagley (FAFOE) group. Unwanted items that are
clean and suitable for reuse, such as clothes, shoes, bags
and bedding, should be put into bin bags and dropped
off at school on the collection day advertised on the
newsletter. Books can also be boxed up and left for
collection. FAFOE are paid by weight for everything
collected.
Duck Race This is an event that takes place each summer in
Bradshaw organised by our local Rotary Club. They allow
FAFOE to sell tickets with the entire profit going to FAFOE
funds.
FAFOE Friends and Family of Eagley are our support group of
parents, friends and staff who work together to arrange
social and fundraising events for our school community.
Fashion Show This event is a popular adults only evening where heavily
discounted clothes from well known brands are shown
and sold.

Gardening
Gardening is a really important part of our outdoor
learning, and we have planned days each year when we
ask parents, grandparents and other adults into school to
help their children in the school grounds.
Individual
Learning Meeting Twice a year teachers meet with children and their
parents to talk about how well they are learning.
Non-Uniform Day This is when the children are allowed to dress in their own
casual clothes, or dressing up clothes in exchange for a
donation. This may be for a charity or an item for a FAFOE
event, e.g. Easter egg or raffle prize.
Parents Pop-in This takes place straight after school regularly, and are an
opportunity for parents to look at what their children have
been doing in class. The teachers are on hand for a chat.
Sports Day These take place in the Summer Term with the Foundation
Stage event in the morning and Key Stage 1 in the
afternoon. Parents are welcome to bring blankets and
cushions to sit on the banking around the playground.
Woodland Walk This is an opportunity for the children to cross the field
behind school and visit the woods at the Junior school.
There they are able to learn lessons including safety, risk
taking, and caring for our environment.
18
Additional Information for Nursery Parents
Key Person
Each child has a Key Person, either Mrs Marler or Mrs Hull, who will develop a
strong relationship with your child and take special interest in their
development. The Key Person groups are known as the Busy Bees or the
Shiny Stars.
Attendance
Once a place in Nursery Class has been accepted, your child will be
expected to attend regularly, otherwise the place is wasted and other
children may be waiting. Should your child need to be absent through
illness or for any other reason, please notify school on the first day of
absence.
Nursery Uniform
A royal blue Nursery sweatshirt and yellow polo shirt is available to buy from
Harrisons or ordered from the Marks and Spencer website. The vast majority
of children wear the uniform in Nursery to avoid ‘best’ clothes being ruined,
as provision is made for children to participate in a range of ‘messy play’
activities. Outdoor overalls are provided in order to enable the children to
learn outdoors throughout the year, although each child needs to have a
pair of wellies of their own in nursery.
