Literacy

Clap and count syllables in words

• Go on a syllable hunt in your home. Look for things/objects that have 1, 2, or 3 syllables or word parts. Tell your child the number of syllables to look for. Say, “We are looking for objects that have two syllables.” Find the object, say what it is and clap the number of syllables. Ex: tooth-brush – 2 syllables; com-pu-ter – 3 syllables.

Math

Practice counting objects from 1-10

• Play a counting game using items in your house. Think of things your child can practice counting 1-10. For example, How many chairs around the kitchen table? How many windows in the living room? How many books on the table? Count and ask, “How many?”

Social Emotional

Demonstrate appropriate good talking words for

manners, sharing, turn taking and compliments

• Practice using good manner words (please & thank you), sharing, taking turns and giving compliments at dinner/snack time and play time. Model words for giving a compliment. “You are a good friend.” I like your picture.” I like your rainbow shirt.” Refer to the page and pictures at the end of the packet.

Literacy

Identify sounds &

letters previously

taught with support

• Cut out small paper circles and write any letters of

the alphabet on them to review. Put them in a

bowl or dish. Say, “Bubblegum, bubblegum in the

dish, pick any letter that you wish.” Child picks a

“bubblegum” letter, says the name and sound of

the letter and places it on the bubblegum

dispenser picture found at the end of the packet.

Math

Say the number

created by joining

and separating sets

within 5

• Use the ocean math mat at the end of the packet,

and gold fish crackers, cereal pieces (like

Cheerios) or any other small objects, to practice

joining and separating sets. Tell your child to place

a certain number of objects on the mat, then have

them add or take away a certain number. Finally,

have them tell you how many in all or how many

are left. For example: “Put 2 fish on the whale and

3 on the treasure chest. Now, move them into the

ocean and count how many in all.”

Pre-Writing/Fine

Motor

Practice Writing

strokes

•Put a small amount of flour on a cookie sheet. Have

your child practice writing strokes using their index

finger. Practice: touch, pull down; touch, push over;

touch, up and around - making lines and circles in

the flour with their index finger.
